Donald Trump has ordered the world's largest aircraft carrier to the Caribbean in a major escalation in his war on narco-terrorists from Venezuela.
USS Gerald R. Ford is joining the deployment of US Southern Command, Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said on Friday.
The 1,090-ft vessel — which can carry more than 75 warplanes — moves as part of a carrier strike group that includes a cruiser, three destroyers and nine aircraft squadrons.
It will 'will enhance and augment existing capabilities to disrupt narcotics trafficking and degrade and dismantle' the cartels, Parnell said in a statement.
The 100,000-ton warship joins the largest American force deployed to the Caribbean since the Cold War, including nuclear submarines, F-35 fighter jets, MQ-9 Reaper drones, P-8 Poseidon reconnaissance planes, and B-52 bombers.
The extraordinary deployment comes after Trump's declaration that America is now in a 'state of armed conflict' with cartel forces, giving his commanders sweeping latitude to hunt traffickers beyond US waters.
The Pentagon has established a new joint task force under US Southern Command, despite Democratic lawmakers warning the president is going rogue and drifting towards a secretive conflict on foreign soil.
Earlier on Friday, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced another strike on a narco-terrorist boat in the region, killing six alleged drug smugglers.
The 'lethal kinetic strike' targeted a vessel operated by the infamous Tren de Aragua cartel, which has been flooding America with the deadly synthetic opioid fentanyl.
'If you are a narco-terrorist smuggling drugs in our hemisphere, we will treat you like we treat Al-Qaeda. Day or NIGHT, we will map your networks, track your people, hunt you down, and kill you,' Hegseth said in a statement.

I am not sure why a carrier would be helpful so close to America and numerous land bases. Unless there are ships coming from somewhere else to Columbia in the Pacific or further south in the Atlantic.

Maybe the next time you go to a Joint Chiefs of Staff meeting someone will explain it to you.
It is easier to keep surveillance on a fixed location (like an air base) to warn of potential strike groups heading out. A carrier can be moved quickly and is harder to track and watch.

Trinidad and Tobago too. They have oil refinery there that can deal with heavy sour crude that you find in Venezuela and neighboring nations.

The ‘escalation of the war on drugs’ occurred when China and conspiring nations embarked on a coordinated program to produce, transport and distribute in the United States a substance that is as toxic as plutonium or a military nerve agent, and accounts for domestic deaths exceeding vehicular accidents annually. That’s when it ‘escalated’.

President Trump should warn all Americans in Mexico, Central and South America that their lives are in danger due to drug cartel retaliation. It’s a given.
