As expected, the race for the 2014 GOP nomination to oppose Democratic incumbent U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley is shaping up as a two-way battle between a moderate GOP Establishment-backed candidate and a grass roots candidate relying almost exclusively on individual Oregonians for support. . .
Wehby reported total receipts of $501,353, compared to Congers $213,102. A closer examination of each campaigns report shows Wehby is relying heavily on out-of-state contributors and D.C. lobby PACs, while 95% of Congers money came from individual Oregonians. Of Wehbys reported half million dollars in receipts, some $216,630 or 43% were out-of-state contributions. In fact, Wehbys out-of-state fund-raising exceeded Congers $204,000 raised in state from Oregon individuals.
Wehby reported $47,892.07 in PAC contributions, all of which were out of state, with most originating in the D.C.-Arlington, VA area home to the GOP Establishment lobby so often reviled by Tea Party activists.

Needs Oregon ping
With Caliph Baraq at +12 last time (down from +16 in 2008), is there hope for an R candidate of any type?
A massive mega-RINO, but what else do we have in Oregon? Our bench is terrible. Wehby won’t win, but if she makes dems worry about Merkley’s seat, better for us.
Oregon is blue-you take what you can get. No one is saying you should give the Rino your $$$. Take this issue to Texas for starters and then follow up in Ky. We have BIGGER fish to fry elsewhere.
Just sent an email to my daughter and her husband in Or to Vote Conger
So, you’re saying you’ll be voting for the RINO who has raised 60+% of his money from out of state, rather than the “grass roots candidate relying almost exclusively on individual Oregonians for support”.
Thank you for telling us where you stand.
May your chains hurt TWICE as much as those you choose to impose on your fellow citizens.
This is why you should NEVER give one penny to the national GOPe organizations.
The current Senator Merkley road in on Obama’s coat tale in 2008. Merkely is so out of touch he’s still endorsing Obummercare. He is basically Nevada’s third senator, playing to every whim of Harry Reid. Oregon elects Democrats due to gerrymandering. Prior to the gerrymandering of 2000, Oregon Republicans controlled the House and were tied in the Senate.
I don’t live in Oregon. The point is, Merkley is about as vulnerable as Mark Warner in Virginia. I doubt he’s going to be brought down by anyone, this doctor included unless there is an extremely low turnout, and I’d rather put my money into very winnable races like Michigan, North Carolina, and Alaska, than throw it at Oregon.
Look at it this way. If Karl Rove and friends shell out huge donations to Wehby in Oregon, that’s less money for them to give to Tillis or Kingston.
I’m not talking about voting for anyone, just that from a money standpoint, this may benefit us in various ways in terms of the national effort.
I originally thought he was vulnerable, but with how much Obama swung Oregon last time, it may be just out of reach at this point. How is Democrat organization in the state? However, a little like the attempt to liquidate Barbara Boxer back in 2010, we can hope that this drains Democrat resources.

Did you know the Democrat party voted to remove any reference to God at their 2012 national convention ? And when they decided it was a mistake and unpolitical they rammed the change to put it back in like they voted for Obamacare. But delegates booed the decision. The Democrat is not the party of JFK or even FDR. It’s a queer hyphenated marriage between socialists and “progressives” They are now Demo-Coms.

There is no gerrymandering involved in senatorial and gubernatorial elections. They are statewide. Of course Portland, Salem and Eugene will swing it Democrat.
I’ve seen one debate now with all the candidates - & one without Wehby. While Wehby definitely seems RINOish, Conger has his drawbacks, too. He voted for Cover Oregon when he could’ve abstained or voted no. He does comes from a conservative area that has higher Dem registration, but there’s something definitely off-putting about him.
I’m really torn about who to vote for. Mark Callahan & JoRae Perkins don’t have a chance. But I’m just not happy with either Conger or Wehby. sigh...

Planned Parenthood Blasts Dr Monica Wehby's Anti-Abortion Guest---Sen Tom Coburn
WILLAMETTE WEEK NEWS, March 13th, 2014, By AARON MESH
Dr. Monica Wehby, a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, and a pediatric neurosurgeon, is catching ire for inviting an anti-abortion Senator (Coburn is a pro-life doctor) to speak at her Oregon fundraising events.
Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon demanded today that Wehby "sever ties" with U.S. Senator Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma). "Monica Wehby should sever ties with Senator Coburn immediately and tell Oregon voters where she stands on womens health," says Laura Terrill Patten, executive director of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon.
"Does she agree with Senator Coburn that providers of safe and legal abortion should face the death penalty," Patten continues, "and that a survivor of rape should be forced to carry a pregnancy caused by her attacker?"
W/W first reported that Wehby invited Coburn as a special guest to three fundraising eventsincluding a $1,500-a-plate dinner in Portland. Wehby is running in the Republican pimary for U.S. Senate, and is a leading contender to challenge Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Oregon). ####
QUOTING 2008 OBAMA: "No. 1, let me just repeat, if youve got a health care plan that you like, you can keep it. All Im going to do is help you to lower the premiums on it. Youll still have choice of doctor.
Repeated over and over again---with Obama's promise that every American family would be saving $2500.00 on healthcare costs.
Significantly, Obamba NEVER corrected lock-stepping Democrats, all reading from the same Democrat talking points, all of them repeating the same Democrat promises---over and over again.

LOCK-STEPPING PARTY LOYALTY NOT SEEN SINCE 1930-40's ERA EUROPE Obama And the Dems marched in lockstep.....the persistent Dumbocrat drumbeat ---- in obeisance to Obama ---- kept ringing reassuringly in our ears: "If you like your plan, you can keep your plan."
QUOTING SEN. JEFF MERKLEY (D-Oreg): [E]nsuring that those who like their insurance get to keep it The HELP Committee bill sets forward a historic Democrat plan that will, for the first time in American history, give every American access to affordable health coverage, reduce costs, and increase choice, while ensuring that those who like their insurance get to keep it.
