Mixed messages from the higher-ups, unclear repercussions for refusal, a disparity in treatment among different states and branches of the military, a range of deadlines, and goalpost-shifting on the meaning of religious exemptions have converged to create mass chaos throughout the military as tens of thousands of yet-unvaccinated service members grapple with the COVID-19 vaccine mandate and many seek exemptions. The Pentagon has promised that these requests for accommodation, which are mostly religious but include some medical, will be considered on a “case-by-case” basis, but that assurance provides no clarity about the military’s subjective process for assessing the sincerity of religious...

All ny daughter (27) works for a local nursing home/assisted living facility. they are forcing the jab, but are offering "religious exemption" options. how has the FReeper community handled these situations? they gave her a form to complete, including a place for a pastor to sign off on it. Today in our Navy SEAL 1 v. Biden case, federal judge Steven Merryday ordered each branch of the military to file a detailed report every 14 days beginning January 7, 2022. The order also stated that the federal executive orders regarding federal employees and civilian contractors expressly require religious exemption. Judge Merryday wrote that the military plaintiffs’ claim that the accommodation process is a ruse are “quite plausible” under the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act because the reports filed by the military branches thus far revealed not one of the 16,643 requests for religious accommodation have been granted and hundreds...

In Kane v. De Blasio, (2d Cir., Nov. 28, 2021), the U.S. 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals held that New York City's COVID vaccine mandate for school teachers and administrators is not facially unconstitutional under the 1st Amendment because it is a neutral law of general applicability. However the court held that the process-- determined by an arbitrator-- for deciding whether a person is entitled to a religious exemption is unconstitutional: The Accommodation Standards allowed employees to request a religious accommodation by submitting a request that is “documented in writing by a religious official (e.g., clergy).”... Requests “shall be denied...

WASHINGTON—The Supreme Court turned down emergency requests by New York healthcare workers for a religious exemption from state requirements to vaccinate against Covid-19. A federal appeals court in New York previously denied the workers’ requests. The court denied the requests in brief written orders. As is typical for such emergency actions, the majority didn’t explain its thinking. Three conservative justices—Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch—said they would have allowed the exemptions. In October, the court denied a similar application from Maine healthcare workers seeking exemption from their state’s vaccination requirements, which lower courts had rejected. The same three conservatives...

WASHINGTON – More than 12,000 military service members refusing the COVID-19 vaccine are seeking religious exemptions, and so far they are having zero success. That total lack of approvals is creating new tensions within the military, even as the vast majority of the armed forces have gotten vaccinated. The services, urgently trying to keep the coronavirus pandemic in check by getting troops vaccinated, are now besieged with exemption requests they are unlikely to approve. Meanwhile, troops claiming religious reasons for avoiding the shots are perplexed because exemptions are theoretically available, yet seem impossible to obtain. Caught in the middle are...

NOTE: there is no evidence from the FDA that any vaccine has FULL approval. The Aug 23, 2021 memo merely clarified who can get the vaccine, and renamed the Pfizer vaccine. Referees and all team and arena personnel who interact with players are required to get vaccinatedOne of the biggest questions heading into the 2021-22 NBA season was if the league would require players to get vaccinated against COVID-19, and on Tuesday we got our answer. The league will not require vaccinations for players, according to Baxter Holmes and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The National Basketball Players Association has reportedly refused to budge from its stance against mandatory shots for players. Furthermore, the league will also not test fully-vaccinated players regularly this season, per Shams Charania of The Athletic. While players...

Service members who want a vaccine exemption will be required to seek counseling regarding their decision.. The Pentagon on Tuesday released guidelines for how service members could request a religious exemption in lieu of getting the coronavirus vaccine. ... "There is a religious exemption possibility for any mandatory vaccine, and there's a process that we go through to counsel the individual both from a medical and from a command perspective about using a religious exemption," Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said Tuesday. Kirby said military service members who wish to seek an exemption will be required to be counseled by...

Medical freedom is not explicitly mentioned in the Bill of Rights for a very simple reason. The founding fathers never envisioned a world in which medical procedures would be forced on a free people. This oversight has been corrected for the most part by laws at the state and national level protecting an American citizen’s right to choose how they will handle their own healthcare. Patients’ rights have been attacked more and more in recent years, but never has there been a more draconian onslaught than what we’re seeing with the so-called “Covid vaccines.” Government, private businesses, and organizations are...
