Just after midnight on February 9, 2013, 23-year-old Shandee Blackburn was stabbed to death while walking home from work at the Harrup Park Country Club in Mackay. The police investigation led to charges and a subsequent trial in 2017, but the accused was acquitted by a jury. In 2020, a coronial inquest identified Shandee's killer.
