When (Republican) Wehby was first asked (before the primary)about the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, she said she was not familiar enough with the bill to take a stand on it. Oregon Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley is running neck-and-neck with Republican challenger Monica Wehby, according to a new Daily Caller/Vox Populi Polling survey of registered voters in the state. Wehby, a Portland-based pediatric neurosurgeon, received the support of 40 percent of respondents, while an additional five percent say they are leaning towards supporting the first-time candidate. It's not often that a candidate for U.S. Senate takes the stage after performing brain surgery. So it wasn't surprising that pediatric neurosurgeon Monica Wehby was greeted with awe at a recent GOP campaign event in King City. "Dr. Wehby did two cranials this morning," says moderator Billie Reynolds, beaming at the candidate running for the seat held by Democrat Jeff Merkley. "We're fortunate to have someone with her gifts willing to put herself on the line for politics." Wehby is used to such welcomes from Republicans in Oregon as well as Washington, D.C., who think she just might have...

As expected, the race for the 2014 GOP nomination to oppose Democratic incumbent U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley is shaping up as a two-way battle between a moderate GOP Establishment-backed candidate and a grass roots candidate relying almost exclusively on individual Oregonians for support. . . Wehby reported total receipts of $501,353, compared to Conger’s $213,102. A closer examination of each campaign’s report shows Wehby is relying heavily on out-of-state contributors and D.C. lobby PAC’s, while 95% of Conger’s money came from individual Oregonians. Of Wehby’s reported half million dollars in receipts, some $216,630 or 43% were out-of-state contributions. In fact,...
