Dallas Wings center Li Yueru won't be representing China in the FIBA Women's World Cup due to passport issues. Li announced on social media her passport "was lost in the mail and still hasn't been found" (via the Associated Press' Doug Feinberg). "Throughout this time, we've all been working hard together and exploring every possible solution, but maybe we were just a little short on luck this time," she said. "As of today, the passport is still missing. "Sometimes, disappointment is simply part of life. I'm sad that I won't be able to be there this time, but I'm incredibly...

Sophie Cunningham appeared to be the only player who put her hand over her heart during the national anthem prior to the Indiana Fever's game against the New York Liberty on Saturday. All other players on the Fever stood with their hands behind their backs, as multiple videos and images surfaced on social media, while the Liberty players remained in the locker room during the Star-Spangled Banner. It is unclear why the Liberty players did not come out to the floor to honor the anthem, nor why Cunningham was the only player to put her hand over her heart. The...

Folks, Somehow, the green dildo has returned. If you think back to pretty much a year ago, you'll remember that there was an onslaught of green dildos being thrown onto WNBA courts mid-game. It was stopping the action every time. The craze then spread to the NFL where fans were throwing the sex toys onto the field, but it didn't really have the same effect. People ran the bit into the ground very quickly and it was no longer funny.

The WNBA is in the middle of the controversial discourse surrounding transgender athletes participating in women’s sports. SNIP The hot-button conversations have given way to a series of demonstrations and stunts, and the latest went down at the Las Vegas Aces game over the weekend. Two men wearing dresses and makeup attended the Aces’ matchup against the Minnesota Lynx on Saturday. The controversy surrounding the WNBA and transgender athletes prompted former NBA players Enes Kanter and Royce White to claim their eligibility for the draft. The unnamed men at the Aces game appear to be following suit.

Where sex is concerned, human reproductive biology is pretty standard: Humans are sexually bipolar, with two sexes, male and female. This is determined genetically at conception; barring a few rare and usually debilitating genetic disorders, an XX chromosome pair results in a female, and an XY pair, a male. That's just how it is. These are facts. And another fact is that the XY pairing gives the resulting child and, in time, adult, a significant advantage in sports. Now, the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) doesn't seem to understand that, especially with regards to "trans-women" - men - playing in...
  • The WNBA is terrified of one word: woman

Who knew a first-grade science question could so thoroughly upend a $5.5 billion enterprise? And yet the WNBA, whose first letter stands for women, can’t seem to shake the media firestorm over the meaning of sex. Now, weeks into what should have been a non-controversy — Sophie Cunningham’s declaration of support for men playing in their own league and not in hers — the leadership of the league is convening an emergency meeting to debate what should be the most obvious data point in the sport: who’s eligible to play in the WNBA.Of course, the league, under the spineless leadership...
