2014 is upon us, and what a year it’s shaping up to be. We can now see that 2013 was a transition year, a time of evolution but not revolution. Many of the threads first unspooled last year, though, will run out in 2014, leaving us in the position of predicting their effects. Here are ten specific, falsifiable predictions for 2014 — some safer than others. These are designed to look at a wide swathe of the technology sector, from consumer electronics to government surveillance. Some of these predictions will be wrong, but come 2015 we’ll begin this list’s sequel...

To kick off 2014, Kathleen Sebelius is reportedly papering the country with op-eds about the wonders of the “Affordable” Care Act. But her PR campaign aside, things will continue to deteriorate for Obamacare in 2014. Here are ten ways it’ll happen: 1. Many won’t pay: A sizeable share of the 2 million people who selected a private insurance plan before the 2013 deadline will not pay their share of the premiums and therefore won’t be covered by the plans in which the White House says they “enrolled.” Enrolling, by the White House definition, is actually just selecting a plan —...

Predictions for 2014 point to a very good year for Republicans, who have a chance to put behind the losses of 2012 with a good shot at winning the Senate and a surprise presidential candidate waiting in the wings. The past year was something of a rebound for the GOP. After raising hopes of holding off Obama from being re-elected — and an entire election season painting him as incapable — Republicans were stunned by his seemingly easy re-election over Mitt Romney in 2012. Beaten but not defeated, Republicans spent 2013 quietly building up the next generation of leaders, including...

Karl Rove, the voice of the Republican donor class, is predicting that tea party-backed primary candidates will lose nearly all their primary fights against business-backed GOP politicians during 2014. “Every Republican senator and virtually every representative challenged in a primary as insufficiently conservative will win,” Rove wrote in a Dec. 26 blog post, an excerpt of which appeared in The Wall Street Journal. The op-ed listed his predictions about American politics in 2014. Rove’s business vs. tea party prediction is somewhat self-serving — he’s positioned himself as a leader of the GOP-affiliated donors and businesses who are facing criticism from...

It's time to see how well I did with my predictions for 2013 and to offer a set of 2014 forecasts.

I got 10 predictions for this year right. President Obama's job approval rating did drop—from 53% at year's start to 40% this week. There was a new administration scandal, the most significant being the IRS targeting of conservative groups. And ObamaCare's implementation was indeed "ragged and ugly" and "a continuing political advantage to Republicans" as forecast.

Political predictions are tricky, but if you just assume that Democrats will expand government and their own power at the expense of yours, you’re already batting .800. Here are some prognostications for 2014: The Obama Administration: The President’s ratings will generally plummet, with the mainstream media hailing every minor uptick as a comeback. Look for panic as the unfolding Obamacare catastrophe teaches the Millennials what they should have learned in college – that all socialist enterprises are doomed to failure. The Administration will rule by executive fiat and pack the courts. It’ll also establish a precedent that will allow a...

Dateline: January, 2014 - Hollywood and Washington are wowed when president Obama announces that his strong performance at the Mandela funeral has landed him a part in Wedding Crashers II, a non-stop comedy romp starring Obama, Will Ferrell and Jack Lew. In the sequel to the original, the three funny men crash the funerals of heads of state in order to pick up powerful Nordic women. Its release is scheduled just prior to the 2014 midterms. The stock market finishes the month at 20,502 on the Dow on optimism that quantitative easing won’t end until late 2015. Dateline: February, 2014...
