If you’re politically on the Right in America, you can no longer count on equal justice under the law. Ihave often heard folk tales about how the Left used to be skeptical of state power. To a small extent, it still is. But only when the person in the defendant’s chair isn’t considered a political enemy. After quite clearly acting in self-defense, Kyle Rittenhouse has been dragged through a sham trial. A regular kangaroo court has been in session in Kenosha County, Wisconsin for weeks. The ringleader of the circus is a state prosecutor called Thomas Binger, who bears an...

Collectors Glasses Painted With Toxic Cadmium LOS ANGELES -- Cadmium has been discovered in the painted design on "Shrek"-themed drinking glasses being sold nationwide at McDonald's, forcing the burger giant to recall 12 million of the cheap U.S.-made collectibles while dramatically expanding contamination concerns about the toxic metal beyond imported children's jewelry. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which announced the voluntary recall early Friday, warned consumers to immediately stop using the glasses; McDonald's said it would post instructions on its website next week regarding refunds. The 16-ounce glasses, being sold for about $2 each as part of a promotional...

BRIDGEND, Wales, A pair of Welsh fans of the film series "Shrek" dressed as the titular ogre and his bride, Princess Fiona, for their "Shrek"-themed wedding. Viv and Tracey Williams of Bridgend said friends often told them they resembled the cartoon ogres so they decided to dress their wedding party as characters from the films, The Sun reported Monday. "Everyone said I made a lovely Princess Fiona and Viv was the perfect Shrek," Tracey Williams, 33, said. "The best man was dressed as Monsieur Hood, my dad was Lord Farquaad, my mother was the Fairy Godmother and the maid of...

I didn’t laugh out loud until she said, “You have to know your boundaries,” but it’s the line at the end that really brings down the house. Note to young Kierra, righteous in her irritation: Her grasp of boundaries isn’t Mrs. Conyers’s strong suit.

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. (AP) - He doesn't want to be an ogre about it, but the father of a fifth-grader thinks teachers are wasting time when they show movies in class - and if the film is a bootleg, he says, ''That's a really terrible lesson.'' Tim Trewhella, 46, said his 10-year-old daughter reported that her class watched the animated movie ''Shrek the Third'' on Tuesday and recognized it as the fairy-tale hit still showing in theaters. ''A friend hooked me up with it,'' teacher Lovell Quiroz said, according to the girl. Peekskill schools Superintendent Judith Johnson issued a statement saying...

Went and saw Shrek the Third this past weekend. I had enjoyed the previous two flicks and was willing to give this one a looksey. It is basically the same forumla as the previous two - put Shrek on a journey and play some rock music in the backgroud. The forumula is wearing thin and this movie ranks last out of the three. Overall, it wasn't that funny. It was too predictable. BUT, THE WORST PART OF THE FILM WAS HOLLYWOOD'S CONTINUAL BRAINWASHING OF OUR KIDS BY PUTTING A TRANSGENDRED CHARACTER IN THE FILM. For whatever reason the writers/director felt...

A children's advocacy group wants the Department of Health and Human Services to oust Shrek, the animated ogre, from his role as spokesman for an anti-obesity drive. The Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood says the soon-to-open "Shrek the Third" has too many promotional ties with unhealthy foods to justify using Shrek as a health advocate. "There is an inherent conflict of interest between marketing junk food and promoting public health," Susan Linn, the group's director, wrote in a letter sent Wednesday to HHS Secretary Michael Leavitt. "Surely Health and Human Services can find a better spokesperson for healthy living than...

Not green but jolly, Polish Shrek seeks MP job WARSAW (Reuters) - Poles still wondering whom to back in Sunday's general election can now vote for a fairy tale candidate. Or almost. Stanislaw Szrek, pronnounced "Shrek" in Polish, does not resemble the friendly, green ogre who shot to international fame as the star of movies by U.S. studio DreamWorks, but he is receiving just as much publicity in Polish media. "We published the electoral list and I became famous overnight," Szrek, a candidate of the pro-business Civic Platform, told Reuters. "Maybe there's something in a name. I am 57 so...

The conventional Hollywood wisdom has long held that religious and family-friendly movies are not high earners. But this wisdom is beginning to wane in the face of recent theater trends. The five top-grossing movies so far this year are rated either PG or PG-13, and all of them have surpassed the $100 million mark. Two of last year’s top 5, Shrek 2 and The Incredibles, were PG-rated animated films. This kind of success is causing executives to rethink their standard fare. Family-friendly movies, especially animated ones, have brought people to the movies who haven’t gone in years. And they will...

TORONTO (CP) - The hit feature Shrek 2 joins the ranks of animated films to be "outed" by some Christian fundamentalists in the U.S., who charge that cross-dressing and transgender themes have made their way into the beloved kids' movie and warn parents to beware. Although many people see the Oscar-nominated film as a humorous story about a green ogre and his true love, the Traditional Values Coalition has a different take on the animated feature. "Shrek 2 is billed as harmless entertainment but contains subtle sexual messages," the coalition says on its website of the movie, a popular DVD...

"Jump the Shark" is a semi-known phrase meaning "lose all credibility" or "it's all downhill from here." The phrase comes from www.jumptheshark.com - which catalogs and debates the (paraphrase) "defining moment when you know you're favorite TV Show has reached its peak and its all downhill from here." The phrase "jump the shark" comes from a Happy Days episode - late in the series - where Fonzie went on a vacation with the Cunninghams. In that episode of the sitcom, Fonzie jumped over a jaws-like shark while waterskiing on the ocean. Fans generally thought this moment was so absurd, that...

Hundreds of friends, family members, schoolmates and fellow soldiers packed into Arlington Hills Lutheran Church on the East Side on Saturday morning to pay their final respects to Army Sgt. Michael Carlson, the first soldier from St. Paul to be killed in the war in Iraq. Carlson, 22, who died with four other soldiers Jan. 24 when their Bradley Fighting Vehicle rolled over into a canal in the town of Mohammed Sacran, Iraq, was remembered as a strong, passionate, fun-loving young man whose life ended as he was fulfilling a childhood dream. In a eulogy for his younger brother, Daniel...

TVC Weekly News: Parents Beware: 'Shrek 2' Features Transgenderism And Crossdressing Themes Summary: The DreamWorks' animated film, "Shrek 2," is billed as harmless entertainment but contains subtle sexual messages. Parents who are thinking about taking their children to see "Shrek 2," may wish to consider the following: The movie features a male-to-female transgender (in transition) as an evil bartender. The character has five o'clock shadow, wears a dress and has female breasts. It is clear that he is a she-male. His voice is that of talk show host Larry King. During a dance scene at the end of the movie,...

How should a joking reference to castration be translated into Hebrew? For the translators of the newly-released Shrek 2, making a reference to high-pitched singer David Da'or got the point across a little too sharply, for Da'or's taste. The Tel Aviv District Court on Monday ruled to remove the box-office hit from screens across the country, due to an insulting reference to Da'or, Israel's representative in the last Eurovision song contest. The movie was returned to screens later in the day, after the offending remark was removed from Hebrew-dubbed versions. The original English version of Shrek 2 contains a scene...
