One week after “Motherless Brooklyn” disappointed the box office, Warner Bros. has yet another flop in the form of “Doctor Sleep.” The Mike Flanagan-directed horror film based on Stephen King’s “The Shining” sequel was tracking for a debut in the $25 million range, but its opening weekend came in well below that mark with a dismal $14 million total. While “Doctor Sleep’s” $50 million production is a saving grace, Deadline reports the film is expected to lose between $20 million and $30 million for Warner Bros. “Doctor Sleep” now joins “The Goldfinch,” “Gemini Man,” and “Terminator: Dark Fate” as one...

An evening palate cleanser to follow up on this post from earlier in the week. There will come a point when these deepfake mindfarks become routine and lose the frisson of wonder which they currently inspire, probably sooner than we think. But not yet. Not today. The deepfake maestro who’s putting these together clearly has found a muse in the Carrey-for-Nicholson swap. This vid’s both better and worse than the one I posted a few days ago. Worse in the sense that the face-mapping isn’t quite as seamless here as it was in the previous clip. There are moments in this...

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something filled with the coagulating blood of one’s enemies. The Trump household apparently wasn’t content turning the White House into a dark alternate dimension where all hope dies for just one year—this house of horrors has now become an annual holiday tradition. The White House has shared an official look at First Lady Melania Trump’s latest holiday decor at the White House. Last year, Mrs. “Be Best” turned the hallways of the presidential residence into a living nightmare straight out of Get Out or Voldemort’s bathroom. Shadowy branches crept over the walls, reaching forth...

ESTES PARK, Colo. — A man visiting the hotel that inspired the Stephen King novel “The Shining” captured a haunting image during a recent stay at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. Henry Yau was taking a panoramic photo of the hotel’s grand stairwell and lobby, according to KPRC. He did not notice anyone walking down the stairs when he took the image, however when he looked at his picture the next day he saw the ghostly figure, according to KUSA.

They reveal how Nicholson, despite his maniacal performance and playboy reputation, acted as a father-figure and mentor for the then 10-year-old girls from London, England. The pair say Nicholson took naps on the floor between scenes to stay in character, talked about missing his daughter Jennifer from his first marriage to Sandra Knight and appeared to be a more devoted family man than his public image ever personified. Lisa, who today is a lawyer and Louise, a published scientist, both 46, also revealed their role in the hit flick did more harm than good to their fledgling acting careers. They...

'Heeere's Johnny!' Nope. It's actually David and Rebecca Wilson. The Wilsons have been living together at the Many Glacier Hotel in Montana since October and taking care of the property during its off-season. Although they don't have a son named Danny, the Wilsons are aware some are comparing their situation to that of Jack and Wendy Torrance in Stephen King and Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. Many Glacier, which is located on the eastern edge of Glacier National Park, welcomes hundreds of thousands of guests each summer before it closes down for the year in September. Now the vacation hotspot has...

A New Orleans man has pleaded not guilty to carjacking a 68-year-old Chalmette woman who was attacked last year in a busy Metairie parking lot. Daryle Guillot, 37, who entered the plea Tuesday during his arraignment, was back in a 24th Judicial District courtroom on Thursday, when attorneys and a judge discussed the case privately. Guillot, whose last address was 516 Marigny St., in the Faubourg Marigny, is accused of assaulting the woman on Nov. 12. She just had her hair cut at a business in the 200 block of Veterans Memorial Boulevard, near the 17th Street Canal, according to...

I've come across some youtube videos and some articles about how intricately made was The Shining, that it is filled with a hotel layout which doesn't make sense. And that there are clues within that supports the idea he filmed a fake moon landing. While I don't believe the lunar excursion was faked I'm convinced that Kubrick gave an awful lot of thought and effort in his movies. Are there any books or videos you might recommend about Kubrick?

Full title: Krauthammer: 'Biden’s Debate Prep Was Watching The Shining' - 'Excellent Imitation of Jack Nicholson' "One would think that Biden’s debate preparation was watching repeatedly 'The Shining,' and I think he did an excellent imitation of Jack Nicholson." So marvelously said syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer on Friday's Special Report on Fox. Kubrick's Psychopaths Society and Human Nature in the Films of Stanley Kubrick © 1990 by Gordon Banks Introduction To the creator of films as well as other forms of literature, the dark side of human nature has often proved more rich and interesting than the bright. Films and books on the lives of saints have not been as popular as murder mysteries and works of horror. While we may have no desire to experience them in our own lives, terrible deeds and evil people exert their perverse attraction on our psyches. We who consider ourselves moral and upright are...
