Another case of locally contracted malaria has been detected in Florida, bringing the national tally to eight. Health officials said the patient was diagnosed last week in Sarasota County, southwest Florida, where the other cases in the state were also detected. It brings Florida's tally to seven — with five detected last month and one in May — alongside a case in Texas revealed in June in a 21-year-old National Guardsman. They mark the first cases of domestically-transmitted malaria spotted in the US for more than two decades, in a sign the disease may be gaining a foothold here. .....

A study reveals new insights into how gastric cancer develops and suggests a preventive treatment. Eunyoung Choi, Ph.D. identified for the first time that Trop2+/CD133+/CD166+ dysplastic stem cells are a key source of clonal evolution of dysplasia to multiple types of gastric cancer. Their investigation further showed that pyrvinium, a commonly prescribed treatment for intestinal pinworms, blocked regeneration of dysplastic stem cells by controlling the CK1a signaling protein in mouse models and in human organoids. "The dysplastic stem cells that we identified are de novo stem cells first present during carcinogenic transition of pre-cancerous metaplasia to dysplasia in both mouse...

Two rheumatoid arthritis drugs show potential for lowering the risk of Parkinson's disease, new research shows. Some previous studies have found that people with rheumatoid arthritis have a lower risk of Parkinson's, and it was suggested that a class of rheumatoid arthritis drugs called disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) may play a role in that reduced risk. To learn more, researchers analyzed data from thousands of patients in Finland. The use of most DMARDs—including methotrexate, sulfasalazine, gold preparations or immunosuppressants—at least three years before Parkinson's disease diagnosis was not associated with the risk of the disease in those with rheumatoid arthritis,...

Scientists published on the National Institute of Health website reported on three-dozen clinical trials underway, testing the anti-malarial drug Hydroxychloroquine — HQC — to treat cancer. In fact, HCQ is being tested on brain tumors, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, but also diabetes and arthritis, as well as Lupus and other maladies where it was already known to be an effective treatment. It’s also been found safe enough to be used by pregnant women. And what’s even more eye-opening, never mind getting a prescription for this cheap generic drug, the active ingredient, otherwise known as Quinine, what’s in tonic water, you...

VIDEO White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany is an expert at pointing out the hypocrisy of the media. The latest victim of her Truth Barb was none other than Fredo Cuomo who slammed President Trump for using hydroxychloroquine. However, as McEnany pointed out, poor Fredo actually used a much more dangerous drug during his phony basement quarantine.

As Twitchy told you, Kayleigh McEnany took Chris Cuomo to the woodshed this afternoon over his mockery of Donald Trump professing to be taking hydroxychloroquine. McEnany pointed out that Cuomo — and his wife — had taken quinine, a “less safe version” that’s been off the market for years: Chloroquine is a derivative of quinine. A derivative that, unlike quinine, is actually regularly prescribed as a treatment for certain conditions like lupus. And there’s still more Fredo-ness where that came from. As Price also points out, Mr. and Mrs. Cuomo didn’t exactly go through ideal channels to obtain their quinine:...

Anyone remember these? They've been off market for years. My Mom cured everything from a cold to chicken pox with this stuff. We all took it. It is QUININE.. similar to the malaria drug they are testing for the Pelosi (China) Virus. Quinine is the generic form of the brand-name drug qualaquin, a medication used to treat uncomplicated P. falciparum malaria, a specific type of malaria. The United States was a mere 28 years old by the time Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, and the Corps of Discovery were working their way up the Missouri River. In 1804, the men were nearing present-day Doniphan, Kansas. They spotted a stream on the Kansas side of the river, and as Clark writes: “as this Creek has no name, and this day is the 4th of July, we name this Independence us. [U.S.] Creek.” That night, they camped at a spot which Clark called “one of the most butifull [beautiful] Plains, I ever Saw.” They would dub the area “Joe...

From commentary by Steven Mehl: Hydroxychloroquine's mechanism of action appears to be how it acts as a strong zinc ionophore (i.e. pushing extra zinc into the intracellular space) and allowing that zinc to inhibit the enzyme that the virus is using to replicate. Two other zinc ionophores that are over the counter are Quercetin (flavonol) and EGCG (found in high concentrations in "matcha" green tea) and also available as a supplement. Here is Dr. Zelenko's 'Zev' treatment regimen: Patients treated with three drug regimen: 1- hydroxychloroquine 200mg twice a day for 5 days 2- azithromycin 500mg once a day for...

Use of Chloroquine, Hydroxychloroquine, Mefloquine, Quinine, and Related Quinoline Drugs Risks Sudden and Lasting Neuropsychiatric Effects from Idiosyncratic Neurotoxicity The Quinism Foundation has warned of a risk of sudden and lasting neuropsychiatric effects from the use of antimalarial quinolines against COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, and has urged policy makers, physicians, and members of the public to be alert to such effects. “The same endosomotropic properties that likely underlie the effectiveness of quinoline antimalarial drugs such as chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine against the virus may also underlie their dangers, ” said Dr. Remington Nevin, MD, MPH, DrPH, a...

Abstract BACKGROUND: The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) first broke out in Wuhan (China) and subsequently spread worldwide. Chloroquine has been sporadically used in treating SARS-CoV-2 infection. Hydroxychloroquine shares the same mechanism of action as chloroquine, but its more tolerable safety profile makes it the preferred drug to treat malaria and autoimmune conditions. We propose that the immunomodulatory effect of hydroxychloroquine also may be useful in controlling the cytokine storm that occurs late-phase in critically ill SARS-CoV-2 infected patients. Currently, there is no evidence to support the use of hydroxychloroquine in SARS-CoV-2 infection. METHODS: The pharmacological activity of...

Drugs developed in the past to treat malaria, AIDS and other respiratory syndromes are showing promise against coronavirus. Antivirals and other medicines created for past outbreaks like malaria, AIDS, and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) are being tested and showing early signs of success in treating the new coronavirus, experts say. If the progress continues, medical experts in the United States could have a new regimen from drugs that are readily available and generally cheap to treat the most seriously infected patients and provide prophylactic protection for healthcare workers. When the Chinese first reported the pneumonia cases to the World...

Chloroquine might be getting new life as an antiviral treatment for the novel coronavirus that emerged in Wuhan, China in late 2019 and has infected some 25,000 people in more than 25 countries. For decades, the drug was a front-line treatment and prophylactic for malaria. In a three-page paper published Tuesday in Cell Research, scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s State Key Laboratory of Virology write that both chloroquine and the antiviral remdesivir were, individually, “highly effective” at inhibiting replication of the novel coronavirus in cell culture. Their drug screen evaluated five other drugs that were not effective. The...

Diagnosis 1. Symptoms “You know, I really haven’t felt good since Christmas,” the 81-year-old woman remarked, a little sadly. “Must be getting old.” A brief smile softened the features of the patient’s tired, well-lined face. Dr. Anna Rae Ong, a resident in her first year of training, tried again. “But can you remember exactly what happened that made you come to the hospital two nights ago?” Ong reviewed the chart of the patient before coming into the room, and the story she found there seemed strangely incomplete. The E.M.T.’s arrived at the patient’s Connecticut home that night to find her...

New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) has long been rumored as desperately seeking the democratic nomination for president in 2008.
