Last Friday, GOP presidential challenger Mitt Romney disclosed his tax returns and health records. In particular, the release of the tax information was a pleasant surprise –released without pre-announcement or fanfare. Romney gave information that dates back to 1990 which ought to close Harry Reid’s mouth for a time .....–it would be absolutely wonderful if the “right” would get such a disclosed-documentary surprise from President Barack Obama. ...What are Americans on the “left” afraid of learning about Obama? Simple curiosity would demand that Obama’s academic records be released –let alone really wanting to know about the past of the man...

LAS VEGAS — Vice President Joe Biden denounced Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney on Tuesday as a candidate with something to hide. Biden, campaigning for President Barack Obama in the battleground of Nevada, told Hispanic leaders that Romney doesn't live up to the openness that his father represented when he ran for president 44 years ago. The vice president said Romney's father, George Romney, released 12 years of tax returns when he unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination in 1968. In excerpts of Biden's remarks released by the Obama campaign, Biden told the annual conference of the national Council of La...

Global Warming has begun to scare me greatly. Not the hocus science or laughable models such as Michael Mann’s “Hockey Stick Curve,” nor the ponderous preponderance of pointless paperwork such as the latest iteration of the IPCC scare documents. After all, both of these documents were obviously prepared by advocates; not legitimate professional scientists. What scares me more has been the reaction of the non-scientific community to this elaborate media campaign. Those who disagree with the basic thesis are referred to as skeptics, or worse heretics. This makes Global Warming scary, whether its wellspring is proven to be anthropogenic, terrestrial...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic U.S. presidential candidate John Edwards on Sunday said that he would raise taxes, chiefly on the wealthy, to pay for expanded healthcare coverage under a plan costing $90 billion to $120 billion a year to be unveiled on Monday. "We'll have to raise taxes. The only way you can pay for a healthcare plan that cost anywhere from $90 to $120 billion is there has to be a revenue source," Edwards said on NBC's Meet the Press news program. The 2004 vice presidential nominee and former North Carolina senator said his plan would "get rid of...

I feel like a chump. This entire past year, Arnold Schwarzenegger had as a central theme to his campaign for re-election the fact that he would oppose any increase in taxes. I think it would be fair to say that this was a central theme to his campaign. As a matter of fact, in a candidacy that often times stressed issues that were not very appealing to core Republican voters, it was his focused contrasting of Phil Angelides' "The Tax Man" against his own rhetoric of opposing new taxes that helped to mollify, and excite the GOP base to support...

<p>In a recent speech at Georgetown University, Howard Dean unveiled his economic plan, calling it "Reclaiming the American Dream." Since its centerpiece is a complete repeal of the Bush tax cuts, the plan amounts to a gigantic tax increase. And let there be no mistake: Mr. Dean's claims to the contrary, "Reclaiming the American Dream" will result in a huge tax increase on child-rearing working families. How ironic it is that one of Mr. Dean's "clear objectives" is to "[r]elieve the crushing burdens on American families." Contrary to the details of his schemes, he also claims his program "will strive for greater tax fairness for middle-class working families."</p>
