It sounds as though Americans need to send the Feingold campaign a huge box of “industrial strength” Huggies.

Wisconsin's Senate primary is still two days away but the presumptive nominees are already playing their designated general election roles. Republican Ron Johnson is running a hard hitting ad that accurately depicts Senator Russ Feingold (D-Wisconsin) as a career politician and Senator Feingold's campaign is whining on their candidate's behalf.

campaign is crying foul over the statement that "Russ Feingold is a career politician, has never worked anywhere outside of politics." In a letter to the Johnson campaign asking that the ad be pulled, the senator's campaign manager George Aldrich wrote that Mr. Feingold worked for his family's title and abstract business as a young man, worked his way through college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and worked for two different law firms between his law school graduation in 1979 and his first term in the Wisconsin State Senate in 1983.

Johnson campaign spokeswoman Sara Sendek responded with a statement that read in part, "Senator Feingold did practice as a lawyer for two firms for a short period of time, but both of those firms are involved in political work. He has spent 28 of 30 years as a politician - more than enough time to accurately describe that as a career. Two years as a highly paid lawyer a quarter of a century ago hardly constitutes any sort of real world experience with a business or creating jobs."

With the latest polls showing the race as a statistical dead heat in an election season that's not looking good for career politicians of the Democratic persuasion, it's understandable why Senator Feingold would want to portray himself as something else. Unfortunately for him, the Johnson campaign will continue to remind voters that the senator is "in the Reid/Pelosi/Obama camp." Not coincidentally that's also in the ad the Feingold campaign wants pulled.

Now that, my friends, is a beat down.

Hope you’re right. Next trick will be to get rid of the Dairy Queen, and may I be the first to suggest Rep. Paul Ryan would be an excellent replacement!

Remember about 10 years ago when Russ Darrow ran against Feingold, and called himself “The Right Russ”? Loved that line. Time for The Wrong Russ to go.

Remember McCain-Feingold? The press thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread—and one of the reasons why Republicans voted against McCain in 2000 in favor of Bush was because of it.....then Bush sold us out by signing it into law......

I remember writing to William Safire and argued that McCain-Feingold was of benefit to certain special interest groups:

1) incumbent politicians
2)Political parties. and
3) The press, by giving them more power as kingmakers and powerbrokers...and where the money will flow.....

Safire answered my concerns in a column in which he asked “What’s wrong with the press having MORE power? That’s a GOOD thing!”

And now everybody who supported McCain-Feingold is complaining about Fox News and Glen Beck and Sean Hannity, ie “those whose rings must be kissed”.....

I told you so.....
