Joe Biden delivered remarks in honor of 'long time friend', 'good man' and former Vice President Walter Frederick 'Fritz' Mondale on Sunday in Minneapolis, Minnesota. 'I served with Fritz a long time. He became a good and close friend,' the president said during his remarks at the Northrop Memorial Auditorium on the University of Minnesota's campus at the memorial service for Mondale, who served as President Jimmy Carter's No. 2 for his single term from 1977-1981. 'I was a kid when I got elected – I wasn't even old enough to be sworn in – I was 29-years-old,' Biden said...

Democrats in both chambers of Congress have long emphasized their $3.5 trillion budget bill’s climate policies as constituting a crucial element of the bill; however, moderate Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W. Va.) remains unconvinced on these, even as Democrats speed toward another legislative deadline at the end of October. For most Democrats in Congress, policies to reduce carbon emissions and to move away from fossil fuels have been a keystone of their policy priorities for months. When Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who drafted the original budget framework, introduced the bill on the Senate floor, he promised an “extremely aggressive … [transformation...

Minnesota A victory in the North Star State would kick a Planned Parenthood vice president from Congress, and have titanic implications for the Senate in 2020. In just four weeks, U.S. Sen. Tina Smith, D-Minn., has seen her staggering 11-point lead in Minnesota completely washed out.The race between the Democratic senator proudly called the “highest ranking planned Parenthood executive in US politics” and an unapologetically conservative former talk radio host, Rep. Jason Lewis, should be turning heads as both a critical race in its own right and a potential sign of much larger changes in the 2020 race.“We are seeing...

Guest Piece by America’s History Teacher, Larry Schweikart Confession: I rarely watch conservative, or so-called conservative, news sites. You can get some information that way, but I find it much more instructive to watch the reactions of liberals to the stories of the day. That is an instant indicator of who is winning and losing. For example, if the Washington Post says “Trump must change tone or face loss,” you know that Trump’s tone is deadly effective. Or, if Politico headlines “Some Senator Say McConnell Moving Too Fast on Barrett Nomination,” you know that Yertle is moving at light speed...

Senator Tina Smith (D-Minn.) is in a statistical dead heat with her GOP challenger Jason Lewis less than two weeks before Election Day, according to a new poll. A SurveyUSA poll released Wednesday shows Smith leading Lewis, a former congressman whose candidacy has been endorsed by President Donald Trump, by only 1 percent. It found that 43 percent of voters favored Smith compared to 42 percent for Lewis. Another 12 percent said they were undecided, while 3 percent said they would vote for a third party candidate. Smith's lead is well within the poll's 5 percent margin of error.

Former Congressman Jason Lewis announced Thursday morning he is running for the U.S. Senate in 2020. Lewis, a Republican who lost his 2018 re-election bid to represent the 2nd Congressional District, will try to unseat Democratic U.S. Sen. Tina Smith. In his announcement, though, he targeted Rep. Ilhan Omar, the Democrat from Minneapolis who has been repeatedly criticized by President Donald Trump, just as much as Smith. “We are at a crossroads in Minnesota and across this country not seen since the chaos and turmoil of the 1960’s,” Lewis said in his announcement. “llhan Omar, with Senator Tina Smith marching...

Two in states won by Clinton and six in states that backed Trump ANALYSIS — The fight for the Senate starts off with only a handful of seats at risk. And that’s being generous. A few other states are worth your attention because of their competitiveness or questions about President Donald Trump’s impact, but almost two-thirds of Senate contests this cycle start as “safe” for the incumbent party and are likely to remain that way. Of course, a retirement or a public scandal could create a contest where one should not exist, and an implosion of the Trump presidency could...

This year’s high-stakes midterm elections are fast approaching, and much ink has been spilled about a surge in women candidates running for office. Unfortunately, most of the hype has focused on only one type of woman: anti-Trump, pro-abortion, and angry about it. What about the millions of women and men who are eager to see more protections for unborn children and their mothers – who revere the Constitution and want more fair, impartial judges like Justice Kavanaugh appointed? Who is running to represent folks who not only decline the pink hats and handmaid outfits, but are happy about the direction...

Karin Housley, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, has officially requested an investigation into the allegations of domestic abuse against Rep. Keith Ellison. Ellison, a Democrat running for attorney general in Minnesota, has been accused by his former girlfriend of physical and emotional abuse throughout the time they dated. Karen Monahan alleged Ellison once dragged her off a bed while shouting profanities and sent multiple abusive text messages. Ellison has vehemently denied the accusations and asked the House Ethics Committee to launch a probe into the allegations. Minnesota’s Democratic Party has also commissioned an investigation. But Housley, the GOP nominee...

Minnesota Sen. Tina Smith (D) holds a 7-point lead over Republican challenger and state Sen. Karin Housley ahead of November's midterms, according to a new poll publishing Monday. The Star Tribune/MPR News Minnesota poll found that Smith, who replaced former Sen. Al Franken (D) following his resignation in January, has the support of 44 percent of likely voters. Another 37 percent support Housley, while 15 percent of those surveyed say they remain undecided, according to the poll. Smith, the former Minnesota lieutenant governor, was tapped to replace Franken after he resigned amid allegations of sexual misconduct. Smith now faces Housley...

Former Sen. Al Franken (D., Minn.) said he hadn't ruled out the possibility of running for public office again during an interview with a CBS Minnesota television station on Monday. Franken attended the dedication of Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig High School on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation. He sat on the Indian Affairs Committee in the U.S. Senate and helped secure $12 million in funding for new facilities to replace the old one, which was in dismal condition. "That means a lot to me. It was very moving for me. It was very gratifying. I put my heart in the job," Franken said....

The highly publicized vote recount in the Minnesota Senate race between Democrat Al Franken and Republican Norm Coleman is shining a light on Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie, the state’s chief election officer. Ritchie is chairman of the Minnesota Canvassing Board, which on Monday certified that Franken received 225 more votes than Coleman did. Ritchie gave partial credit for his 2006 election to a liberal 527 group, the Secretary of State Project, which says its goal is to “ensure fair, clean elections” by replacing conservative secretaries of state with liberal Democrats. “I want to thank the Secretary of State...

A prominent donor to the Democratic Party says she is considering withdrawing support for senators who urged their colleague Al Franken to resign after he was accused of sexual misconduct. The donor, Susie Tompkins Buell, has been one of the Democratic Party’s most generous supporters for decades. In particular, she has been a champion of female politicians, including Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Maria Cantwell of Washington. Last month, those senators were among the dozens who called for Franken to resign from the Senate after at least six women accused him of sexual harassment...

Well, after giving one of the most non-introspective speeches on the Senate floor regarding his sexual harassment allegations, Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) is now a private citizen. The Minnesota Democrat was hit with sexual misconduct allegations around the Thanksgiving holiday last year. He’s been accused of groping multiple women, forcibly kissing one as well. As of today, Stuart Smalley has left the building. ormer Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., is considering running for the recently vacated U.S. Senate seat held by Al Franken. “I’ve had people contact me and urge me to run for that Senate seat,” Bachmann said recently on televangelist Jim Bakker's television show. “And the only reason I would run is for the ability to take these principles into the United States Senate and to be able to advocate for these principles.”
