A convoy of armored police vehicles lined the road near a home in Bowdoin, around 7 p.m. ET, Thursday evening. "Robert Card, you're under arrest. Come out now," officers yelled through a megaphone. "Drop everything and come outside...If anyone is in the residence, walk outside and walk to the front of the driveway," they said. Shannon Moss, a spokeswoman for the Maine State Police, said in a statement officers are conducting a search warrant. "It is unknown whether Robert Card is in any of the homes law enforcement will search. Law enforcement officials are simply doing their due diligence by...

Authorities have delayed the release of a manifesto penned by Audrey Hale, the shooter who killed six inside a Nashville, Tennessee elementary school, one public official said, calling it a "blueprint on total destruction." Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tennessee, told the New York Post the FBI was behind the delay while calling for the documents to be released to grieving loved ones and Congress. The manifesto "could maybe tell us a little bit about what’s going on inside of her head," he told the newspaper. "I think that would answer a lot of questions." Hale, 28, identified as transgender and was...

It has been almost three weeks since trans shooter Audrey Hale gunned down and murdered six innocent Christians, three of them very small children. At the time of the mass killing, police mentioned a manifesto along with a bunch of other guns … And as of now, they have yet to release the manifesto. Huh. Not to mention they’re still claiming Hale’s motive is ‘unclear,’ even with everything she left behind. Check this out from Byron York: Nashville mass killer Audrey Hale left behind 'cellphones and laptops, as well as a suicide note, three folders and 19 journals.' Instead of...

1-5-01 Kid didn't know it was '02 yet. I have prepared this statement in regards to the act I am about to commit. First of all, Osama bin Laden is absolutely justified in the terror he has caused on 9-11. He has brought a mighty nation to its knees! God blesses him and the others who helped make September 11th happen. The U.S. will have to face the consequences for its horrific actions against the Palestinian people and (illegible, could be Iraq?) by its allegiance with the monstrous Israelis who want nothing short of world domination! You will ...

The lone 15-year-old pilot who stole a small private plane and crashed it into a high-rise office block in Tampa, Florida, left a note expressing sympathy to Osama bin Laden. Tampa Police Chief Bennie Holder said the note was found on the body of Charles Bishop, who was the only person killed in Saturday's incident. "I would characterize it as a suicide note," Holder said.. He said Bishop's note clearly stated that he had acted alone without any help from anyone else. "Troubled Young Man" But Holder said that in the note Bishop expressed sympathy for bin Laden, the Saudi-born ...

If you’re reading this, you’re no doubt asking yourself, “Why did this have to happen?” The simple truth is that it is complicated and has been coming for a long time. The writing process, started many months ago, was intended to be therapy in the face of the looming realization that there isn’t enough therapy in the world that can fix what is really broken. Needless to say, this rant could fill volumes with example after example if I would let it. I find the process of writing it frustrating, tedious, and probably pointless… especially given my gross inability to...

Before Democratic fund-raiser Norman Hsu skipped a court hearing and temporarily vanished last week, he typed out a suicide note and sent copies to several acquaintances and charitable organizations, according to people who received it. The one-page note, signed by Mr. Hsu, "very explicitly said he intended to commit suicide," said one of the recipients in an account corroborated by others, including law-enforcement officials. Mr. Hsu also apologized for putting anybody "through inconvenience or trouble," the recipient said. The letter, which began, "To whom it may concern," arrived by FedEx at the addresses of several recipients last Thursday, the day...

Is 2008 The New 1964? [John Derbyshire] There's a Pro-Ron-Paul meme going around, to the effect that 2008 is the new 1964; i.e. that on the premise—debatable in itself, of course—that the GOP has no chance of winning the presidency next year, conservatives should run a Goldwater-style insurgency to remind the party we're here & set up some influence for 2012. Bruce Bartlett floated the meme here. I got a thought-provoking e-mail along similar lines (one of dozens like it I've had on that Paul column) from Ben Novak, who lists himself as "founder of the Americans in Europe for...

An Iraqi man arrested this month at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport for immigration law violations was charged Wednesday with lying to authorities about his travels outside the United States and about anti-American material he was carrying. When Ali Mohammed Abboud Almosaleh, 40, arrived at the airport on a flight from Amsterdam July 7, he told customs officers he had been out of the country for one month and had traveled to Syria, court documents said. But he actually had been gone for five months and had visited Iraq. He told officers that his digital video discs with images of...

BEDFORD, N.H. -- Republican Mitt Romney on Wednesday jabbed at President Bush, saying the image of the United States has suffered globally based on the perception that it invaded Iraq unilaterally. Addressing civic and business leaders, the former Massachusetts governor chided Bush as his fellow Republican traveled overseas for an economic summit and a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has been critical of U.S. efforts to install a missile defense shield in Europe. "I do think that we have suffered over the past several years for a number of reasons, and I think you probably know what they...
