BEIRUT (Reuters)
Intelligence indeed. Suprisingly, news out this morning indicates that the Israelis have been successful in blunting Hamas' recent rocket offensive in Gaza. With no place to run and a laser designator on their heads, Hamas leadership seems to have been able to get a control on rocket attacks, which totaled 2 rockets for the weekend. There is a 'truce' rumored, probably from Hamas' side, but with the decrease in rocket attacks, the IDF has reduced their selective operations in Gaza. How long Hamas will be able to keep the thumbs off the trigger is uncertain.

Study Finds Traces of Drugs in Drinking Water in 24 Major U.S. Regions
Monday, March 10, 2008
A vast array of pharmaceuticals including antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones have been found in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans, an Associated Press investigation shows.
To be sure, the concentrations of these pharmaceuticals are tiny, measured in quantities of parts per billion or trillion, far below the levels of a medical dose. Also, utilities insist their water is safe.
But the presence of so many prescription drugs and over-the-counter medicines like acetaminophen and ibuprofen in so much of our drinking water is heightening worries among scientists of long-term consequences to human health.
In the course of a five-month inquiry, the AP discovered that drugs have been detected in the drinking water supplies of 24 major metropolitan areas from Southern California to Northern New Jersey, from Detroit to Louisville, Ky.
Water providers rarely disclose results of pharmaceutical screenings, unless pressed, the AP found. For example, the head of a group representing major California suppliers said the public “doesn’t know how to interpret the information” and might be unduly alarmed.
How do the drugs get into the water?
People take pills. Their bodies absorb some of the medication, but the rest of it passes through and is flushed down the toilet. The wastewater is treated before it is discharged into reservoirs, rivers or lakes. Then, some of the water is cleansed again at drinking water treatment plants and piped to consumers. But most treatments do not remove all drug residue.

Sources: Spitzer to Resign Following Reports of ‘Involvement’ With Prostitution Ring, Faces Indictment
Monday, March 10, 2008
New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer has been indicted and is expected to resign from office following news reports that he was linked to a high-profile prostitution ring, sources told FOX News Monday.
Spitzer scheduled an abrupt announcement from his office as news reports were breaking that the governor told staffers about his involvement.
Spitzer, who was especially tough on corporate crime as New York attorney general, told his staff Monday that he was involved in the ring, according to The New York Times’ Web site, citing an anonymous administration official. No further details regarding his involvement were immediately available.
Just last week, four arrests were made in connection to the high-profile prostitution ring known as the Emperors Club that served big-dollar clients.
The Times reports that a source with knowledge of the governors role believes the governor is one of the men identified as clients in court papers in the prostitution ring.

Al Qaeda Online Supporters Lash Out at Taliban for Not Remaining Loyal to the Global Jihad
Monday, March 10, 2008
CAIRO, Egypt Al Qaeda supporters on the Web have unleashed an unprecedented flood of criticism of Afghanistan’s Taliban, once seen by extremists as the model of an Islamic state.
Now extremists accuse the Taliban of straying from the path of global jihad after its leader Mullah Omar issued a statement saying he seeks good relations with the world and even sympathizes with Shiite Iran.
In February, the Taliban announced it wanted to maintain good and “legitimate” relations with neighboring countries. Then, last week online militants were outraged when the movement expressed solidarity with Iran, condemning the latest round of sanctions imposed on Tehran by the U.N. Security Council over its nuclear enrichment.
The Shiite Islamic state of Iran is viewed as anathema by the Sunni militants of the Al Qaeda and other extremist movements.
“This is the worst statement I have ever read ... the disaster of defending the (Iranian) regime is on par with the Crusaders in Afghanistan and Iraq,” wrote poster Miskeen, whose name translates literally as “the wretched” and who is labeled as one of the more influential writers on an Al Qaeda linked Web site.
While anyone with a password can comment on these militant Islamist forums, the Al Qaeda-linked forum moderators single out certain individuals as particularly important. It’s not clear, however, whether the resentment among Al Qaeda supporters reflects a rift between the Taliban and Al Qaeda’s leadership.
The Taliban hosted Osama bin Laden until the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 toppled the movement, and since then the Taliban and Al Qaeda are believed to have worked closely in the Afghan-Pakistan border area.
“The Taliban seeks to be a respected political movement that can at the same time govern Afghanistan and be at limited peace with its neighbors,” said Rita Katz, the director of the Washington-based SITE Intelligence Group which monitors militant Web traffic.
But she cautioned that the “Taliban’s surprising call to support Iran in the face of new U.N. sanctions does not mean that the group is suddenly offering unequivocal support to Iran,” though it shows readiness to coexist with the neighbor.

“NATIONAL SECURITY AT THE BORDER”
by Robert Spencer
(February 19, 2008)
It’s just a lull in the storm. (opinion)
Yes, client no. 9 was apparently caught on a wire tap.
Makes you wonder what the names of clients 1-8 are.
This is important because activity like Client no. 9 was alleged to be involved with can make him a possible target for blackmail. His chances of blackmail of course are about nil now since this is breaking in the public domain.

“Targeting Mosuls kidnappers”
By BILL ROGGIOMarch 10, 2008 7:54 AM
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “MOSUL, IRAQ: As al Qaeda and allied extremist groups attempt to regroup in the northern city of Mosul, kidnappings inside the city have spiked in the past week. Six Iraqis have been kidnapped in the last six days. The latest victim was a Muslim sheikh.
The most high-profile kidnapping over the past two weeks targeted the leader of the Christian community in Mosul. Archbishop Paulos Faraj Rahho, the Chaldean Archbishop of Mosul, was kidnapped during what Iraqi officers in Mosul described as a professional operation. Three cars pulled up as Rahho left mass, killed his three man security detail, and put him into the trunk of a car.
His captors were led by a former Syrian colonel and a former lieutenant colonel in the old Iraqi Republican Guard, said Colonel Hage Alzebari, the 2nd Iraqi Army Divisions intelligence officer during a briefing given to the staff of the 4th Brigade, 2nd Iraqi Army Division at Forward Operating Base Lion.
The kidnappings increase as funding for the insurgency begins to dry up, Major Eric Vickery, the operations officer for the 4/2 Military Transition Team said. Kidnappings provide al Qaeda and the insurgency a simple solution to fundraising. High-profile community leaders, businessmen, or members of wealthy families are targeted by terrorists because it is believed their families will pay the large ransoms. The families often do.”
