One of the replacements for the CZ 455 line at the 2024 SHOT Show is the 457 Jaguar long-barreled .22 rifle. The rifle has one of the longest .22 barrels in production at 28.625 inches. It has open sights regulated from 25 to 200 meters. The long barrel allows precision shooting without a telescopic sight. The rifle replaces the 455 Ultra Lux. The wood on the Jaguar is beech and often produces an excellent figure in a rifle stock. The exhibit of CZ rimfire rifles at the 2023 SHOT Show displays the Jaguar barrel as over four inches longer than the...

Remington subsonic 2022 U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)-– Interest in silencers/suppressors is growing at logarithmic rates in the United States. This correspondent was pleased to see Remington (now part of Vista Outdoors) has brought out a Long Rifle cartridge designed for use with suppressors. They identify the round with a logo of a person holding what appears to be a pistol with a silencer attached, in the lower right corner. The Remington representative at the SHOT Show booth was extremely knowledgeable about the .22 rimfire line and what had been done to make this particular round effective.Nick Sachse, who has been with Remington for 30...

U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- How long can ammunition be stored before it degrades? Much depends on the storage conditions. With reasonable care, ammunition has a shelf life of many decades, as verified by tests done with military centerfire cartridges. But how long does .22 rimfire last before it starts to degrade? There has not been much systematic long-term storage testing of .22 rimfire. It tends to be used as an expendable item. Some people have found an old box or two of ammunition and checked it for viability. This correspondent was able to obtain a large cache of 65+-year-old .22 rimfire ammunition with a...

A long time ago I found myself searching up the “quietest pistol” on Google. What came up was a Ruger Mark IV outfitted with a suppressor. Watching that video is what started my love affair with .22 caliber firearms. Since then I’ve dabbled with plenty of handguns and rifles for plinking. The Rock River Arms LAR-22 is next up. Is it any good, or should you pass this one up?

Everyone loves a good .22 LR shooting session. There’s nothing quite like casually sending rounds down range after a long day. What’s better is that shooting a .22 won’t break the bank. This tiny caliber isn’t just for fun either (although that’s what I use it for); it can also be used as a training caliber, usually to mitigate costs of more expensive calibers like 556. The Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 certainly fits the bill for that. Is it any good?

Okay, I was reading old pulp novels and finishing off the Christmas oranges and I got the idea (Okay, I stole the idea from the book and extrapolated it) to look into seeing what modern gunsmiths (who have access to allows and machine tools never imagined 90 years ago) might do with replicating the weapons most appearing in the books I was reading? I have seen the double barrel Colt 1911 models...but what about the Mauser C96? With modern steel could one be made to fire small rifle cartridges of the period (30-30 maybe?) And how about the Thompson Submachine...

Like many shooters, I started off plinking cans and punching paper targets with a rimfire .22 Long Rifle when I was a kid. That first rifle—an aged single-shot with rough iron sights and a short stock—became the gun that served to teach me the fundamentals of accurate shooting and safe firearm handling. And although I no longer have that little rifle I still keep several rimfire handguns and rifles on-hand. In fact, I have more rimfires than centerfires and shotguns combined. Why? Because they’re fun and affordable to shoot, and they help me become more proficient with larger firearms. A...

I talked to Rodney S. Taylor, Chief Engineer, at the Shot Show in Las Vegas. He said that the .22 ammunition is the Company's mainstay, by far the majority of the ammunition that they produce. Much of the Ammunition goes to the Central and South America markets. Aquila made the decision to significantly increase production a couple of years ago. Their machinery is state of the art, an almost completely automated, top of the line, process. Last year, in 2015, they increased their production by close to 30%, producing somewhat less than a billion rounds of ammunition. I recall a...

It happens daily. Still. I get calls and e-mails asking where all the ammo is. Except it is not “all” ammo anymore. For the record, there is no conspiracy. There is no secret government contract. It’s not Bloomberg or Soros (even though their actions and pronouncements often increase demand. Ironic, huh?). The major domestic ammunition makers have been producing more ammunition than ever. They are all up in terms of total production—double, and in some areas, triple-digit increases. They are all running three shifts. And when it comes to center-fire cartridges, at least of three of the big makers are...

The federal government this week rejected Gov. Jerry Brown's request to help pay for damage caused by the Rim Fire, leaving the state and the small Sierra communities that suffered in the blaze on the hook for potentially tens of millions of dollars. In a letter sent to the governor Monday, the administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency said California's third largest wildfire was not severe enough to qualify as a federal disaster. As a result, Tuolumne and Mariposa counties won't get financial aid to repair roads, water systems and other damaged infrastructure.

The Rim fire, which has burned into Yosemite National Park and threatened a vital water supply to San Francisco, was started by a hunter who let an illegal fire “escape,” the U.S. Forest Service said Thursday. The fire was not started by a marijuana growing operation, despite rumors to the contrary, the U.S. Forest Service’s investigation unit and the Tuolumne County district attorney’s office concluded. The hunter has been identified and his name is being withheld pending further investigation, officials said. The hunter has not been arrested. The Rim fire began Aug. 17 near Jawbone Ridge in the Stanislaus National...

Hypothetical situation; you have just been sent to some brutal, Stalinist, dictatorial place where you can’t bring your gun. Think Uganda, Somalia or Illinois. Upon arrival your host properly adheres to good gun owner-guest protocol and offers you your choice of one of his two guns for your bedside piece. Those guns are a Ruger 10/22 in .22 rimfire or a Walther PP in .32 ACP. Which do you choose? Now you know what a bedside piece is designed to do and that’s keep you and your patch safe against bad guys. It could be inside the home or outside...

This was a show they did a few years ago. It shows the steps taken in producing .22LR ammunition at ATK's CCI facility in Lewiston, ID. There are a few steps they don't show, if you are really interested, I highly recommend reading this book: http://tinyurl.com/4z6yxn4 Part 2 is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdNkfTS0lOQ

PLEASANT LAKE, Ind. (WANE) - George Fath moved to his mobile home in rural Steuben County two months ago. The previous owners left a lot of trash in the yard, so Fath was cleaning up Thursday afternoon. That's when he found a 22 caliber bullet in the yard. He didn't want his three young boys to get hurt from the bullet, so Fath decided to dispose of it. "My hammer was outside so I took the bullet and put it on a rock and smacked it with the hammer," Fath said. Fath wasn't expecting the bullet to fire. "It went...

Happy Holidays: Now dispose of all of your ammunition! Every last round! From now on, you will be able to buy only overpriced ammunition that will be registered to you in a government database. Not yet--at least for now. A small company, Ammunition Accountability--which wants to help anti-gunners price and regulate the Second Amendment out of existence, profit at the expense of our rights, or both--has found radical anti-gun legislators in 18 states willing to introduce bills pushing such nonsense. But few anti-gun proposals are so overtly aimed at destroying the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. As we began...
