Pinellas Pasco Judge Greer set October 15, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. for her feeding tube to be removed. There's something wrong with Florida's exit protocols and the way the courts handle new information re: criminality (misrepresentation, attempted murder, etc.) affecting a case. There was no living will, only the assertion of a very suspect, so-called husband, his brother, etc. that Terri would not want to live on life support. Terri is not on life support, she is not comatose or PVS and she is not living "artificially". She does get sustenance from a feeding tube but only because she has been denied rehabilitation by her so-called husband after he won a malpratice lawsuit three years after her collapse (cause unknown but probably due to strangulation or physical abuse, or both) which is why Terri needs an army of supporters to spread her story from coast to coast. Terri has retained rights that are being sidestepped because she is disabled and has been denied rehabilitation! The technologies of rehabilitation have greatly improved exponentially yet Judge Greer has not let Terri have a chance to learn to eat or to be able to learn to speak/communicate again. Also new information bearing on the case which shows criminality on husband's side has not been considered by the 2nd District Court of Appeals who handed down Mandate for termination of Terri's feeding based upon testimony of criminal husband and brother as above stated. Who is next?

If we cannot be alongside the Schlinders, can we comfort another? If our heart aches because there are those bent on proclaiming death, can we pray that those deadly hearts be changed? If we don't know what to do, will You show us the way?

You promise us wisdom if we ask for it ... You promise to be with us always ... You tell us that everything should come before You, in prayer and supplication ... You tell us that You will grant unto us peace that passes all understanding. We claim these promises, Lord ... and we continue to come before You on behalf of Terri ... we're coming again and again before the judge, asking that he relent and grant her life. Use this time, and use these efforts as an example of what can be done when Your people are awakened ... grant victory, in the name of Jesus, I pray ...

Lord, there has been fasting and prayer, and there has been sickness and deepest despair because of the cruelty of those outside of Christ ... anoint anew those of broken hearts, that they might rise up, refreshed and renewed, to continue uttering the names of the helpless before the Throne of Grace. Sprinkle our days with an awareness of your blessings ... intermingle them with our heartaches, that we might know that You are with us in the midst of all ... please, Jesus, make it so ... Amen ...

I actually really liked that article. True, she doesn't voice a vehement opinion on the side of life, but perhaps she (shockers!!) was attempting to be balanced. Thanks for posting it. ;-)

I didn't mean that how it sounded, and I'm having a very difficult day so I'm not really sure how to fix it. Here goes:

I didn't mean it to sound harsh. I would love to have read a very pro-life, pro-Terri story. For some in the media, that would not be possible -- I'm just thinking that she was making an attempt to be 'balanced'. All-in-all, though, I truly felt it was a pro-Schindlers article.

I know, I'm probably rambling. Like I said, I'm having a very difficult day...and anticipating more. Prayers would be appreciated.

First of all, the Order does not "order" [Are you infering I wrote that? Post # please.] AG Crist to get involved. It only states that the constitutionality of the Florida statutes has been called into question by this new pleading, and that the state "will be permitted to intervene in this proceeding..." This is something that the judge has to do, a formality, if you will. He has to notify the Attorney General's office, but the AG is not required to do ANYTHING.[True, but at what price?]

Remember that issues of constitutionality are ultimately decided by federal courts, not by Florida's attorney general, [....and how do you suppose they come to a conclusion...through the filings from opposing counsel, of course.] and the final arbiter is the U.S. Supreme Court [...provided one of the parties files a brief with the Supreme Court, AND the court chooses to hear the matter. They are not obliged to hear any appeals filed with them.].

Have you considered the possibility that he might do NOTHING, and wait to see what the judge does? [An option he would not want to waste, and guranteed to tick-off the taxpayers of the Death 'r Us state if he does!]

When you speak of the "function AG Crist will/must play to defend the dastardly statutes enacted by the Death 'r Us state" , are you not assuming that he WILL defend the Florida statutes? [Yes. The stakes are to high not to do otherwise.] Where is there any indication that he will defend these statues? [Applying logic to an illogical circumstance is on the edge, isn't it.] The Order only tells him to let the court know by Oct. 6 " WHETHER (my emphasis) the State of Florida will intervene in this case and participate in all future proceedings."

As to people playing "games", I don't know about you, but I sense that the other people on this thread are just doing their level best to help, so please chill out a bit. [Good. Just as have since the first Terri thread was started some four or five threads (seems like years) ago.]

Not only am I having trouble physically. (Remember my encounter with spider-man? It was definitely a brown recluse, and I'm going to have what doc called today 'a hole in my leg' -- he put me on 500 mg. Keflex TID! There's a possibility I'll need some work done on it if the Keflex doesn't do the trick.)

I'm also so tired from being the 'mother hen' to some very needy (not only financially) friends who tend to lay their burdens with me...not to mention worried about our future and the culture of death. Other stuff too. So, indeed, thanks for your prayers.

I'll probably be on a good bit tonight. Add to my current list - insomnia! I'm not usually a whiner, but I'm worn out right now.

I know the pro-diers ignore all logic. But I wish they could see that, if they choose to see her body as an empty shell, then they should agree she is not suffering while being kept alive.

Compelling argument, but there is a plausible counter which should be dealt with: in some religions, it is believed that the soul is stuck in the body until the body is cremated or otherwise destroyed (the exact requirements vary by religion). In accordance with such a belief, someone can be quite thoroughly biologically dead, and therefore quite certainly not biologically suffering, and yet their soul would be languishing on earth until such time as their body is cremated.

I have no reason to believe that either Mr. or Mrs. Schiavo held such a belief, but such a belief would seem to significantly undermine the argument you gave.

Evil is trying to invade this thread, people. I'm serious. And this is only the tip of the iceberg. The middle is the part actively trying to kill Terri. We are only witnessing the tip.
Pray, by all means...for Terri, for us, and for love to win......but don't fall into some kind of co-dependent weirdness. Especially the women on this thread.

I meant to tell you earlier that I appreciate your link to the Florida Law website. It was quite interesting to link forward past FAQ to the statutes themselves. After reading through the ones that were mentioned in the 2nd Amended Complaint (Federal), I have to say that I think Pat Anderson and the other attorneys are doing a nice job pointing out the specific statutes that have been "overlooked", shall we say. Very informative, although from my novice eyes, it does look like there could be several places where the law seems to "contradict" itself. I imagine it makes more sense to others who are more knowledgeable than myself.

I think you are quite right about that! Satan likes nothing better than to dishearten those who are trying to do the right thing. After being on these threads for the last couple of weeks, I seriously give God thanks for surrounding the Schindlers with people who cared enough about them and Terri, that surely encouraged them to continue fighting for Terri's right, not only to live, but to be treated with dignity and respect. God bless the Schindlers, and the Freepers as well!
