Thought this definitely deserved a mention - the U.S. Army is looking at using virtual worlds to provide social therapy and smooth the adjustment process for amputee soldiers. If it helps them build a community and adjust to their new environment, I say it's worth it.

David Borden Jr. was wounded in Iraq on January 19, 2008. A suicide bomber rushed him and detonated, and Borden was hit by over 200 pieces of shrapnel. He lost right leg (below the knee) and his left arm was severely damaged. He was in a coma for over a month. He's inspired more than a few people while recovering. The NY Giants football team reports that he's the grandson of a NY Giant. According to the email below from his father, David Borden (Sr.), David Jr. had an uninspiring visit from the President of the United States: Since Dave...

Save This If you just voted for Obama by 11/13/08 You'll need this reminder IF YOUR DEMOCRAT WITH A CONSERVATIVE BENT ISN'T IT TIME TO SEND A MESSAGE ? YOU WANT CHANGE IN YOUR PARTY Face it ! The present Democratic party is not the party of your father's father. Its been taken over ever so slowly by radicals who are bent on destroying traditions and traditional cultural values and will circle the wagons once corruption gets revealed. The Waxman congressional Circus investigations for example will bring up "big business" but never associates of "big government". Would your father knowingly vote...

Little-Known Event Is Emotional Salute; Cpl. Lyon Pays a Visit. Cpl. Kenny Lyon's mother pushed his wheelchair down a narrow Pentagon hallway, crying as she listened to the applause. Hundreds of Defense Department employees lined the corridor, cheering for Cpl. Lyon and the other wounded military personnel who walked or rolled past. Some of them patted Cpl. Lyon on the shoulder, while others shook his hand or leaned in to hug his mother, Gigi Windsor. "I was really humbled by it because I didn't do anything special," says Cpl. Lyon, a 22-year-old Marine who lost a leg in a mortar...

All too often all we get are the bad stories about this war on terror from our Mainstream Media. Not only that but we only hear about our allies when they are quitting their support for US led efforts to combat terror in the world and never when they are in support or do something to help the effort. So, I suppose it isn't beyond belief that we never heard this heartwarming story anywhere in the US Media. For the last two years, Fran O'Brien's Steak house in Washington D.C. has treated our wounded servicemen from Walter Reed Army Medical...

WASHINGTON — Cpl. Jemel Daniels was a gunner on patrol with his unit in Iskandere, Iraq (search), when his Humvee hit a makeshift bomb on the side of the road. "I shot out of the turret 30 feet into the air and fell into a ditch on the side of the road. My friends dragged me across the road. Just two of us actually got out and three passed away," the corporal said. Daniels works out hard without appearing to give much thought now to his injuries — an amputated left leg, a battered arm and a shattered right foot...

Politicians – read this before self-destructing Posted: January 13, 2004 1:00 a.m. Eastern © 2004 David H. Hackworth The recycled Pentagon types now merrily selling their "expertise" to the weapon-makers and the rest of the current crop of shakers and takers who make up today's military-industrial-congressional greed machine are as usual sucking up big bucks, while many of our vets continue to get the shaft. Also as usual. Wesley Clark summed up what's going down in a recent campaign speech: "We've got veterans' hospitals closing; we've got people who have to drive six hours to get a checkup; we've got...
