I know you’re not supposed to review a TV show on the basis of a single episode, but I don’t think I’m going to make it past episode one of the second season of Jack Ryan. Its full title is Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan but it might as well be called Noam Chomsky’s Jack Ryan.
Take the fictional version of Venezuela where most of the action is set. Its economy is in the toilet, the people are starving, and it’s on the verge of becoming a failed state. So far, so accurate. But the reason this Venezuela is such a basket case is not because it’s been ruled by a succession of corrupt socialist demagogues for the past 21 years, but because—wait for it—the President is a far-right populist with bad hair. But don’t worry, kids. There’s a challenger waiting in the wings whose planning to take him down at the forthcoming Presidential election: a middle-aged, female academic-turned-activist who believes in “social justice.” In case that’s too subtle for you, she even looks a bit like Elizabeth Warren.
Jack Ryan season two isn’t just the usual, run-of-the-mill, politically correct Hollywood gibberish like Watchmen. It’s as though the writers and producers have deliberately set out to troll conservatives. What are they going to do for an encore? Set season three in Cambodia circa 1977 and portray Pol Pot as a free market capitalist obsessed with Ayn Rand?
Perhaps John Krasinski, whose star vehicle this is, was stung by some of the woke criticism the first series attracted—“From frame to frame, Jack Ryan is an astonishing case study in toxic narratives,” said Vanity Fair’s Sonia Saraiya—and is trying to make amends...

I am watching episode one and wasn’t sure I heard Jack Ryan say the President of the failed state of Venezuela was a right-winger who drove it into the ground so I looked it up.

I did not see the President as a far right dictator. But you’re right that he misportrayed Venezuela. It was more like California. They still had elections and they were poor. But it wasn’t because of socialism. Apparently the writers could not bear to blame socialism for Venezuelas problems. And their problems weren’t nearly as severe as in reality.
Some power is putting secret missiles in Venezuela and it isn't the Russians, not sure who, could be Blofeld and SPECTERE for all I know.
I bet Clancy is rolling over in his grave.
Hubby and I were SO looking forward to season 2, and we barely persevered to finish it, Horrid second season. That is not the Jack Ryan we know.

I watched it and , as somebody tired of regime change wars , had the opposite criticism. They were pushing the tired neocon line that Venezuala somehow poses a threat to the US, so we’ve got to “ do something” about it, instead of allow the residents to work out their own future by themselves
We’ve been pouring tax dollars and young Americans’ lives into a series of wars to counter dubious , manufactured “threats” - Iraq, Libya, Syria. Trump got elected saying enough is enough, and that’s one reasonI supported him from the beginning

Season 1 was pretty good, Season 2 I was able to finish, but in Season 3 I couldn’t get through the 3rd episode. You’re right. It’s a mess.
As for Season 2 of Jack Ryan, the first episode bored me, and I wasn’t even paying attention to the political propaganda. I’m in no hurry to see Episode 2.

Yes it is. Why do they have to go out of their way so much to make excuses for socialism.
The left’s obsession with Venezuela and blaming the failure of Socialism on America is disgusting. Be very worried that most of these kids who will vote in 2020 have zero knowledge of the Cold War and think Socialism is just great and America can do it.
