EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ — A 2020 graduate whose senior year was disrupted by COVID-19 shutdowns defeated an incumbent candidate in Egg Harbor Township's school board race this week.
At 19 years old, Nicholas Seppy upset Terre Alabarda for a seat on the school board by a 17-point margin. Seppy received 4,042 votes to Terre Alabarda's 2,830, according to Atlantic County's unofficial election results.
Seppy told the College Fix that the shutdowns he experienced as a student last year were "awful." Schools in Egg Harbor Township operated under a hybrid instruction model for most of the 2020-2021 school year.
According to the Washington Examiner , Seppy was motivated after he saw that "parents were not being listened to" and "wanted to give them a voice on behalf of their children."
"My passion for the community of Egg Harbor Township is entirely everlasting, I aspire to set a positive example for our district. EHT shall have an excellent reputation, in both our standard of education and our efficient process of our budget," Seppy wrote in an Instagram post.
Seppy's goals during his term include expanding civics education and increasing vocational training opportunities.
Seppy previously served as a student representative on the school board, The College Fix reported.
Great post! These are the people we need taking the school board meetings. Good on him.
I have a Republican friend who ran and won again a democrat incumbent in a NJ county race.
The best answer is to get Government out of the school business entirely . An open Market for education would produce much better results , just like it does for most other businesses.
NJ ping.
This. End semi-monopoly government schools.
Who would get new schools built or maintained? Better yet, get rid of the teacher’s union.
This is what is needed, new right of center blood removing leftists from power. Unfortunately as long as we are saddled with RINOs we will never defeat Democrats properly. I read an article over at Twitchy on how they betray us, “‘While the squad voted no?’ $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill passes House with help from 13 Republicans”, so give that a look. Remember this is money we do not have being printed so it can be spent on things nobody needs by the left who want America to fail. Nicholas’ story will get out and school board commies from coast to coast will fear for their positions.
We need to run in ALL local races. Too many places you see no Republicans running.
The Department of Education actually educates NOBODY. We spend more per student today than we ever have and test scores are down, while we import foreigners for engineer and other positions.
He looks like a young Ted Cruz.
Agreed! We need more people to run for school boards but more importantly, we need more people to vote for the people who run for school boards. Republicans in Fairfax County Virginia runs a person every time for all open school board seats and they lose by 30%. It is possible, even in Fairfax county, to get the vote out to win some of these school board seats.
By the way, I used to live in south jersey and it is very conservative but the north jersey idiots have flooded the state with illegal immigrants who I know vote illegally.
Just spitballin here...
1. Schools got built or maintained before the government stuck its nose in.
2. In my city, schools have been closed and conserved for future use for lack of students. This indicates to me that enough schools exist, at least here, to serve the needs of the community, even in the event of future growth.
3. Where is education a federal responsibility under Article 1, Section 8 and Amendment 10 of the Constitution?
“Unofficial election results”...Alabarda is waiting for 3,000 more ballets to turn up.
Good find, good article.
This Seppy guy knows the schools better than some out of touch eunuch guard for the teacher’s union.
AND he wants CIVICS to be taught!
Be still my beating heart!
He’s in Keyport
