I Believe Tara Reade. I’m Voting for Joe Biden Anyway. The importance of owning an ugly moral choice. By Linda Hirshman Ms. Hirshman is the author, most recently, of “Reckoning: The Epic Battle Against Sexual Abuse and Harassment.” May 6, 2020, 5:00 a.m. ET Let’s be clear: I believe Tara Reade. I believed Anita Hill, too. Remember the buttons? I wore one. What’s the constant here? Joe Biden, then the bumbling head of the Senate Judiciary Committee during the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings, now the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. Long before Ms. Reade, before the reports of the rubbing and...

BEIJING (Xinhua) -- China Monday expressed strong opposition to embroiling China in U.S. electoral politics, in response to a memo exposed by news outlet Politico that urged U.S. Republican candidates to address the COVID-19 crisis by aggressively attacking China. The 57-page strategy document, obtained by Politico last Friday, is focused on three main lines of assault: That China caused the virus "by covering it up," that Democrats are "soft on China," and that Republicans will "push for sanctions on China for its role in spreading this pandemic," Politico summarized. "Why have some political forces in the United States spared no...

If decent people working in mainstream American media want to know why many Americans do not trust them and are willing to use the term "fake news" to describe the mainstream media, I offer one of the most glaring examples of a lie in my lifetime. Last week, Newsweek headlined the following: "Conservative Radio Host Ridicules Anne Frank: 'I Don't Get My Wisdom From Teenagers.'" Now, imagine how that must have struck any reader not familiar with the "conservative radio host" or with what he actually said. "Ridicule Anne Frank" -- what kind of terrible human being would do that?...

I know you’re not supposed to review a TV show on the basis of a single episode, but I don’t think I’m going to make it past episode one of the second season of Jack Ryan. Its full title is Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan but it might as well be called Noam Chomsky’s Jack Ryan. Take the fictional version of Venezuela where most of the action is set. Its economy is in the toilet, the people are starving, and it’s on the verge of becoming a failed state. So far, so accurate. But the reason this Venezuela is such a...

Last week’s viral photograph of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pointing her finger at President Trump and reading him the riot act reflected a larger reality: If Trump won’t responsibly lead the nation, Pelosi will. The president has pretty much ceased being president. Trump never really seemed to enjoy the job, except for ceremonial tasks like handing out medals. I’d be surprised if he could name every member of his Cabinet, and I’d be shocked if he had the foggiest idea of what, say, Secretary Elaine Chao has been up to over at the Department of Transportation. Does anyone imagine that...

MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell issued an on-air clarification Tuesday after making shocking claims about President Donald Trump's ties to Russian oligarchs that had not been vetted by NBC News. In response to a Democrat-controlled House committee subpoena, Deutsche Bank revealed Tuesday that it was in possession of tax returns "related to" Trump or his immediate family. While the partially redacted filings did not specify whose tax returns the bank possessed, O'Donnell opened The Last Word by claiming they were President Trump's, based on "what one source close to Deutsche Bank has revealed to me." O'Donnell claimed later in the segment...

These debates are going to be a mess. They're all going to be about free everything and orange man bad. There will be little about policy and most about who can out-commie the rest.

Several days ago, I saw a headline come through my Facebook feed that was so absurd I assumed it was satire. Unfortunately, the headline that read, “Pregnancy Kills, Abortion Saves Lives” was real. It was from a New York Times op-ed written by late-term abortionist Warren M. Hern. Dr. Hern is the author of a book called Abortion Practice, which I read in January of this year as I prepared to debate another abortionist named Willie Parker. I had decided to read Hern’s book because he dedicates an entire chapter to describing in detail how to perform abortions. He focuses...

Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old Swedish environmental activist, has given her support for a general strike for the climate, saying the student movement she inspired needs more support from older generations to ensure politicians keep their promises under the Paris agreement. Speaking at a public event in London as Extinction Rebellion protests continued in the capital, the initiator of the school strike for climate movement was typically frank about the scale of the problem the world faces and the impact her campaign has made.... At several points, she stressed the need for the protests to spread. “This is not just young...

The left and its compliant media are willfully reporting false news to the American people. Whether it is a symptom of mass hysteria that is the genesis for this confirmation bias-style reporting or an intentional maneuver to spread anti-Trump propaganda, its effect is toxic and pernicious.

While speaking out on the House floor yesterday against the House GOP lawsuit against President Obama, Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee said the move is a “veil for impeachment.” Jackson Lee also took the opportunity to point out that “We [Democrats] did not seek an impeachment of President Bush” when he was in office. Really? Not only did some Democrats seek an impeachment of President Bush, but Rep. Jackson Lee co-sponsored the bill? Classic!

WASHINGTON — An official at the department of Housing And Urban Development whose criticized tweets suggesting that there could be questions about the military records of former platoon mates of Bowe Bergdahl apologized Thursday to service members and the Obama administration. “While I just wanted to make the point that the public should wait before passing judgment, I unfortunately used my own poor judgment in choosing inappropriate language that many view as disparaging to U.S. service members,” said Brandon Friedman, deputy assistant secretary of public affairs at HUD. “That was certainly not my intent and I regret making the comments...

If anything as embarrassing as what follows occurred at a Republican presidential contender's website, including the follow-up ridicule by the opposition, the press would never be able to resist covering it. A mythical (I hope) ecard created at the Obama-Biden campaign site call purports to be from a daughter to her mother, and asks about the most ridiculous question you can imagine. I have no idea how the Obama campaign came up with $18,000. As I noted over six months ago in March, $9, 28-day supplies of birth control pills can be had at Target (which now appears to be...
