Dozens of Oakland public school teachers took part in a pro-Palestine teach-in on Wednesday despite a warning from the district that the curriculum was not approved. The "From Gaza to Oakland" teach-in was organized by several members of the Oakland Education Association, who said it was a chance to expose students to diverse viewpoints and teach them about the human tragedy in Gaza. "As a Jewish teacher, this is a very important issue for me," said organizer and substitute teacher Judy Greenspan. While organizers claim that they set out to present both sides, authors of a press release for the teach-in couldn't even feign balance as they noted that fifth-graders from Sequoia Elementary wrote letters to President Bush opposing the war, and invited Bush to their school, where, as one student noted, he could "learn some (conflict resolution) skills."</p>

Numerous UMKC organizations have hosted discussions that speak out against a United States attack on Iraq. An open forum with presenters from the Departments of Political Science and History brought the U.S.-Iraqi situation to light. On a Tuesday afternoon the classroom was packed, with little standing room available. The speakers were hot with anger towards the situation.
