Rep. Adam Schiff is pushing for a U.S. Postal Service stamp aimed at honoring Leonard Nimoy, praising the “Star Trek” star as an “example of the American dream.” “Live long and prosper!” the California Democrat wrote in a Monday letter to the Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee and obtained by ITK. “This is a phrase that is part of our lexicon, as is the unforgettable character who first proclaimed those words,” Schiff said. “I am writing to support the creation of a stamp for Leonard Nimoy, an extraordinary activist, actor, and dear friend,” the California Senate candidate said. The advisory committee,...

Benjamin Franklin famously quipped, “In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” Franklin evidently failed to envisage today’s postmodern left. For the conservative, there exists at least one other certainty, and it is this: The degree to which “progressives” attack you corresponds precisely to the degree with which you challenge any among their assorted, distorted and sordid sacred cows. What would you call a 33-year-old man who both had and axiomatically acted upon a deviant sexual appetite for underage, drug-addicted, runaway boys? (No, not Jerry Sandusky.) What would you call a man of whom,...

Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Russia, and former head of the KGB, rules as de facto czar of enormous empire that spans 11 time zones. A confirmed and dedicated Communist, Putin has decided that Russia should publicly honor another fellow socialist on his 50th birthday. From "The Voice of Russia" English language website we read: Russia's Post Office has issued a collection of stamps and envelopes to mark the 50th jubilee of the US President Barack Obama. The US leader is celebrating his birthday on the 4th of August. In one of his recent interviews Mr. Obama said that fifty...

Mother TeresaWith this stamp, the U.S. Postal Service recognizes Mother Teresa, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work. Noted for her compassion toward the poor and suffering, Mother Teresa, a diminutive Roman Catholic nun and honorary U.S. citizen, served the sick and destitute of India and the world for nearly 50 years. Her humility and compassion, as well as her respect for the innate worth and dignity of humankind, inspired people of all ages and backgrounds to work on behalf of the world’s poorest populations.Mother Teresa, an ethnic Albanian, was born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu on...

Link to the image since the port office pulled it from their website. Remember, the president had to approve this.

WASHINGTON -- It was a simple plaque, the sort handed out every day on Capitol Hill by interest groups showing their appreciation for a legislator's efforts on behalf of their cause. In this case, it was the Military Order of the Purple Heart organization that presented an award to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., last Thursday. The nonprofit group honored Clinton for her stewardship of measures calling for a commemorative Purple Heart postage stamp and the establishment of Aug. 7 as Purple Heart Recognition Day, as well as her advocacy for veterans' health care. But a story on the conservative...

A stamp honoring former President Ronald Reagan will be issued next February, Postmaster General Jack Potter announced yesterday at the Board of Governors meeting in Washington. Potter said that while it is USPS tradition to honor prominent Americans with a stamp a minimum of 10 years after their deaths, the one exception is when a president dies. Then the stamp is issued on the first birth date following the president’s death. For Reagan that will be Feb. 6, 2005.

What is good for the U.S. Mint is evidently not acceptable to the U.S. Postal Service. A post office in Montgomery north of Houston recently learned that it had to remove a framed poster of the national motto "In God We Trust" because it violates postal regulations. The donated 16-by-20-inch poster, which is matted and secured in a gold frame, displays "In God We Trust" in large white letters over the American flag colors. It states at the bottom that the "national motto was approved by Congress and President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956." Retired chemical engineer Frank P. Williamson...
