A tattooed content creator sparked a debate about hiring biases after being rejected by T.J. Maxx. Experts said tattoos could influence hiring decisions, especially in customer-facing roles. But overall, personality and cultural fit are more important, they said. A TikToker, Ash Putnam, was frustrated after T.J. Maxx denied her application — and she said she thought her tattoos were to blame. Some of her designs that are visible when she's dressed are a skull with horns on her neck, solid black patches on her arms, and a pattern on her forehead. Putnam, 23, also has multiple facial piercings, including a...

A new study has discovered that tattoo inks could be linked to cancer or organ failure. An analysis of 54 inks commonly used in tattoo parlors across America has uncovered that a staggering 45 of them contained unlisted additives, including chemicals known to pose alarming health risks. Multiple inks contained 2-phenoxyethanol, which can cause toxic effects in high doses. Researchers involved in the study found the most common additive to be polyethylene glycol, which is a compound that can cause acute renal failure. The study was led by Jonn Swierk from the Department of Chemistry at Binghamton University, and was...

The multi-hyphenate daughter of Michael Jackson opted to pair her skin-baring Celine gown with an absence of her signature ink. Viewers of the 2024 Grammys might have noticed that Paris Jackson went for a look that exuded a sleek and chic vibe, and in doing so, the actress and singer-songwriter somehow wasn’t sporting one of her signature elements: her ink. Jackson worked with New York-based Cover FX, the vegan and cruelty-free skincare line, to “erase” her 80-plus body tattoos to create a clean look for the Grammys red carpet. Makeup artists Tyson Fountaine and Paul Blanch worked on Jackson’s body...
  • Why Does the Bible Forbid Tattoos?...And have we been misinterpreting Leviticus?

Tattoos have been around for millennia. People got them at least five thousand years ago. Today they’re common everywhere from Maori communities in New Zealand to office parks in Ohio. But in the ancient Middle East, the writers of the Hebrew Bible forbade tattooing. Per Leviticus 19:28, “You shall not make gashes in your flesh for the dead, or incise any marks on yourselves.” Historically, scholars have often understood this as a warning against pagan practices of mourning. But language scholar John Huehnergard and ancient-Israel expert Harold Liebowitz argue that tattooing was understood differently in ancient times. Huehnergard and Liebowitz...

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is a big fan of expressing himself through his tattoos. The 30-year-old has debuted tattoos in the past and recently decided to add to his collection. It was revealed on Friday morning that Prescott chose to be sedated for 11 hours to finish his leg tattoo. The new artwork on his leg features Daffy Duck doing the quarterback's touchdown celebration. The skyline of the city of Dallas is also included as well as tattoos honoring his role models. A "Jumpman" logo for Michel Jordan, the "Black Mamba" for Kobe Bryant and a picture of boxer...

After a brief social media hiatus, Kellyanne Conway’s “wild child” daughter Claudia is back in the spotlight. This time, former Donald Trump campaign supervisor’s 18-year-old progeny has a new gig creating salacious content for Playboy.com, the online offshoot of the now-defunct print magazine. “Claudia Conway is one of many women who have found freedom, autonomy, and major financial success on our creator platform,” Playboy announced in a statement received by The Post. “We welcome her and support her choices.” Conway has been operating the subscription page since April, just six months after her 18th birthday. The fledgling Playboy bunny first...

Stigmas and prejudices often stop people with tattoos from being hired but this worker is done with the unfair treatment. A woman is calling out her former boss for preferring to hire people who don't have any tattoos or piercings. In a TikTok video, Ellie, who worked as a barista, explained that while working at a cafe, she ran into issues with her boss surrounding the idea of employees being hired who didn't have a clean-cut look about them. "We had to read all their handbooks, and they do allow tattoos as long as they're not on your face or...

The Justice Department on Friday charged three Azerbaijani gangsters with plotting to murder a Brooklyn-based Iranian-American author and activist last year. The case stems from the July arrest of Khalid Mehdiyev, who was collared near Masih Alinejad’s home with an assault rifle after the beefy and bearded 24-year-old was filmed ringing Alinejad’s doorbell and lingering on her porch in a leafy part of the New York City borough. The other two men facing charges are 43-year-old Rafat “Rome” Amirov, a resident of Iran who was arrested on Jan. 26 in New York, and 38-year-old Polad “Haci Qaqa” Omarov, who was...

Western Australia, an Australian state that comprises 32.9 percent of the continent, is being compared to Nazi Germany or Communist China over a controversial new proposal to ban biker gang members from showing off their tattoos or hanging out together in public.Set to be voted on by the Parliament of Western Australia sometime soon, the Unlawful Consorting and Prohibited Insignia Bill explicitly stipulates that biker gang members are “banned from wearing their patches and associating with one another in public.”The Sydney Morning Herald notes that a “patch” includes any type of “insignia, including tattoos.”According to a press release from the...

30-year old Matthew Doloff was booked into the Denver jail system on charges of first-degree murder in the shooting of a Patriot Prayer demonstrator in the city’s Civic Center on Saturday. Doloff appears to have been in the service of a 9NEWS reporter as a private security guard when he shot and fired a conservative demonstrator. He had been involved in a minor scuffle with the thus unidentified victim before shooting him in the head, and the victim only used pepper spray against his assailant when Doloff pointed a gun at him. Doloff owns a farm and is affiliated with...

Tattoos are not new. What is new is their ubiquity and extent of body coverage. They meet the eye with livid starkness everywhere one looks, turning the atmosphere and the culture positively fluorescent. What was once a niche market has expanded exponentially. Practically everyone of a certain age group, say, late teens to early fifties, seems to flaunt these decorative glyphs and totems on every visible part of their bodies, including the head and face. (Actress Amanda Bynes and rapper Post Malone are recent celebrity examples.) And judging from my experience in the change room of the gym where I...

Jerusalem, Jul 9, 2017 / 04:02 pm (CNA).- In the Old City of Jerusalem it's hard to escape the ancient history that's still alive within its walls. A simple smartphone search can send you on a walk to a centuries-old shop, bring you to the steps of a millennium-old Church, or lead you past the 3,000 year-old Temple Mount – all bursting with people and energy. But it's only within the stone walls of Razzouk Ink that the modern pilgrim can have that history etched onto his or her body for the rest of their lives. And Christian pilgrims have...

It’s been two and a half years since the last episode of Fox’s thriller television series “24,” but the show is evidently still fresh on liberal comedienne and former “24″ star Janeane Garofalo’s mind. In an appearance on the January 3 episode of the “Going Off Track” podcast, Garofalo said show creator and executive producer Joel Surnow picked certain cast members to make liberals — particularly Hillary Clinton — look bad. “That was actually a joke I think Joel Surnow was trying to plant,” Garofalo said. “He hated my politics and Air America. He’s a real right-winger. He actually worked...

Alaskans Standing Together, the independent expenditure committee funded by Native corporations, is handing out temporary tattoos at the Alaska Federation of Natives convention that say "Lisa Murkowski/Write-in for U.S. Senate." The monochrome tattoos are different from the red, white and blue tattoos that can be spotted on some Murkowski fans -- those are left over from the senator's 2004 campaign. (Check out the eighth photo in this gallery for a smoky example.) U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski is running for re-election as a write-in candidate after losing the GOP primary to Republican Joe Miller, who is backed by the Tea Party...
