In his highly quoted speech to the Munich Security Conference, Vice President J.D. Vance singled out a country unfamiliar to many Americans: Romania. Mr. Vance condemned what he described as Europe’s crackdown on free speech and mentioned Romania’s election annulment. In December, “Romania straight up canceled the results of a presidential election based on the flimsy suspicions of an intelligence agency and enormous pressure from its continental neighbors,” he said. “The argument was that Russian disinformation had infected the Romanian elections, but I’d ask my European friends to have some perspective. If your democracy can be destroyed with a few...

QUEENS, NY (TND) — A shocking arrest was made in an apparent homegrown terrorism case involving two brothers in Queens, New York. Authorities said an arsenal of homemade weapons and a "hit list" listing "cops, judges, politicians, celebrities" and “banker scum” were found when the suspected anarchists were arrested at their home. New York police arrested 39-year-old Andrew and 51-year-old Angelo Hatziagelis. On January 17, a search warrant was served at their Astoria apartment that the brothers shared with their mother and another brother.

In early 49 B.C., fresh from his conquest of Gaul, Julius Caesar and his Thirteenth Legion approached a small river that separated the Roman province of Cisalpine Gaul from the Roman Republic's heartland. This stream, called the Rubicon, marked the political boundary of Rome's military might: no Roman general could bring men under arms into Italy. But Caesar, politically ambitious, was under threat. His eight-year campaign in Gaul had been deemed illegal by many in the Senate and there were calls for his head.Further, one of his fellow members of the First Triumvirate, Crassus, had been killed in a foolish,...

The White House claims it only learned of the FBI’s stunning raid on former President Trump’s home in Florida on Twitter, at the same time the media did, according to multiple reports. As improbable as it may seem that the Department of Justice would execute a search warrant on a former president and political opponent of the administration without Biden’s knowledge, that’s what New York Times reporter Jonathan Martin tweeted Monday night. Trump was not home during the raid at the mansion known as Mar-a-Lago. “Senior White House officials found out about the FBI’s Mar a Lago raid on Twitter,...

Remember that famous Hillary Clinton line about Benghazi? She asked, "What difference does it make?" She meant it's over; it's old news; why rehash it now? Nothing will change. Of course, that was convenient for Clinton and former President Barack Obama. They lied, and heroes died at Benghazi. The last thing Clinton or Obama wanted was an investigation. Democrats are saying the same thing now about the 2020 election. They say: "What difference does it make? Donald Trump lost. It's over. The election is certified. Joe Biden is the president. Nothing will change. You're all wasting your time." Again, that's...

In the closing days of 50 BC, the Roman Senate declared that Julius Caesar’s term as a provincial governor was finished. Roman law afforded its magistrates immunity to prosecution, but this immunity would end with Caesar’s term. As the leader of the populares faction, Caesar had many enemies among the elite optimates, and as soon as he left office, these enemies planned to bury him in litigation. Caesar knew he would lose everything: property, liberty, even his life. Caesar decided it was better to fight for victory than accept certain defeat. In January 49 BC, he crossed the Rubicon River...

For more than half a century, governments all over the world trusted a single company to keep the communications of their spies, soldiers and diplomats secret. The company, Crypto AG, got its first break with a contract to build code-making machines for U.S. troops during World War II. SNIP The Swiss firm made millions of dollars selling equipment to more than 120 countries well into the 21st century. Its clients included Iran, military juntas in Latin America, nuclear rivals India and Pakistan, and even the Vatican. But what none of its customers ever knew was that Crypto AG was secretly...

Today is the anniversary of the day in 49 B.C. when Julius Caesar - noting, Iacta alea esto ("The die is cast") - crossed the Rubicon River with his legions to march on Rome in defiance of both the Senate and Roman law, which forbade any general from crossing the Rubicon and entering Italy proper with a standing army. To do so was treason. This tiny stream would reveal Caesar's intentions and mark the point of no return. Born around 100 B.C. into one of the oldest patrician families of the republic, Caesar began his political career as a member...

Once the Oligarchy is above the law, the Republic is already dead. To paraphrase Ernest Hemingway: How did you lose your Republic? Two ways, gradually and then suddenly. The Romans experienced this when their Republic was extinguished by Empire. The erosion of the Republic was gradual: slowly but surely, the lower classes' representation in governance was curtailed; the Oligarchy of the wealthy and powerful cemented their privileges at the expense of the many; Oligarchs rose above the laws that were supposed to apply to all, and executive power was consolidated in top administrators and the wealthy at the expense of...

12/19/11 Do you suppose cows have any idea what’s coming as they’re marched down the chute? Or do they stare with bovine indifference at the tail and hind quarters in front of them, until they’re suddenly — and very briefly — startled by the man with the nail gun? Perhaps Americans will — likewise too late — ask themselves what happened in the very near future. Perhaps just after the midnight knock comes and they are taken away into the night. It is not an exaggeration. America is now on the cusp of becoming a state that does exactly such...

I would like to hear if any freepers out there are Jeep aficionados, and if so, what esperiences they have had with customizing for capable off road use, while maintaing some reasonable on road (winter daily driver) demeanor. I had a Comanche years ago, and did nothing with it, and have a Commander now, which is a real softie. My dream is an 08 or 09 WUR 4dr hard top with the 5.7L conversion from AEV. What say you all?
