EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ — A 2020 graduate whose senior year was disrupted by COVID-19 shutdowns defeated an incumbent candidate in Egg Harbor Township's school board race this week. At 19 years old, Nicholas Seppy upset Terre Alabarda for a seat on the school board by a 17-point margin. Seppy received 4,042 votes to Terre Alabarda's 2,830, according to Atlantic County's unofficial election results. Seppy told the College Fix that the shutdowns he experienced as a student last year were "awful." Schools in Egg Harbor Township operated under a hybrid instruction model for most of the 2020-2021 school year. According...

Two men have been arrested on charges they set a 27-year-old friend on fire while he was asleep on a couch in what police described as a “prank that went terribly, terribly wrong." Brandon Perez, 23, of Hammonton, and David Sult, 24, of Mays Landing, face charges of aggravated arson, aggravated assault and conspiracy, police in Hamilton, Atlantic County said Wednesday. The Brigantine man was sleeping at Sult’s home on the 2900 block of Cologne Avenue in the Mays Landing section of Hamilton on March 15 when Sult and Perez intentionally lit him on fire, police said. Family members took...

Although the sinless life of Jesus Christ is a foundational tenet of the Christian faith, a study recently released by the Diocese of Camden found that 60 percent of practicing Catholics in southern New Jersey believe Jesus sinned during his time on Earth. "The number of Catholics who have a very flawed, a seriously flawed, understanding of who Jesus is, that's troublesome," Bishop Joseph Galante of the Diocese of Camden said during a press conference, USA Today reports. "We've got to re-focus on how we teach and inform people. Jesus is the foundation of who we are as Catholics." The...

Spikes of corn stalks are scattered along miles of fog-shrouded fields in Hancock’s Bridge on a spring morning — an eerie suggestion of the bayonets used in the Revolutionary and Civil War battles that were fought there. On the horizon is the billowing cooling tower of the Salem Nuclear Power Plant, which is taller than the length of a football field. It is a stark reminder that this historic rural hamlet relies on an industry that is playing a major role in the nation’s debate over energy policy. The contrast is not lost on Ellen Pompper. Her family moved to...

Military officials are investigating an incident during which an Air National Guard fighter pilot fired 20 mm rounds over South Jersey last night. The New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Officials, in announcing a news conference for this afternoon, said only that the discharge of an undetermined number rounds occurred in the airspace for the Warren Grove target range in the Pine Barrens. But residents of Little Egg Harbor Township in Ocean County said investigators had converged on the Little Egg Harbor Intermediate School and that it apparently was related to the fighter jet incident. The military affairs...
