Two Egyptian policemen have been killed and two others injured in two blasts in northern Sinai, officials said. The interior ministry said police were operating in Jabal Halal when the booby-trapped devices exploded. It was the second such incident in the area in two days, and came as security forces searched for militants suspected in several recent bomb attacks. It is not clear if the devices were freshly planted or date back to past conflicts in Sinai with Israel. An explosion thought to have been from a landmine damaged an armoured car and wounded at least three policemen on Wednesday....

In Egypt, Many Question Whether Their Own Culture Is to Blame for Terror AttacksBy Nadia Abou El-Magd Associated Press Writer Published: Jul 27, 2005 CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - Stunned by terror attacks in a Red Sea resort, Egyptians are in a remarkably frank debate about whether mosques and schools - and the government itself - should be blamed for promoting Islamic extremism. Even pro-government media say authorities have created a climate where young people are turning into radicals and suicide bombers. In a country more used to hearing general condemnations of terrorism, critics on Wednesday were angry - and specific...

After the breakup of a five-year relationship, Kristina Miller left California for England, found a new job and fell in love again. "She had completely turned her life around," recalled her mother, Susan McNeely, who lives in Peachtree City, a 35-mile drive south of Atlanta. McNeely said her daughter "was very adventurous." So it was completely in character to move to another country or spend the final moments of her life at an exotic resort, like Sharm el-Sheik in Egypt, where Miller was killed last week in a terrorist attack. She and her English boyfriend, Keri Davies, who also died,...

SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt - Police investigators said Monday that they were searching for six Pakistani men as the probe into the weekend's terrorist attack at this Red Sea resort widened. Police were circulating photographs of the six, who have apparently been missing since before the attacks, at checkpoints in and around this southern Sinai resort city. An Associated Press correspondent who saw the images said the men appeared to be between the ages of 20 and 30. The involvement of Pakistanis in the attack in Sharm el-Sheik would be unprecedented, as non-Egyptians have rarely been linked to attacks here. It...

Pakistan President Pervez Musharrf today said al-Qaeda's command and communication system has been eliminated, and that the network could not have orchestrated terrorist attacks in London, Egypt or elsewhere from Pakistan. President Pervez Musharraf's remarks followed reports that Egyptian police are looking for six Pakistanis as the probe widens into the deadly weekend bombings in Egypt's resort town of Sharm el-Sheik. Musharraf told journalists in the eastern city of Lahore that al-Qaeda "sanctuaries" in Pakistan's rugged tribal regions have been overrun, and that security forces have captured 700 of its fighters. However, Musharraf said small groups of al-Qaida militants might...

DATELINE: Los Angeles KABC talk radio travel show I was minding my own business this morning just before lunch and driving to the video store to return a few movies. The travel show was on, and the hosts were discussing the bombing in Egypt. The male host, name unknown to me, was discussing how nice the resorts are at Sharm el Sheik. Then he talked about the "idiot" who denotated a bomb "for reasons only known to him." I couldn't take it. We hear lots of crap on television, see it on the lefty-dominated press, and see it on insane...

At least 119 people were wounded, the Interior Ministry said. With two extremist groups claiming responsibility, Egypt tightened security at other...

Mideast summit raises peace hopes SHARM EL SHEIK, Egypt — Grinning broadly, the two men clasped hands as they strained to reach across water bottles, their national flags and a bouquet of yellow and white flowers atop a wide table that spoke of the distance remaining between Israel and the Palestinians. The warm and lengthy handshake between Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, repeated three times for the cameras at a breakthrough summit at this Egyptian resort Tuesday, lifted spirits in a region that has seen hopes for peace dashed so often in four years of...
