According to the Florida Supreme Court, Amendment 2 does just one thing. It defines marriage as between only one man and one woman into the Florida Constitution. When an amendment to the Florida Constitution is submitted, it goes through an approval process that finishes with the court deciding whether the proposed amendment deals with only one subject. When Amendment 2 was submitted for review by the court, the American Civil Liberties Union challenged the language. It argued the amendment dealt with more than one subject. When the case was heard, the ACLU attorneys asserted six times that Amendment 2 would...

Three of the Florida Supreme Court Justices ruling in favor of AlGore in 2000 are up for a retention vote on November 7, 2006. Justices R. Fred Lewis, Barbara Jean Pariente, and Peggy A. Quince all face the question "Shall Justice _____ of the Supreme Court be retained in office?" Revenge is a dish best served cold and I'm pulling this thread out of my freezer for your dining delight. Pass the word and let's make this a triple play!

My name is John Armor. I’m a civil rights attorney who has practiced in the Supreme Court since 1972, a good run of 32 years mostly in First Amendment cases. Now I have resigned from the Bar of that Court. I state my reasons here, and urge others to join me in that decision. “About 220,000” attorneys are in the Bar of the Supreme Court. The Court Clerk has no exact count, just this estimate. Since the Court only hears about 190 cases a year, obviously most of those lawyers have never set foot in that Court to present a...

"The Solution to Voting Problems in the States?" Posted by Doc Farmer Wednesday, May 21, 2003 Ah, Florida. The Sunshine State. Or, at least, that used to be the Floridian motto. Nowadays, it seems to have shifted to ''Florida--We're Too Dumb to Know How to Vote.'' Now, before I get a bunch of angry e-mail messages from retirees, orange farmers, and Mouseketeers, please understand something. I know it's not you're fault. The hanging chads, the endless courtroom dramas, the attempted re-writing of election law by SCOFLA (is that an appropriate acronym or what--just say it out loud, and marvel at...
