Kataib Hezbollah propaganda expert turns on brother; both detained
BAGHDAD Coalition forces captured two suspected propaganda experts affiliated with Kataib Hezbollah during operations in the Mansour district of Baghdad Wednesday morning.
Acting on intelligence information, Coalition forces tracked down a suspected propaganda expert for Kataib Hezbollah. The individual is suspected of assisting the group with uploading videos of attacks against Iraqi and Coalition forces to websites.
Coalition forces entered what was assessed as the suspects residence. When the suspect identified himself to forces, his wife affirmed that he was the wanted individual. At the residence, forces found weapons and numerous pieces of computer equipment, including a laptop which had been most recently used to access a video sharing web site. This is how Coalition forces believe the propaganda videos are uploaded.
After questioning the suspect, he revealed the location of another propaganda expert wanted by Coalition forces, who happened to be the captured individuals brother. The captured man showed Coalition forces to his brothers house, which was in the same neighborhood. Forces moved in and detained that second suspect without incident.

Coalition forces catch nine Kataib Hezbollah suspects in Adhamiyah
BAGHDAD Coalition forces captured nine suspects believed to be associated with Kataib Hezbollah during multiple operations in the Adhamiyah area of Baghdad Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Intelligence sources led Coalition forces to the location of a suspected Kataib Hezbollah associate believed to be in control of at least one terrorist cell operating in the southern Iraqi city of Basrah. According to information from suspects already in custody, he is believed to be involved in smuggling weapons and fighters across the Iraq-Iran border. Coalition forces approached the targeted individuals location where he identified himself to forces as the wanted suspect. He was then detained along with three associates without incident.
In a separate operation in Adhamiyah, Coalition forces targeted the location of a man believed to be associated with improvised rocket assisted mortar attacks. Coalition forces entered the targeted individuals location where they detained him and two associates. In addition, forces found weapons, as well as electronics equipment believed to be used in the manufacture of IRAMs.
In a third operation near Adhamiyah, Coalition forces pursued a suspected propaganda expert for Kataib Hezbollah. Coalition forces detained the wanted man and one other suspect without incident. During questioning on-scene, the man admitted to designing websites for Kataib Hezbollah in order for the group to publicize their IRAM attacks on Iraqi and Coalition forces.
While Kataib Hezbollah is not part of Special Groups, it is similar in that its reported they receive support from Iran in the way of funding, logistics, and weapons such as improvised rocket assisted mortars. They are also believed to receive guidance or direction from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force.

Islamist Forum Member Proposes Poisoning Water Systems of Major European Cities
No. 2021 - August 12, 2008
On August 9, 2008 a member of the Islamist forum Al-Boraq proposed poisoning the water systems of major European cities. The forum member began his message by reminding “monotheists [i.e. Muslims] who yearn to support the Prophet” that Ramadan is coming, and explained that poisoning the water systems of major European cities is just one of many options some of them “more powerful and more damaging” but that his posting is meant to “prompt the mind [to generate] innovative [ideas].”

TERRORISM FOCUS
“Jihadis React to Indictment of Sudans Omar al-Bashir”
By Abdul Hameed Bakier
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Reacting to the International Criminal Courts (ICC) indictment of Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir, several jihadi internet forums discussed Sudans situation in response to a posting entitled Goodbye Omar al-Bashir and Wake Up Sleeping Cells (al-ekhlaas.net July, 20). Other assessments of Omar al-Bashirs reign in Sudan were found at hanein.info (July 24).”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The jihadis believe Africathe Sudan, in particularis a familiar and fertile environment for al-Qaedas recruiting, training, and jihadist activities due to the wide, uncontrollable areas of Sudan and al-Qaedas previous presence there in the 1990s. If the coup they anticipate in Khartoum becomes reality, the jihadis expect al-Qaeda operatives to flock into Sudan and insert themselves into the Darfur conflict, to fight the long term war against the Crusaders urged by Bin Laden in 2006 (al-Jazeera, April 23, 2006).”

Bush Outlines Humanitarian, Diplomatic Intervention in Georgia
By John J. Kruzel
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Aug. 13, 2008 The U.S. military will head humanitarian relief operations in Georgia, President Bush said today. A C-17 aircraft already has been deployed to deliver the first round of supplies.
And in the days ahead, we will use U.S. aircraft as well as naval forces to deliver humanitarian and medical supplies, Bush added during a White House news conference today following meetings with his national security team.
Bush called on Russia to honor its commitment to allow all forms of humanitarian assistance to enter and to ensure that all lines of communication and transport — seaports, airports, roads and airspace — remain open for the delivery of assistance and for civilian transit.
Meanwhile, the president is dispatching Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to France, where she is slated to meet with Frances President Nicholas Sarkozy, who, as current president of the European Union, is leading negotiations to broker a peace agreement.
Bush reiterated the United States support of the democratically elected government of Georgia, saying the U.S. insists that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia be respected.
Bush expressed concerns that Russia is continuing attacks on Georgia despite a ceasefire pledge by Moscow. During todays briefing, he laid out U.S. plans for humanitarian and diplomatic intervention in the former Soviet republic.
Reports detailing ongoing Russian aggression in Georgia contradict Russias claim that it has ceased military operations there, Bush said at the White House.
Russia has also stated that it has halted military operations and agreed to a provisional cease-fire, Bush said. Unfortunately, we’re receiving reports of Russian actions that are inconsistent with these statements.
We expect Russia to meet its commitment to cease all military activities in Georgia, and we expect all Russian forces who have entered Georgia in recent days to withdraw from that country, he added.
According to reports, Bush said, Russian units have taken up positions on the east side of the city of Gori, which allows them to block the east-west highway, divide the country and threaten the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.
Information further indicates that Russian forces have entered and taken positions in the port city of Poti, that armored vehicles are blocking access to the port, and that Russia is destroying Georgian vessels.
We’re concerned about reports that Georgian citizens of all ethnic origins are not being protected, Bush said. All forces, including Russian forces, have an obligation to protect innocent civilians from attack.
Echoing his previous remarks, Bush said Russia’s actions have damaged the country’s standing with the U.S., Europe and other nations, and raise serious questions about its intentions in Georgia and the region. He added that the U.S. and the world expect Russia to honor their commitment to refrain from deposing Georgia’s democratic government.
“To begin to repair the damage to its relations with the United States, Europe and other nations, and to begin restoring its place in the world, Russia must keep its word and act to end this crisis,” he said today.
Now in the sixth day of conflict, fighting that began last week in the breakaway Georgian region of South Ossetia broadened to include Russian attacks on Abkhazia, another heavily separatist region, among other parts of the country.
