Over the past week, Wisconsin public employees have flocked to Madison to protest Gov. Scott Walker’s budget-repair bill. Teachers have walked out of their classrooms, senators have fled the state, and President Obama has once again involved himself in state affairs. The left is painting the bill into an attack on the middle class, education, and unions. Some are even comparing the protests to the citizen-lead protests in Egypt. Before such inaccuracies have a chance to continue, let’s set a few things straight.Walker, who was swept into office during the 2010 midterm elections, is confronting the tough decisions right away....

In early April of 2010, Michelle Litjens, the chairwoman of the Winnebago Republican Party, found some local guy that was thinking of running for the U.S. Senate. She brought him down to a meeting of a handful of conservative operatives in Madison. He didn’t even know he was supposed to speak at this meeting, and patched together a few talking points in the car on the way down. When Litjens introduced businessman Ron Johnson to the group, people rolled their eyes and checked their watches as he ambled through his reasons for running. There were already a few people thinking...

Sean Duffy reports via video on his first day in Congress. The entire freshman class of Republican/conservative/Tea Party congress critters have their work cut out for them! God help them make the right decisions to get this country back on track with the vision of the Founding Fathers!

AMONG the many firsts in the 2010 elections, it is safe to assume that the following words had never before been uttered about a future member of Congress, “This is a candidate who is probably best known for getting drunk and having sex on television.” The comment, made by the chairman of the Wisconsin Democratic Party, was lobbed at Sean Duffy, who overcame his bawdy past as a star on MTV’s “Real World: Boston” in 1997 to ride a wave of conservative discontent into office. Some of Mr. Duffy’s youthful indiscretions that were captured on film and dredged up by...

After a decisive win in Tuesday’s Republican Primary, businessman Ron Johnson now holds a seven-point lead over incumbent Democrat Russ Feingold in Wisconsin’s U.S. Senate race. The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Johnson picking up 51% support, while Feingold earns the vote from 44%. One percent (1%) of voters prefer some other candidate, and four percent (4%) remain undecided. However, the race is still considered a Toss-Up in the Rasmussen Reports Senate Balance of Power rankings. The survey was conducted one night after Johnson’s primary victory in which he received 85% of the vote in...

Wisconsin's Senate primary is still two days away but the presumptive nominees are already playing their designated general election roles. Republican Ron Johnson is running a hard hitting ad that accurately depicts Senator Russ Feingold (D-Wisconsin) as a career politician and Senator Feingold's campaign is whining on their candidate's behalf.

With the gubernatorial election looming, the candidates are sparring over their many differences. One of the main issues that has evolved over the past month between two candidates, Mayor Tom Barrett and Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker, has been the proposed high-speed rail service. This would connect the already-existing Chicago-to-Milwaukee route with Madison and, eventually, the Twin Cities. Walker is concerned about the price tag and feels that the money would be better spent on infrastructure, such as roads and bridges. Barrett feels that high-speed rail is the future, and he is right. With booming population growth, it is mystifying...

Democratic incumbent Russ Feingold and his chief Republican challenger Ron Johnson remain locked in a neck-and-neck battle for the U.S. Senate in Wisconsin. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Wisconsin finds Johnson with 47% support, while the Democrat earns 46% of the vote. Two percent (2%) like some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided. This is the third straight month with Feingold attracting 46% of the vote and all three months have shown a close race. A month ago, Johnson had 45%. Two months ago, Johnson was at 44%. Feingold was...

Businessman Ron Johnson, endorsed at last weekend’s state Republican Convention, is now running virtually even against incumbent Democrat Russ Feingold in Wisconsin’s race for the U.S. Senate. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Wisconsin shows Feingold with 46% support to Johnson’s 44%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and six percent (6%) remain undecided. As he has in surveys since the beginning of the year, Feingold continues to fall just short of 50% regardless of which Republican he’s matched against. Incumbents who earn less than 50% of the vote at this stage of a campaign...

WASHINGTON – Rep. David Obey, a leading liberal Democrat and chairman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, intends to retire at the end of his term this year, Democratic sources said Wednesday. It is another blow to Democrats defending their majority in an election season of voter discontent. Obey, 71, won the first of 21 terms in 1969 from Wisconsin — when a special election was held after President Richard Nixon tapped Melvin Laird to be his defense secretary. He faced a potentially bruising re-election campaign this fall.

"A source close to former state commerce secretary Dick Leinenkugel told WKOW27 News Leinenkugel plans to announce his run for the U.S. Senate next week[Monday]. After Leinenkugel resigned his position with the Doyle administration earlier this month, it was widely reported the former beer executive was bolting his association with the democratic governor to don republican clothing and challenge incumbent democratic senator Russ Feingold. ... Leinenkugel’s expected entry into the race will come two weeks after former long-time republican governor Tommy Thompson ended speculation over his political future by announcing to a tea party throng in Madison his family wanted...

U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wisconsin, responded to former Gov. Tommy Thompson’s potential run for Senate Tuesday in an e-mail to supporters. “It’s very likely that former Bush administration HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson will enter the Republican primary to run against me in November,” Feingold said in the message. On March 7, former Thompson aid Bill McCoshen said Thompson has been considering a campaign for the seat. “I wouldn’t expect to see an announcement from him until the Republican convention on May 20th,” McCoshen said on “Up Front with Mike Gousha.” “But you’re going to see additional evidence shortly that this...

Five Wisconsin residents, including two who worked for community organizing group ACORN, were charged Monday with election fraud relating to the 2008 presidential election. State Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced felony charges against Maria Miles, Kevin Clancy, Michael Henderson, Herbert Gunka and Suzanne Gunka. Miles and Clancy worked for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now and are accused of submitting multiple voter registration applications for the same individuals, including each other, to meet voter registration quotes imposed by the community organizing group. Henderson is charged with one count of voting by a disqualified person and providing false...

Five Wisconsin residents have been charged with criminal counts of voter fraud in the November 2008 general election, state Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced today. Two of those charged, Maria Miles and Kevin Clancy, are workers for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), the embattled community group. "The complaint alleges that Miles and Clancy submitted multiple voter registration applications for the same individuals, and also were part of a scheme in which they and other (special registration deputies) registered each other to vote multiple times in order to meet voter registration quotas imposed by ACORN," Van...

Will he or won’t he? This question usually indicates one of two things around these parts: Either it is the NFL offseason or we are approaching an election of some sort. Brett Favre and former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson could easily be cousins. Both have been transplanted only to become Wisconsin golden boys. Both have retired, but both have had to consider whether they are happy with that status several times. Both can “still play.” Perhaps most significantly at this point, both are holding their respective organizations in suspense while they ponder their futures. Tommy Thompson has reportedly been considering...

Wisconsin incumbent Democrat Russ Feingold leads his two best-known announced Republican challengers for the U.S. Senate in the latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in the state. Feingold leads real estate entrepreneur Terrence Wall 47% to 39%. Just six percent (6%) would choose some other candidate given that match-up, while seven percent (7%) are undecided. Against another potential GOP opponent, businessman Dave Westlake, Feingold currently holds a 47% to 37% lead but again fails to receive 50% support. Six percent (6%) like another candidate, and 10% are undecided. Any incumbent who attracts less than 50% support at this...
