Cities have historically been places where large numbers of people came together to conduct trade to each other's advantage. Detroit (and, sadly to say, my beloved Buffalo) are now just collections of people living in close proximity without an economic reason figuring out ways to convince the state and federal governments to support them.
This is what government looks like under that premise.

We here in Southeastern MI by osmosis get lumped into this Detroit mess and for an area whose economy is worst in the nation, we have been taken it down another notch because of Kawame and his problems. The carnival continues, every day there is a new act. I must start a "Daily Detroit Dysfunction Tread" or something to that effect with links to all the acts until the Feds come in and mop up the mess.
From what I hear (a friend of a friend who is an atty in another state following this mess closely), they might not come in with the same perjury charges/issues, but the whole public works issues and asking for his buddy to get a piece of the action, well that is a different story (just speculation on the atty's part).
