Snorting "seriously, come on," on Saturday's edition of MSNBC'S The Weekend, co-host Jonathan Capehart dismissed former FBI Director James Comey's posting of a photo of "8647" as a "pseudo controversy."Right! After all, in taking down the post, Comey claimed "I didn't realize some folks associate those numbers with violence. It never occurred to me." Of course he didn't realize it! After all, who would expect the former top federal crime fighter to be familiar with . . . criminal code? Get the rest of the story and view the video here.

Yesterday, James Comey caused quite the stir when he went on Instagram and posted a picture of a shell formation on the beach — obviously one he made — that spelled out “86 47,” which many interpreted as a threat on President Trump’s life. Since then, everyone’s been arguing over the definition of “86.” As slang goes, it has a wide variety of uses, some of which are more innocent, such as when you run out of a menu item at a restaurant you “86” it or when you get kicked out of a bar for being too drunk or...

Then-Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump railed against “so-called Christians” and “pieces of s—” evangelicals who supported Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in the 2016 Iowa caucuses, according to a forthcoming book. At the time, allies of Cruz had been making hay of Trump’s flub before an audience at Virginia’s Liberty University, a conservative evangelical college, in which he botched a question about his favorite Bible verse and replied that it came from the book of “Two Corinthians,” rather than “Second Corinthians.” “The laughter and ridicule were embarrassing enough for Trump,” Tim Alberta writes in his new book, “The Kingdom, the Power,...

Former WWE star Stan Lane has taken a second DNA test to prove he is not the father of Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert — once again squashing claims made by the Republican politician’s mother… …Lane and Boebert agreed last month to take a new DNA test, which showed that the lawmaker is not his daughter despite her mother, Shawn Roberts Bentz, insisting otherwise… …Soon after Boebert was born, her mother sought child support from Lane, who “received notice that a woman I had a short affair with was accusing me of fathering her child,” Lane said in a statement to...

Has any other couple enjoyed and/or endured as much publicity as Harry and Meghan? Remember the fairy-tale romance started with a blind date? Soon they were jet-setting around the world. This was followed by the engagement, a magnificent wedding, and a year later a bouncing baby boy, Archie. Were they living happily ever after? As in all fairy tales, there was a murky underside. The couple stated the British media had been unfair. Among other issues were family drama and a massive case of ‘I-want-my-own-way.’ They announced they were stepping down from royal duties and moving to North America to...

Contrary to recent reports, federal agents told The Chronicle on Wednesday that they did not tell the family of missing Cal Poly freshman Kristin Smart that a big break in the 23-year cold case was imminent. A spokesman for the family confirmed Wednesday that the person who advised Smart’s mother, Denise, was not an active FBI agent.

The Rijksmuseum in Holland had an idea: Let's bring the art to the people and then, hopefully, they will come to see more - at the museum.

It is truly "magic" to watch President Trump negotiate — and to read his moves and counter-moves so thorough exposed on his Twitter feed. So many teachable moments of leadership and world-shaking strategy in action. Imagine looking over Patton's shoulder during the Battle of the Bulge. I'm now reading a great book on the Donald, No Such Thing as Over-Exposure published in 2005. I've read a few of Trump's self-authored books and all of them have something special to offer. However this biography of Trump stands out as a truly must-read portrait for several reasons: The author, Robert Slater,...

Conspiracy theories are strongest when their claims and evidence are kept vague and shadowy. When they meet the cold light of day — for example, when they are put into writing in a lawsuit — their flimsy nature is revealed and elicits laughter rather than fear. This week, the Democratic Party seems to have proven this by filing a civil RICO lawsuit against President Trump’s campaign, various campaign staffers (including Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr.), WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, the Russian Federation, and specific Russian officials and operatives. The DNC has a legitimate grievance against the Russian operatives who hacked their...

George Clooney’s “Suburbicon” has a timely subplot — based both on present times and a 1957 incident — about racism in white America. That subplot, however, resounded deeply during the Venice Film Festival press conference for the film, which stars Matt Damon and Julianne Moore. “I was watching a lot of speeches on the campaign trail about building fences and scapegoating minorities and I started looking around at other times in our history when we’ve unfortunately fallen back into these things,” said Clooney, talking about how the pic germinated. While casting around for story ideas, Clooney found a 1957 incident...

Here is a quick sampling of popular site (two political, one entertainment) headlines from tonight:These aren't all of the ones in my feed tonight, three is enough to give you the idea of the theme. Bear in mind that this is all more than 24 hours after his comment.Depending on which non-Trump ideological and emotional ground you've staked out this primary season, these Trump media episodes are either interminably frustrating, extraordinarily pathetic, or exceedingly amusing. I embrace both of the latter two choices as I always find the modern-day media pathetic and am quite amused by the way Trump...

Normally if I heard about Quentin Tarantino being on the streets of New York City and there were discussions of cops and shootings and violence I would simply assume he was working on his next film. This week, however, he was out there under just such conditions but the cameras belonged to the local news media and the script was written by the Black Lives Matter movement. Tarantino himself wasn’t being shy in the least and readily adopted the rhetoric of the worst aspects of these protesters, railing on about “murdering cops†as he promoted yet another hashtag… #RiseUpOctober (Yahoo...

Many Republicans have tried and failed to win the presidential nomination without support from the party establishment. Donald Trump argues he is different from those hopefuls because his wealth enables him to fund an insurgent campaign all by himself. But for all the talk about his money, so far, Trump isn’t using it. Trump campaign officials say he has only spent about $2 million – far less than fellow GOP candidates Dr. Ben Carson and Sen. Ted Cruz, for instance. each spent $5.5 million just through July, according to the latest FEC reports. Hillary Clinton’s campaign, meanwhile, spent $18 million...

A controversial story in which an anonymous pregnant grad student set up a website asking pro-life supporters for $1 million or she would abort her baby has turned out to be a publicity stunt to promote a book. The website, called ProLifeAntiWoman.com, posted a story two weeks ago attributed to a 26-year-old pregnant woman who supposedly gave the "157 million Americans that identify as pro-life" the chance to save her unborn baby from being killed if they could collectively donate $1 million in three days starting from July 7 to July 10. "On July 7 I will start accepting donations...

Oprah Winfrey has said racism is still a problem around the world and the only way for it to end is for generations of racists to die out. In an interview with the BBC to coincide with the release of her latest film The Butler, the chat show host said generations had been ´marinated´ in racism. The 59-year-old added that President Obama was treated with disrespect because of the color of his skin and said she feels fortunate to have been born after segregation ended in the U.S. [Snip] She highlighted an incident in 2009 when Republican congressman Joe Wilson

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), the political face of the recent government shutdown, will make his first late night TV appearance on Nov. 8 when he guests on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Cruz’s appearance reflects the increasingly common trend of political figures, no matter how controversial, venturing into late night, often in hopes of softening their image or reaching audiences normally not tuned in to politics.

The first lady has come under criticism for her recent media blitz, with some lambasting her for her unprecedented number of appearances on entertainment and programs. Michelle Obama has certainly made the rounds in the past week, from promoting an anti-obesity campaign with late night host Jimmy Fallon to her surprise Oscars appearance announcing the Best Picture winner. Critics complain that Mrs Obama is overstepping her reach and risks losing favor with the public for being overexposed.
