Background In California, police don’t arrest criminals because prosecutors will just turn them loose. People and businesses are tired of the crime. The result is a campaign to roll back Soros-backed proposition 47 that made theft of less than $950 in goods a misdemeanor. Stores are at the mercy of shoplifters and many merchants have decided to close up shop. Downtown San Francisco looks like a ghost town. California Voter Revolt The proposition 47 reversal has gathered enough signatures that it will be on the ballot. However, the Progressive nut cases running the state propose an alternate measure with a...

The 5th Circuit noted that such orders can be issued without any credible evidence of a threat to others. The Biden administration is asking the Supreme Court to reverse a recent decision in which an appeals court concluded that the federal ban on gun possession by people subject to domestic-violence restraining orders violates the Second Amendment. In a petition filed this month, Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar portrays that law as a commonsensical precaution that is "consistent with the Nation's historical tradition of firearm regulation"—the constitutional test that the Court established last year in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v....

Consider Grace Krejci of West Allis, Wis., who took out a restraining order on her separated husband. Last week the deranged man broke into her house because their five-year-old son hadn’t been picked up at school. Minutes later Grace lay dead of a bullet wound. Toni Brown of Washington, DC, had an order of protection, believing that would ward off the escalating threats by her former live-in girlfriend. Then a late-night attack rendered her respirator-dependent, thanks to a close-range gunshot in the back of her neck. Abused men also have been victimized by these legal devices — like Mauricio Droguett,...

"Wood calls the current law on restraining orders 'an efficient system.' We disagree. Yes, the system is efficient in separating men from their children and their homes. However, it is hardly efficient in delivering justice."My new co-authored column, Restraining Orders Can Be Straitjackets On Justice (Newark Star-Ledger, 7/28/08), defends a recent New Jersey court ruling which raises the evidence standard needed to obtain a domestic violence restraining order. The column, co-authored with Mike McCormick, Executive Director of the American Coalition for Fathers and Children, is below. Assembly Bill 5424, recently introduced by State Assemblyman Felix Ortiz (D-Brooklyn), is a draconian measure which will victimize many innocent New York men and fathers. The bill requires “any person against whom an order of protection is issued…to wear an electronic monitoring device.” The device will allow pinpoint tracking of the wearer, and tampering with the device will be a felony. Perhaps such a drastic, Orwellian measure would be warranted if the men forced to wear the devices had had meaningful and fair trials, and were found to be violent or dangerous. With orders of protection, however, this often is...

'Oh my god! He's coming. Please help me. I am going to die. He has killed my son' By Stewart Payne (Filed: 29/09/2004) For 16 minutes a woman cowered inside a cupboard and pleaded for help in a harrowing 999 call as her estranged husband murdered their son in the driveway then made his way through the house, firing shots at random, as he hunted her down. "Oh my god! Oh my god! He is coming. Please help me. I am going to die," Julia Pemberton told the operator. Alan Pemberton killed his wife, Julian, and son, William A transcript...

October 15, 2002 U. S. House of Representatives Washington, DC 20515 To The Honorable Fortney Pete Stark: On July 14 this past Summer my wife and I, under great “stress” from being blessed with two healthy and beautiful children Nicolette, 2 1/2, and Elanor, 1 year old, as well the ever increasing challenge of making ends meet in today's California and indeed these United States... we entered into a shouting match that climaxed with her crossing the line and attacking me with several blows to the back and side of my head. I got up from my reading position and...
