Unfortunately, homelessness is a huge problem in cities like Los Angeles. And there’s no question that the pandemic has only made the crisis worse. For Shacola Thompson, who lives in Van Nuys, the issue has become personal recently. She’s been trying to get a homeless man to leave her porch for weeks but to no avail. As noted by MSN, the man “continues to return and make himself comfortable on her porch.” In addition to the stress of somebody encroaching on her space, Thompson told KTLA, “I don’t feel safe when I come out here and try to enjoy my...

The drug has long been used for treatment of malaria and conditions such as lupus and arthritis but is not technically approved by the FDA for COVID-19. The agency, however, is encouraging trials and has provided limited...

A Los Angeles doctor praised using hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19 during an interview with a local news station on Sunday, claiming that it has a dramatic effect on patients who are seriously ill when combined with zinc. Dr. Anthony Cardillo, CEO of Mend Urgent Care, made the remarks during an interview with ABC 7 news anchor Jory Rand. “What we’re finding clinically with our patients is that it really only works in conjunction with zinc. So the hydroxychloroquine opens the zinc channel, zinc goes into the cell, it then blocks the replication of the cellular machinery,” Cardillo said. “So, it...

With an unofficial slogan of Take the Risk, Try Lutefisk, it's a pretty safe assumption that dining on lutefisk is not your average meal. That's what's printed on the aprons at Sons of Norway, Norrona Lodge No. 50 in Van Nuys, and you can kind of see why. A traditional Scandinavian dish of lye-treated whitefish, lutefisk is found most places where there's a decent-sized Scandinavian population, and it's part of the seasonal table: Thanksgiving to Christmas is considered lutefisk season. Lucky for you, the dish is also available once a year at a lutefisk and meatball community dinner at the...
