Thanks for the post. I even get the New Yorker, and I didn't realize this man had died. I'm sure that's my fault, sloppy reading, TOO MUCH MAIL.

Steig was never one of my faves, but I never knew he wrote Shrek, so that certainly improves his standing with me. Altho' I'm sure much was added to the movie, certainly the merciless Disney bashing, well deserved and SO amusing.

But I am sorry to hear of Mr. Steig's death. I grew up with his work, week in, week out. And in recent years it was always nice to see his good humored stuff amidst so much drek foisted on the New Yorker by that Brit version of Hillary!, Tina! Brown!

Oh well, not lost, but gone before.

His children's books are terrific. I especially recommend "Sylvester and the Magic Pebble," "Roland, the Minstrel Pig," "Amos and Boris," and "The Amazing Bone."

Roland the Minstrel Pig is the best, in its way, because it teaches all the best lessons about following your dream and doing heroic deeds. But the others are also wonderful for kids and the parents who read them to them.

Interesting site, indeed. Hint for all others who may go there, let your cursor linger over the pictures, that will reveal who they are. Then you can click to the info.

As my grandmother was reported to say "People are dying who never died before."
