Good evening fellow Freepers. This post is not one that comes from a newspaper article, but one that comes from ME and it concerns happenings at a midwestern military base. I won't say which one it is because to disclose it openly at this point might do more harm than good, but what's now starting to happen needs to get out there. A meeting was held today. The meeting was scheduled last Friday by base personnel to take place today, they then canceled this meeting on Monday, then rescheduled, again, yesterday for today. No one knew what the meeting was...

    Debates.Org ^ | 22 September 2020 | The Commission on Presidential Debates
Moderator Announces Topics for First Presidential Debate Sept 22, 2020 The first presidential debate will be held on Tuesday, September 29 at Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. The format for the first debate calls for six 15-minute time segments dedicated to topics announced in advance in order to encourage deep discussion of the leading issues facing the country. Chris Wallace, moderator of the first 2020 presidential debate, has selected the topics for that debate. Subject to possible changes because of news developments, the topics for the September 29 debate are as follows, not necessarily to...

Currently, Topics are tied individual Forums, such that the 50 states (but not DC) show up as Topics for a thread posted in or moved to the GOP forum -- but the 50 states (and DC) show up as "US:(state name)" in threads posted in or moved to the News forum. Those state lists don't cross. Same goes for the duplicate Topics found in Chat and Blogger forums -- and those lists are all separate from one another. Keywords are available across all Forums. All three systems should be merged into a Tags system. Currently, the URL (which I still...

Jim Robinson has created and maintains a huge treasure trove of news and information here at FreeRepublic.com. He gladly shares it with us Freepers and the rest of the world (a.k.a. - lurkers). And thanks to Jim and staff, FreeRepublic has a fantastic search engine (far surpassing Google), IMHO, due to the plethora of relevant news and information from around the world posted by us Freepers. For lack of a better description, I would classify FreeRepublic as a huge historical news and information database thanks to all of the postings and comments of Freepers (and a few disrupters - ZOT!!)....

Just a suggestion for the FR powers that be (do we have a suggestion box?): Can another posting section be added below "Title of Thread", such as "description", "subject" or "sub-title"? I have noticed many duplicate postings are due not as much from failure to search, as failure to use original article titles in favor of a more descriptive thread. I think there is a place for both, and currently many posters will put their descriptive/subject text in parentheses after the title. Unfortunately this is not common practice and not defined as proper method although it obviously allows searches to...

President Bush (news - web sites) and his wife, Laura, enter St. John's Church, Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, in Washington. President Bush says voters have ratified his policies in Iraq (news - web sites) by saying 'The American people listened to different assessments made about what was taking place in Iraq, and they looked at the two candidates, and chose me.' (AP Photo/Lawrence Jackson) President George W. Bush (news - web sites) waves as he departs St. John's Church after Sunday services, January 16, 2005 in Washington. A senior White House official said that career employees at the Social...

Time to Follow Kerry’s Lead? By: Christopher G. Adamo At one time, John Kerry wanted to make Vietnam the centerpiece of his campaign, based on his belief that the contrast between his four months of combat and George Bush’s guard service would stand the Massachusetts liberal in good stead with an America immersed in the war on terror. Unfortunately for Kerry, groups such as the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth followed suit, thus bringing forth his overall war record for examination. And what was learned wasn’t pretty. Kerry's “battle wounds” amounted to little more than the degree of “boo-boo” which...

"I can wage a better war on terror than George Bush has." So speaks Senator Kerry in the U.S. presidential campaign's final days, again reminding voters that the key issue in this race remains as it was a year earlier - deciding which candidate will better protect Americans from terrorism. As with so many topics, the basic difference between Kerry and President Bush is one of character, with the challenger repeatedly changing his mind and the president sticking with one position. On occasion, Mr. Kerry adopts Bush-like terminology. For example, in September 2004 he talked about the war on terror being "as...

http://www.chronwatch.com/content/contentDisplay.asp?aid=10146 Debate Score: Bush 1, Kerry 0 Written by Gregory Borse Monday, October 04, 2004 In order for the creeping dynamics of the race for the presidency to change as a result of the first presidential debate, two things had to happen: President Bush had to commit a major gaff and Democratic challenger Senator Kerry had to hit a home run. Neither happened. Still, this first debate offered an opportunity--as a result of the fact that the two participants performed so well--a real contrast between the candidates. For all the harping before the first of the three scheduled debates, about...
  • WHAT IS THERE TO DEBATE?

    INSIGHTMAG.COM ^ | SEPTEMBER 30, 2004 | JB WILLIAMS
What Is There To Debate? Posted September 30, 2004 By J.B. Williams Let's face it, Presidential debates rarely provide any real insight into the hearts and minds of the candidates. Debate rules and guidelines are designed so that handlers can script the appropriate responses in advance, the moderators are never moderates, and consequently, the American people would rather watch their favorite (scripted) realty TV show, which is far more real. We seldom need a debate to know what any sitting President thinks. In Bush's case, does anyone really wonder where he stands on anything? Whether you agree with him or...

While the media likes to tell people what the key topics of this upcoming election are, I'm interested in knowing what the average Freeper thinks. Think of this as an informal poll. What I'll do is keep track of the posting and list the ratings of the issues you feel are most important after a day or so..... Thanks in advance.

Lately, we have been seeing more and more people who are posting articles to every topic, or to many topics which it is a stretch to see as applicable. Please don't do this. You may be thinking that you are giving more visibility to articles that you find important, but in actuality you are making it so that people who read FR by topic have their interests spammed with things of no interest to them, making more work for the moderators (which may lead to more moderators, which may or may not be a good thing), and generally alienating the very...
