Congress has passed a bipartisan bill named after a toddler who died after ingesting a battery. Reese's Law, named for Reese Hamsmith, who died last year at 18 months old, strengthens safety standards for products with button batteries, commonly found in everyday items. U.S. Sens. Marsha Blackburn, a Tennessee Republican, and Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, introduced the legislation nicknamed Reese's Law in the Senate earlier this year. Some time ago I read a funny satirical letter from a fictional father to his son in the military. The letter dragged on and on about how his sister or brother was in jail, his taxes were too high and he was losing his home, somebody else had run afoul of the law, etc. Then he closed the letter by thanking his son for helping the many freedoms he enjoyed. Does anyone else remember that? Do you have a link to it? Thanks!

The indictment was unsealed on Wednesday. The law under which he was charged has been used just...

Codey Signs Bill Requiring Fire Extinguishers in Homes (TRENTON) – Acting Governor Richard J. Codey today signed S-1294 / A-3432, a bill requiring that single-, double- or triple-occupancy homes be equipped with a fire extinguisher upon sale, lease or transfer. State Senator Joseph Coniglio first drafted the bill two years ago, when a fifth-grade student at Cliffside Park School #6 suggested the idea. Senator Coniglio was visiting Mrs. Donna Spoto’s fifth-grade class when the student, Christopher Keethe, raised his hand and asked why every home in New Jersey is not required to have a fire extinguisher. “He went on to...
