Andrew Lloyd Webber, known for his musical "The Phantom of the Opera," has opened up about his encounter with a “mischievous spirit” at his Eaton Square residence in London — and how he sought a priest's help to remove the entity. In an interview with The Telegraph, the award-winning composer revealed that while he has never seen a ghost, his former 19th century home in Eaton Square was occupied by a poltergeist that would “do things like take theatre scripts and put them in a neat pile in some obscure room.”“In the end we had to get a priest to come...

The Landlady's Tale By SWORDMAKER copyright 2000Preface The following story was told to me by the woman who rented my parents their first home in California when they moved to Sacramento in 1939. A devout Catholic (so much so that although she had been divorced by her husband, she did not consider the divorce valid and did not remarry until her husband died many years later) the landlady swore on her Bible, in front of my sister and me after she told us the story, that it was absolutely true. She was quite serious about it.In the 1970s, I personally...

James Karen, the instantly recognizable character actor who moved the cemetery’s headstones — but not the bodies — as the developer Mr. Teague in the modern horror classic Poltergeist, has died. He was 94. The incredibly prolific Karen, who also was noteworthy in such films as The China Syndrome (1979) and The Return of the Living Dead (1985) and on the finale of NBC’s Little House on the Prairie — he’s the dastardly reason the town of Walnut Grove was blown up — died Tuesday at his Los Angeles home, his wife, Alba, said.

ITHACA, N.Y. — Kurt A. Jordan, associate professor in Cornell University’s department of anthropology and Native American studies, has found evidence through his research that suggests several parts of Ithaca lies above ancient burial grounds of Haudenosaunee Indians. Jordan said his finding are based on a “paper trail” of books and documents, some dating centuries ago, because he didn’t have the permission to excavate in Ithaca.

"This sword is from the 1700s. I got it at an antique store in my memaw's home town back in 1984. The person who sold it to me told me to be careful because there is a 90+% chance that it is cursed. Since it's been in my house my life has descended into pure chaos. My knitting group came over and they all said they could feel a strange energy in my sword room (I have a collection of over 100 swords. This is my only haunted sword). Since i got this sword, about 3 times a week a...

Farr has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars turning a 141-year-old saloon into a restaurant, so he's understandably reluctant to jeopardize his investment by sounding like a crackpot. True ghost tales By Emily Quirk equirk@seacoastonline.com RAYMOND - Tim Louis never believed in ghosts before he bought the old Bean Tavern on Fremont Road more than 20 years ago. Now he says he’s a believer. In 1982, after his father-in-law died, Louis and his wife, Peg, were searching for his father-in-law’s will. Louis had just come home from work the day after Christmas with The Boston Globe and placed the newspaper on the kitchen table. He went upstairs looking for Peg and she was frantically looking for her father’s will, which Louis said must have been filed away in...

Family wishes ghostly noises would just go away Occupants believe their West Inverness house is spooked by Joseph M. Giordano When members of the Meyers family saw a figure in the window of the Jasmine Road house they wanted to buy, they should have known something was up. But they didn't, and now they may be living with something paranormal. "His name is Dexter," said 8-year-old Ozzie Meyers V. "And he kept asking me to read to him." Ozzie's parents, Jennifer, an apparently down-to-Earth woman who works for Johns Hopkins University, and Ozzie IV, a stay-at-home dad, thought it might...

WEST PALM BEACH -- Palm Beach County soon could bid adieu to some of the finer indulgences of South Florida lifestyle: walking the dog on the beach, tossing back a brew at 4 a.m. and letting it all hang out. All in the same half-hour, county commissioners suddenly went on the offensive against dogs on the beach, late-night bar hoppers and people who seem to want to show off their underwear. There oughta be a law, they said. And they ordered staff to study how that could best be done. It was a day for pet peeves, and the commissioners...
