THE PRESIDENT: Good evening. In the life of all free nations, there come moments that decide the direction of a country and reveal the character of its people.

We are now at such a moment.

In Iraq, an ally of the United States is fighting for its survival. Terrorists and extremists who are at war with us around the world are seeking to topple Iraq’s government, dominate the region, and attack us here at home. If Iraq’s young democracy can turn back these enemies, it will mean a more hopeful Middle East and a more secure America. This ally has placed its trust in the United States. And tonight, our moral and strategic imperatives are one: We must help Iraq defeat those who threaten its future and also threaten ours.

Today, John Leo, Editor of MindingTheCampus.com, hosts Victor Davis Hanson to discuss his most recent article from the summer issue of City Journal, "Why Study War?". Hanson is the Martin and Illie Anderson Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution and a City Journal Contributing Editor. * * * Leo: Welcome Dr. Hanson, your article "Why Study War?," strongly criticizes the academy for its increasing neglect of military history. How do you explain this neglect? Hanson: Mostly for three reasons. First, since the campus revolt against Vietnam, academia has associated war exclusively with amorality, forgetting, for example, that chattel slavery, Nazism,...

I want to open today's speech with a story that begins on a sunny morning, when thousands of Americans were murdered in a surprise attack -- and our nation was propelled into a conflict that would take us to every corner of the globe. The enemy who attacked us despises freedom, and harbors resentment at the slights he believes America and Western nations have inflicted on his people. He fights to establish his rule over an entire region. And over time, he turns to a strategy of suicide attacks destined to create so much carnage that the American people will...

For Immediate ReleaseOffice of the Press SecretaryAugust 18, 2007 President's Radio Address President's Radio Address Audio En Español In Focus: Iraq In recent months, American and Iraqi forces have struck powerful blows against al Qaeda terrorists and violent extremists in Anbar and other provinces. In recent days, our troops and Iraqi allies launched a new offensive called Phantom Strike. Battered Liberal SyndromeAugust 16, 2007 BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: Those of you liberals out there, I know you're out there, and I know you're battered. You are constantly upset. You're angry. The people you've been voting for, when they win, the problems don't go away. You don't have health insurance; you don't have this; you don't have that; destroying the planet, da-da-da. It's just miserable out there. Yet you keep voting for the same people and you end up being miserable. The cycle repeats. It's like Battered Wife Syndrome. This is Battered Liberal Syndrome. KARL ROVE: Well, thanks, Rush. I'm honored you'd ask me and delighted to be with you. RUSH: You haven't probably heard about this, although it won't surprise you, but I've gotta tell you something. THE PRESIDENT: Karl Rove is moving on down the road. I've been talking to Karl for a while about his desire to spend more time with Darby and Andrew. This is a family that has made enormous sacrifices not only for our beloved state of Texas, but for a country we both love. We've been friends for a long time, and we're still going to be friends. I would call Karl Rove a dear friend. We've known each other as youngsters interested in serving our state. We worked together so we could be in a position to serve this country....

In a special session at the YearlyKos convention, Hillary Clinton praised left-wing bloggers and promised she would provide universal internet access, full benefits for same-sex couples and pre-kindergarten that caters to children who don’t speak English if elected President. She began by telling bloggers a secret: “Don’t tell anybody, but I actually read blogs.” “Don’t share that,” she warned. “And, I find myself, you know, sometimes saying, ‘Oh, c’mon’ and sometimes saying ‘Oh, you know that’s a really good point’ and trying to figure out how to work that into an argument I am making or legislation I am drafting.”

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: Let's listen to some of the sound bites from the Republican presidential debate yesterday scheduled by ABC. It was moderated by George "Stephy" Stephanopoulos, and took place someplace in Iowa. David Yepsen of the Des Moines Register was also on the panel. Nobody saw it. Nobody watches Stephanopoulos' show anyway. It's 10:30 on a Sunday morning. If you're going to schedule a debate at 10:30 on a Sunday morning, don't you think it would be best to schedule the Democrats then? If you're ABC and you want an audience, don't you know that the audience for this...

Dear Madam Speaker: I ask the Congress to consider the enclosed revisions to the FY 2008 Budget request for Department of Defense operations in the Global War on Terror. This request would provide the additional resources necessary to maximize the production of Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles and rapidly field this capability to our servicemembers in Iraq and Afghanistan. Overall, the discretionary budget authority in my FY 2008 request for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom would be increased by $5.3 billion, for a Department of Defense total of $147.0 billion for these operations. I hereby designate the specific...

Within a few weeks of becoming prime minister of Great Britain, I have come to the United States to affirm the historic partnership of shared purpose that unites our two countries. Outside observers may think of even great alliances only in narrow, 19th-century terms: treaties of convenience driven forward by nothing more than mutual needs and current interests. Yet I believe our Atlantic partnership is rooted in something far more fundamental and lasting than common interests or even common history: It is anchored in shared ideals that have for two centuries linked the destinies of our two countries. Winston Churchill...
