Woman ‘Admits Trying To Blow Up Chinese Jet’
The Telegraph (U.K.) ^ | March 28, 2008 | By Richard Spencer
Posted on 03/28/2008 7:04:31 PM PDT by JACKRUSSELL
(BEIJING) - A 19-year-old woman has allegedly confessed to a “terror plot” aimed at an aircraft flying from the Muslim west of China to the capital Beijing.
State media said the girl, named for the first time as Guzalinur Turdi, was trying to cause a fire above the wing.
She had injected two drinks cans with petrol, which she had placed in the waste-paper bin in the toilet, when she was spotted by an air stewardess.
The revelation of the “terror attack” was made during the National People’s Congress, or parliament session, in Beijing this month by senior officials from the region of Xinjiang, which is inhabited by members of the mainly Muslim Uighur ethnic group.
A long history of dissent and calls for autonomy has occasionally erupted into violence, though there have been no major reported terror attacks since the 1990s.
At the same time as the aircraft attack was foiled, the provincial Communist Party secretary also alleged that a Muslim terror group based in the region was plotting to attack the Olympics, though he did not say what evidence he had.
Exile groups who oppose Chinese rule have alleged that both incidents were fabricated by the authorities to discredit them.
Previously state media have reported that Turdi was travelling on a Pakistani passport with a male companion, who was also arrested, as was a third man not on the plane who was said to be the “terrorist mastermind”.
Thanks Joe. I hope Germany and all of Europe can thwart any pending attacks.
CODY, Wyo. - An improvised bomb was found at a highway pullout near Ten Sleep. Wyoming Department of Transportation employees found the improvised device Wednesday afternoon and the Highway Patrol called in Cody police officer Jake Sullenger to handle it.
According to patrol Capt. Ed Peterson, Sullenger disarmed the device without detonating it. Sullenger reported that the bomb consisted of several layers of explosive powder, a fuse, ball bearings and nails. Patrol officials say they're investigating.
It's the fourth time in the last six weeks that the Cody police have been called out to get rid of explosive devices in the Big Horn Basin.

Agents with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have arrested 41 truck drivers and their associates in the Laredo area in connection with the smuggling of 376 illegal aliens into the United States.
The arrests started at the beginning of February and took place over a 7-week period.
Most of the aliens were found hiding inside several tractor trailers. Agents with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Border Patrol contacted ICE after they noticed suspicious activity coming from inside the trailers or were alerted by on-site dogs on duty.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “In January, Dotson pleaded guilty to making a bomb threat. He admitted to walking into the Wells Fargo building on 299 S. Main on July 17, 2007, and asking to speak to the manager.
Dotson said he told the manager he was interested in opening an account and was led into the manager’s office where he told the manager he had 5 pounds of explosives in his backpack and to call 911. He ordered the manager to clear the building.
Eventually Dotson surrendered to police, and a bomb squad detonated his backpack, only to find out his threats were a hoax.”

“Radical Muslim terrorist released from prison early to ease overcrowding”
By Philip Johnston, Home Affairs Editor
Last Updated: 1:12am GMT 29/03/2008
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A radical Muslim cleric jailed for terrorist offences has been released early under a controversial Government scheme to ease prison overcrowding, the Daily Telegraph has learned.
Drop-out is jailed for missile blueprints
In pictures: Yassin Nassari’s terror blueprints
Yassin Nassari, 29, was jailed for three and half years last July for possessing material that would be useful to terrorists.
Nassari was freed from Wakefield prison last month
He was caught trying to smuggle blueprints showing how to build a missile into Britain but was cleared of a more serious charge of possessing articles for terrorist purposes.
Nassari was freed from Wakefield prison last month under the ‘end of custody licence scheme which allows inmates to leave jail up to 18 days before the half-way point of their term.
It was brought in as an emergency measure to ease pressures on the system caused by a record rise in the number of prisoners to more than 80,000.
Figures to be released on Monday will show that more than 20,000 offenders have been released early since the scheme came into effect last summer.
However, Nassari is believed to be the first sentenced to terrorist-related crimes to benefit.”

“Terrorist releases prompt U-turn”
By Dominic Casciani
BBC News home affairs reporter
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Ministers have changed a controversial early release scheme after admitting two terrorism convicts were let out of jail early to ease prison overcrowding.
The justice ministry said that people convicted under terrorism laws would no longer be eligible for early release.
Yassin Nassari left Wakefield Prison in February after being jailed last summer for three and a half years.
The BBC understands the second man was Abdul Muneem Patel, released from Glen Parva prison on 7 January this year.
Nassari, 28, from Ealing in west London, was arrested in May 2006 at Luton Airport carrying what police said were blueprints for a rocket in his luggage. He was convicted in July 2007 of having articles of use to terrorists.
Abdul Muneem Patel: Jailed over explosives manual
Scotland Yard detectives had arrested him after he arrived on a flight from Amsterdam. They found a computer hard-drive in his luggage including documents about martyrdom and weapons training.
They also found a blueprint for a home-made Qassam rocket, used by Palestinian militants to target Israel.
Experts told his trial the blueprint was detailed enough to manufacture a rocket. Detectives also linked Nassari to extremist websites and chatrooms.
Patel, of east London, was jailed for six months at the Old Bailey in October 2007 after a jury found him guilty of having a terrorism-related explosives manual. The judge said there was no reasonable excuse to have the manual - but added the teenager was not a “radicalised or politicised Islamist”.”

Coalition targets al-Qaeda financial and suicide bombing networks; two terrorists killed, 17 suspects detained
BAGHDAD Coalition forces killed two terrorists and detained 17 suspects during operations today targeting al-Qaeda in Iraq elements in central and northern parts of the country.
Using intelligence gained from an operation Mar. 18, Coalition forces targeted an al-Qaeda in Iraq or AQI financial manager in Tuz Khurmatu. One man at the target building refused to comply with the ground forces instructions and surrender. Perceiving hostile intent, Coalition forces engaged the man, killing him. In the same area, an armed man barricaded himself in a building and engaged the ground force with small-arms fire. Coalition forces returned fire in self-defense, killing the armed terrorist. Six suspects were detained during the operation.
In a related operation in Tuz Khurmatu, Iraqi and Coalition forces caught a suspected leader in a suicide bombing cell. The individual was allegedly planning attacks on Sons of Iraq groups near Baqouba.
In Baghdad, Coalition forces conducted two precision operations, capturing a suspected car bomber and an individual allegedly tied to AQI senior leaders.
Coalition forces north of Bayji captured a suspected terrorist who allegedly coordinates and conducts bombing attacks. Intelligence reports indicate he and his associates are responsible for attacks in the Bayji and Sharqat areas.
Coalition forces continued to target associates of AQI senior leaders in Mosul, detaining seven suspected terrorists during coordinated operations in the city.
Al-Qaeda in Iraqs indiscriminate violence is turning away even its most sympathetic former supporters, said Maj. Winfield Danielson, MNF-I spokesman. With the help of local citizens, Iraqi and Coalition forces will continue to locate and dismantle the terrorist networks through operations like these, improving security for all Iraqis.

Press Release A080328a

Coalition targets terrorist leaders, propaganda network; eight killed, 17 detained
BAGHDAD Coalition forces targeted al-Qaeda in Iraq operatives and leaders Thursday, killing eight terrorists and detaining 17 suspects during ground operations and an air strike in northern Iraq.
Intelligence confirmed the location of a targeted individual reported to be the al-Qaeda in Iraq or AQI leader of a local village operating in a remote area of the Hamrin Mountains southwest of Tuz. The targeted individual and six other armed men were observed conducting suspicious activities in the area. Supporting fixed-wing aircraft were called to conduct an air strike, which killed all seven terrorists.
Coalition forces continued to target the AQI propaganda network, after intelligence reports led a Coalition ground force to a building west of Samarra. When the ground force requested that occupants exit the targeted building, two men exited the building, but refused to follow Coalition forces instructions and demonstrated hostile intent. Subsequently, coalition forces engaged one man, killing him. The other man then complied and was detained with nine additional suspected terrorists.
Two operations in the Mosul area targeted associates of AQI leaders. A precision operation in the city yielded the capture of a suspected terrorist believed to be associated with AQI senior leaders in the area. Southwest of Mosul, Coalition forces detained six suspected terrorists during an operation targeting associates of AQI senior leaders.
A tough fight remains ahead, but Iraqi and Coalition forces are on the offensive, capturing or killing al-Qaeda in Iraq leaders and members before they are able to conduct their brutal attacks against innocent Iraqis and the security forces that protect them, said Maj. Winfield Danielson, MNF-I spokesman.
