Rather is my least favorite person on the planet. I dislike bin Laden and Basayev more. Oh, and Saddam.

From Hugh Hewitt
Ben Barnes-a friend of, major contributor to
and Nantucket neighbor of Senator Kerry's
and vice chair of the Kerry Campaign--
will repudiate his statement under oath that he had no contact with the Bush family concerning the President's National Guard service. (Anyone surprised that Barnes would contradict a statement he made under oath probably doesn't know his long history of political scandal and financial misdealings.)

Why, it's all a coincidence, don't 'ya know? The Boston Globe article published yesterday, the 60 Minutes 2 piece last night, the "Texans for Truth" today. It was just a matter of how the planets lined up.
No media coordination indeed...

The Kerry campaign is obviously breaking the 'no collusion campaign finance law', let's nail them.

I liked the part of the one memo that said "He seems to talking to someone upstairs." Stephanopoulus took this as proof he was applying pressure. I took it to mean he was praying about it.

If he admits he lied under oath how can we believe anything he says now? Ohhh... one of those "Questions That Must Not Be Asked."

Actually, I did not know that the lt. governor had any authority over the TX National and State Guards. They are technically under the governor's authority, aren't they?

The first lottery was drawn in December 1969.

I did not watch this. But I intend to email, as many have, my sentiments about this program and the horrific lack of balance CBS in engaged in regarding this campaign and their news releases in general.
Wonder if anyone remembers the national advertisers on '60 Minutes'. I would like to send the email to not only the CEO of CBS, the show and Dan Rather, but to some of the advertisers of the program....always good to let the names appear on the address column, lets the powers that be understand the depth of one's disgust.
So if anyone remembers the advertising suckers for this piece of crap show, please post um-many thanks!

I graduated from college in 1971. After graduation from school, if you were male and medically fit you had three choices. 1. Enlist in the branch of service of your choice. 2. Stand for the draft. 3 If you were wealthy and/or had the proper connections you could enter the Guard. Those were the facts of life. Either your memory is bad or you are a troll. The first draft lottery was held on 12/1/69 for men born 1/1/44 - 12/31/50. This would determine who would be called up in 1970. Unless you graduated college at age 20 or less, this would include you. The last men called up had #195. Starting in 1970, your draft chances depended on your lottery number. The last people drafted were from 1972, born in 1952, #95 or lower. Before 1970, you would have been subject to the draft, but I presume you had a student deferment. Even if you didn't, the local boards generally went by a oldest man first rule, starting with the 26 year olds.

I was trying to summarize the way things worked in 1971 without going into the details of the draft. FYI I graduated in 1971 at the age of 19.

Well, it was spot on...and you had the gumption at the time to call it square.
Events have, and will continue to (IMHO), prove it exactly right.
