“Britain’s 200-year jihad”
September 27, 2005
“Britain’s 200-year jihad”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The book makes clear that this assault upon the British people (and upon Europeans and Americans who were similarly seized) was a jihad. The Sally Rovers, writes Milton, were called al-ghuzat— the term once used for the soldiers who fought with the Prophet — and were hailed as religious warriors engaged in a holy war against the infidel Christians who were pressurised to convert to Islam under threat of hideous punishment. What is even more striking was the response of the British crown. For almost two centuries, it made only the most ineffectual attempts to rescue its enslaved subjects. Those who had succumbed to the torture and inhumanity of the Sultan and converted to Islam were deemed to be no longer British and therefore outside the scope of any rescue. The pleas of Pellows parents were simply brushed aside. Popular outrage forced successive Kings to dispatch a series of feeble emissaries to try to get the Sultan to end this vile traffic and release the slaves, all to no avail.
But this went on for virtually two centuries. For almost 200 years the British state either sat on its hands or wrung them impotently while the Islamic jihad seized, enslaved and butchered its people. And then it appears, this staggering onslaught was all but airbrushed out of our history.
Food for disquieting thought.”

“ANGOLA - GIRL DECAPITATED IN ATTACK BY MUSLIM EXTREMISTS”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Muslim extremists recently attacked the Christian community in the town of Andulo. In an horrific incident, the school-age daughter of a deacon at one of the churches was decapitated. Forty believers were assaulted or tortured, and one of them needed 20 stitches in his head. The mob burned three church buildings. They also went to believers houses to intimidate them and damaged or destroyed items of property. Stones were thrown at the headquarters of a local Christian project, causing some damage.
Commenting to Barnabas Fund, an Angolan Christian leader said that the local police were unable to stop the attack and fled the scene, and the government seems reluctant to take action against Muslims, perhaps because it believes that Muslim aid is valuable to the nation. The community in Andulo is confused and disturbed, not least because they had believed what the Muslims told them: that Islam is a peaceful religion and that Muslims and Christians are brothers and sisters, worshipping the same God.”

“A Hidden Grain of Truth that Should Resonate”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “In an interview that he gave just before his death, and which was published afterward, Mughniyah was quoted as saying the following:
The Americans are making up stories about me and hold me responsible for a lot of attacks against them that happened around the world, he told Ibrahim al-Amine of Lebanons Al-Akhbar. Sometimes they think of me as if I have the key to the universe. It is difficult for them to understand that I am part of an institution that patiently plans and designs its moves.
Yes, that is what is particularly difficult for U.S. policy makers to understand.
The several billion dollars of promised Iranian investment in Latin America, the careful cultivation of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela, the outreach to Bolivia, whose president, Evo Morales, arrived in Tehran yesterday, the opening of embassies across a region where it has no historical and few commercial ties, is not just a random desire by Iran to spend money.
There is a carefully thought-out plan, visible in the intelligence training Iran is offering, the banks opening in Venezuela to bypass international sanctions, and promises (often empty) of massive aid.
It is easier to personalize a problem and demonize an individual than it is to try to look for the broader, and more dangerous issues in terrorism and other security-related topics.”

Venezuelan military build up
BBC Caribbean ^ | 11 Aug 2008 | Sir Ronald Sanders
Posted on August 12, 2008 8:33:43 PM PDT by davidlachnicht
The bizarre remarks and actions of the Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez continue to concern anyone who is interested in the peace and security of the Caribbean region.
Chavez has recently purchased $4 billion worth of military equipment from Russia, including 24 Sukhoi combat aircraft with missiles, Main battle tanks, transport aircraft, air defence systems and Kalashnikov AK automatic assault rifles.
This latest purchase follows a 2005-2006 agreement with Russia to buy over 50 combat helicopters, 12 Tor-M1state-of-the-art defence anti-aircraft and anti-ballistic missile systems and 100,000 Kalashnikov rifles.
Having purchased all this heavy-duty weaponry, Chavez boasted that his air force could sink the US Fourth Fleet which was recently deployed in the Caribbean reportedly on drug-interdiction duty.
He added that the Sukhoi aircraft has a considerably longer range than the US Lockheed MartinF-16 Fighting Falcons.
And he went on: “Any gringo ship that sails into brown waters (Venezuelan waters) will itself turn brown and go to the bottom, because they’ll not get through.”

Venezuela, Iran to loan Bolivia 225 mln dlrs for cement firm: official
LA PAZ (AFP) - Venezuela and Iran are to loan Bolivia 225 million dollars to create a state cement company for the construction of roads and houses, the deputy minister for small and medium business, Eduardo Peinado, said Saturday.
The deal was made between Bolivian President Evo Morales, Venezuelan ambassador Julio Montes Prado and an Iranian business official Hojjatollah Soltani, he said.
Bolivia, South America’s poorest nation, has formed strong ties with Venezuela under Morales.
The Bolivian leader has modelled socialist reforms in his country’s after those of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez,

SYDNEY Australia on Sunday warned of a "high risk" of terror attacks on domestic and international flights in and to the United States, urging citizens to be vigilant while in the country. "We advise you to exercise caution and monitor developments that might affect your safety in the United States because of the risk of terrorism," the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said in a travel advisory.
The department urged travellers to monitor the media for information about possible new security threats. "The United States Department of Homeland Security's Advisory System Threat Level is at Orange for all domestic and international flights, indicating a 'high' risk of terrorist attack," it said. "It is at Yellow or 'elevated' for all other sectors, indicating a significant risk of terrorist attack."

Taliban in Pakistan rejects offer for Ramadan truce
Monday, September 01, 2008
Pakistani Taliban will continue attacks during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, rejecting a government announcement it would halt military actions in the northwest, a Taliban spokesman said Sunday. Violence has surged in Pakistan in recent weeks with the military battling Al-Qaeda- and Taliban-linked fighters in three different parts of the northwest.
The militants have responded with suicide and remotely detonated bomb attacks on the security forces and civilian targets. Deteriorating security has coincided with a faltering economy and political upheaval as the resignation of President Pervez Musharraf on August 18 was followed a week later by a split in the ruling coalition. "It's a joke. It isn't a matter of holy or unholy. All months are holy. If they want to end fighting, it should be permanent," Muslim Khan, Taliban spokesman in the Swat Valley, told Reuters.
"We want Sharia laws enforced and will continue our struggle. We haven't got instructions from our top leadership to stop fighting. If they do [order a halt] then we certainly will."

ISLAMABAD - Pakistani security forces missed a chance to catch al Qaeda second in command Ayman al Zawahri, the government's senior Interior Ministry official said on Monday. Zawahri and al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden have been in hiding since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States and are both believed to be in ethnic Pashtun tribal lands that straddle northwest Pakistan's border with Afghanistan.
Rehman Malik did not say when security forces had missed the chance to catch Zawahri or give any more detail about the incident. He also did not say where bin Laden might be. Malik told a news conference Zawahri was moving between Pakistan's tribal areas and the eastern Afghan provinces of Kunar and Paktia. "We certainly had traced him at one place, but we missed the chance. So he's moving in Mohmand and, of course, sometimes in Kunar, mostly in Kunar and Paktia," he said.
Mohmand is one of seven Pakistani tribal regions where Malik said both Zawahri and his wife had been. Malik said Pakistani Taliban were working hand in glove with al Qaeda, providing them with shelter and acting as their mouthpiece. "They have not only connections, I would say Tehrik-e-Taliban is an extension of al Qaeda," he said, referring to a Pakistani Taliban umbrella group which authorities blame for a string of bomb attacks over the past year that have killed hundreds of people.

Pakistan: Banks directed to freeze Taliban accounts
1 Sept. 2008
Karachi - Pakistan's central bank has directed the country's commercial banks to freeze the bank accounts of one of the country's most violent militant groups, the Tehrik-e-Taliban. The State Bank of Pakistan spokesman, Syed Wasimuddin said that directives had been issued for the closure of all the accounts of the Tehrik-e-Taliban from Monday.
Under the move, no amount can be deposited or withdrawn from their accounts. The government moved against the Tehrik-e-Taliban movement after it claimed responsibility for several terrorist attacks, including the devastating bomb attack that killed at least 70 people and injured many others at a Pakistani arms factory in August.
According to the Pakistani network, GeoTV, the bank has also directed commercial banks to provide all the details of these bank accounts - deposits, names of account holders, postal addresses and telephone numbers. The bank's action follows a directive from the federal government to clamp down on the organisation.

“Homeland Security Advisory System
Current Threat Level”
PRESS RELEASE SNIPPET: “September 1, 2008 The United States government’s national threat level is Elevated, or Yellow.
The U.S. threat level is High, or Orange, for all domestic and international flights. Only small amounts of liquids, aerosols and gels are allowed in carry-on baggage. See the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Web site for up-to-date information on items permitted and prohibited on airlines.
There is no credible, specific intelligence suggesting an imminent threat to the homeland at this time. Still, we are closely assessing potential threats and response planning leading into and following the electoral process in 2008 to 2009. Heightened coordination and planning among intelligence community and law enforcement partners is being undertaken solely out of an abundance of caution, and focuses on preventive and preparedness measures for the transition period between administrations.
Recommended Activities
All Americans should continue to be vigilant, take notice of their surroundings, and report suspicious items or activities to local authorities immediately.
Everyone should establish an emergency preparedness kit and emergency plan for themselves and their family, and stay informed about what to do during an emergency.”
Algiers - Algeria is deploying extra security forces amid fears that Al-Qaeda is planning a wave of suicide attacks against police stations and foreign targets during the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
Foreign embassies in the capital, Algiers, have asked employees not to venture outside central areas of the city during Ramadan, to avoid being caught up in any such attack, according to the daily, Ech-Chourouk. Areas believed to be at high risk of suicide attacks are poor neighbourhoods in south Algiers, where most suicide bombers are reportedly recruited.

Wanted: Living terror legend
3/31/08
One of world's most wanted terrorists, author of al-Qaeda bomb-making manual, is only known by photo of his hands. International intelligence community believes man responsible for killing, maiming hundreds of people was born in Palestinian territories .
"I know this bomb from somewhere," mumbled the intelligence expert studying recent photos from a Damascus blast. After racking his brain and going through some files trying to remember where he had seen a combination of explosives rigged to gas tanks, it finally hit him it was the trademark of Saif al-Din ("Sword of the Faith") one of the world's most notorious and wanted terrorists to date.
In September of 2006, an al-Qaeda affiliated terror group attempted to carry out an attack on the US Embassy in Damascus. The footage taken of the intended scene included photos of the mass explosive device, which was placed in the most structurally-vulnerable point of the building; waiting to bring it down on its inhabitants. The footage left no room for error the device was one of the explosives developed for al-Qaeda by Saif al-Din. It was the vigilance of the Syrian and American security guards that prevented a catastrophe, saving dozens of lives, if not more.
Saif al-Din has been the focus of a worldwide manhunt for the past two years, with dismal results. The international intelligence community doesn't even know what he looks like and all they have to go on is a picture of his hands. In a world that allows one to run his whole life through an online browser, essentially never leaving the house, one cannot be too surprised that the man responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American soldiers stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan is little more than a virtual character in cyberspace.

“Senior al Qaeda operative killed in Somalia”
By BILL ROGGIOSeptember 1, 2008 4:41 PM
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Al Qaeda has reported one of its senior operatives in eastern Africa was killed during fighting in Somalia more than one year ago. Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan, a senior al Qaeda operative in eastern Africa, announced the death of Abu Talha al Sudani while discussing the May 1 airstrike that killed Aden Hashi Ayro, the leader of Shabab in Somalia.
“And before him [Ayro], more than a year ago, our leader was martyred, the leader of the mujahideen in Somalia, Abu Talha al Sudani, while he was leading one of the battalions of the mujahideen, according to a translation provided by Nick Grace. And this is the first time that we make it public.” Grace monitors al Qaeda and other jihadi forums.
The disclosure was made in a tape released last night on jihadi Internet forums by As Sahab, al Qaedas propaganda arm, Grace told The Long War Journal.”

“’Creepy’: Six Middle Eastern men take multiple photos of 2010 G8 Summit site”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “HUNTSVILLE, ONT. ‘Creepy.” That is how just-turned-14-year-old Dara Howell describes her experience earlier this month on a beach directly opposite the Muskoka resort site that will host the 2010 G8 Economic Summit.
The Howell family is into a third generation of running popular Pow Wow Point Lodge, which sits on a small bay on Peninsula Lake across from sprawling Deerhurst Resort, where two years from now the soon-to-be-decided president of the United States will gather with the political heads of Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Germany, Japan and, of course, Canada.
If you want a good view of Deerhurst, you can’t do better than Pow Wow.
On Friday, Aug. 8, a vehicle pulled into the Pow Wow parking lot and discharged six men, all dressed in what the locals would call “city clothes” - including dark slacks and leather-soled dress shoes.
Without bothering to check with the office, they went down to the beach and began taking photographs of each other, each time with Deerhurst - including the cupola that rides over the main building - in the background.
“All I can say,” says Doug Howell, Dara’s father and the current lodge owner, “is that it was strange. So out of character for Pow Wow. And believe me, we get a lot here.”
Stereotyping happens easily in Cottage Country, where city slickers are instantly recognized, locals are often patronized and heritage carries its usual, if politically incorrect, clichés. The lodge caters heavily to German tourists, so punctuality and organized activity play large at Pow Wow, as do tales of convoys of Japanese tourists coming in the fall to photograph a single maple that turns a particular shade of red.
These six English-speaking men appeared to be of Middle-Eastern origin. But what really set them apart was their complete unfamiliarity with a beach. It was not only their unlikely dress, but a sense that they were “faking” play in order to pose for photographs.
Told this wasn’t a public beach, the men asked if it was all right if they just “hung out” for a while. Told they’d need to take a room in order to stay, they asked for a single room - one bed - and paid by credit card. The six men - one very young, the others in their 30s and 40s - returned to their “play,” at one point attempting to paddle a towing tube around the docks.
They asked to be taken out on the lodge’s pontoon boat, which is usually used for the evening “Moonlight Cruise.” Dara Howell, who happened to be at the waterfront, checked and was told if they paid for the gas she could. She was caught off guard when only one of the men boarded.
Unsure what to do, she continued on. The man asked that she encircle completely the point on which Deerhurst lies and, at each opening, take a photograph of him, with Deerhurst always in the background. “It was creepy,” she says. “He wanted pictures from all the way around - and always two pictures. It was weird.” At 5 p.m. it began to rain. By 5:30 the men had packed back into their vehicle and left, room and bed untouched.”
You are welcome Cindy and thank you for bringing it here.
I am glad that Calpernia made a thread of it, as we all followed it from the beginning.
