Dogs align themselves with Earth’s magnetic field when it comes time to poop
UPI ^

Dogs have been found to be sensitive to Earth's magnetic field, and apparently align themselves along the magnetic north-south axis before they defecate. Czech and German researchers studied 70 dogs during 1,893 defecations and 5,582 urinations over the course of two years, and found that when the Earth's magnetic field was stable the dogs chose to align themselves with it. When it was unstable, such as during a solar flare, the dogs would become confused.

Really, now?

It’s winter in Wisconsin - lots of snow & sub-zero temps. My short-legged Basset Hound pooped IN THE POLE BARN today, to get OUT of said weather.

Pretty sure the magnetic pole had NOTHING to do with that, LOL!

If you get lost in the wilderness just watch your dog poop?

“I thought they automatically aligned it with an expensive rug.”

OMG! How true! LOL!

My dogs apparently aren’t that smart. They crap wherever they feel like it.

It's a little yapping dog. Perfect for experimentation.

“German researchers studied 70 dogs during 1,893 defecations....”

That could be the best line ever written in the history of news.

And usually take their sweet time looking for, "The Perfect Poop Zone," when it's raining or bitterly cold.

When it was unstable, such as during a solar flare, the dogs would become confused.

Too much gnawing on barbecued chicken bones will cause them to be confused all over the carpets and floors.

Useless perhaps, but an interesting way to assess if dogs have vestiges of an internal navigation system based on electromagnetic fields along the line of what birds have.

If the experiment results in the subject assuming room temperature, Obama would appreciate delivery of said subject to the service entrance of the White Mosque.

“Cats automatically align all vomiting with soft, expensive floorings and furniture. If they feel the need to puke, they will race across yards and yards of hardwood floor or stone tile to reach the soft expensive persian rug and then heave.”

LOL!

Of course they do, but which direction do they point in?

sounds like graduate research is getting a bit easier (since Dr. Pittendrigh invited me to sex fruit flies for him....

(you inspect each fly and put all the males together in one big beaker, sort of like an orgy in San Francisco)

My dog points in random directions, I guess the magnetic field moves a lot.
