NAPA, Calif. - A powerful storm sent rivers and creeks spilling over their banks and into cities and set off mudslides that blocked major highways across Northern California on Saturday. At least a dozen people had to be rescued from the rushing water, and forecasters were warning of another storm on Sunday. California officials urged residents along the Napa and Russian rivers and on hillsides to collect their valuables and get out. In the city of Napa, near the heart of wine country, the river rose 5 feet over flood stage and water surged into downtown before the water began...

Freepers, sometime early this morning, one of the bravest officers I know was shot twice in the chest and the face while on a domestic disturbance call. Reno Police Officer DelVecchio needs your prayers and thoughts right now. I am told he is currently in surgery and in very serious condition. Officer DelVecchio is an inspiration to those who know him. Without his guidance and mentoring I probably wouldn't have made it through my Academy. Not only is he one of the finest street cops you'll ever meet, he is an absolute patriot and member of the National Guard whose...

RENO, Nev. President Bush told a crowd of about 16-thousand people in Reno today that he needs their help to win re-election. Bush opened a 35-minute outdoor speech at Rancho San Rafael park by saying he was proud to be back in the "Biggest Little City in the World." He said he was pleased to be in a place where, in his words, "the cowboy hats outnumber the suits." It was a revised version of a line he used in a speech the last time he was in Reno in June, when he said he always likes being in places...

I just returned frm President Bush' visit to Reno, Nevada. Working as a volunteer for the campaign, I came away with a few thoughts to share: The crowd was incredible, with the crowd lining up well before the event staff was scheduled to appear. People wrapped around the convention center, down a main thoroughfare and back again. They say 9000 tickets were distributed, and my bet is all were used.It was great to see a diverse crowd, with an amazing number of young people, especially high school and college age adults. The best line of the day came from Secretary...

The FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and local law enforcement agencies joined to apprehend the 13 men and one woman in five Western states - Nevada, California, Utah, Idaho and Washington - as part of "Operation Over the Line." Nine of the suspects were arrested after search warrants were served Friday, and five others already were in custody as part...

SPARKS, Nev. – God has been cut from Sparks City Hall. Literally. Patriotic signs showing an American flag and the words "God Bless America" have been displayed at City Hall since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks two years ago. But City Attorney Chet Adams, concerned reference to God could be construed as a city-sanctioned endorsement of religion and invite lawsuits, ordered that the signs be altered, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported yesterday. An employee used scissors to cut the word God from the signs, which now read, "Bless America." "Who is blessing America? I don't know who is blessing America, but...

My wife and I have Identified Colfax CA, Ashland OR, Bend OR, Boise ID, Reno NV, as the possible choices. I need to know about taxes, schools, jobs, community, and other important issues.
