A Romanian national pleaded guilty on Monday to charges related to his role in a “swatting” ring that targeted dozens of public officials, including a former US president. Going by the aliases “Plank,” “Jonah” and “Cypher,” 26-year-old Thomasz Szabo took part in a years-long conspiracy to place bogus 911 calls, claiming emergencies were taking place at the homes of top government officials, and make bomb threats against government buildings and houses of worship, according to Justice Department. Szabo and a co-conspirator, 21-year-old Serbian national Nemanja Radovanovic, allegedly targeted about 100 people, including members of Congress, governors, cabinet-level executive branch officials...

Yesterday, I [Turley] was notified by the Justice Department confirming that a recent swatting indictment includes the person or persons responsible for my own swatting a year ago. One of the defendants, Thomasz Szabo, was arrested a couple weeks ago. The indictment below charges two foreign nationals: Thomasz Szabo, 26, of Romania, and Nemanja Radovanovic, 21, of Serbia. Szabo and Radovanovic are each charged with one count of conspiracy, 29 counts of threats and false information regarding explosives, and four counts of transmitting threats in interstate and foreign commerce. Their alleged conspiracy began as early as December 2020. It continued...

“We proved that the Einstein field equation from general relativity is actually a relativistic quantum mechanical equation,” the researchers note in their study. In simple words, this new framework connects the science that governs the macroscopic world with that of the microscopic world. Therefore, it has the potential to explain every physical phenomenon known to humanity ranging from the mysterious dark matter in space to the photons emitted by your phone’s flashlight. “To date, no globally accepted theory has been proposed to explain all physical observations,” the researchers added. They claim that their theory can challenge the foundations of physics...

the relationship between MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle and Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank, alleging the two are having an affair. ... MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle’s relationship with Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank raised eyebrows when a Wall Street Journal report Thursday detailed the cable news host’s alleged affair -- including everything from allegedly using NBC News to run damage control for Under Armour to offering advice on dealing with President Trump. The report by Khadeeja Safdar headlined, “Meet Under Armour CEO’s Unusual Adviser: An MSNBC Anchor,” details Ruhle’s relationship with the workout gear honcho that includes flying on his private...

The clash includes issues of the environment, immigration, and gay rights As a senator, John McCain holds a reputation for diverging from many of his Republican colleagues on core party issues. Now, as the party’s presidential candidate, his record and policy views are putting him at odds with the overarching party platform adopted this week. On major issues like the environment, immigration, stem cell research and gay rights, the platform, which expresses the party’s philosophy, clashes with Mr. McCain’s longstanding positions or does not go as far as he has proposed in addressing subjects such as climate change. It is...

Rep. Kevin McCarthy, 43, a prolife freshman Republican from California, will chair the platform committee for the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn., The Washington Times has learned today. Steven J. Duffield, former aide to conservative Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona, will be the committee's executive director. In his first year in Congress, Mr. McCarthy had a 100 percent prolife voting record, according to the National Right to Life committee. Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has let it been known through associates that he will not work to "soften" — even behind the scenes — the...

Magnetic Stars The puzzle of `magnetic stars' solved by astrophysicists of the Max Planck Society How does one explain the enormous magnetic field strengths of the so-called `magnetic stars'? This question concerning magnetic fields in the cosmos, first posed half a century ago, has now been answered by scientists of the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Garching. With 3-dimensional numerical simulations they have found the magnetic field configurations that underly the strong magnetic fields observed on the surface of the so-called magnetic A-stars and magnetic White Dwarfs, and how these fields can survive for the life time of these...

Republicans will try to project a moderate image at their national convention next week through prime-time speakers such as California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (news - web sites) and former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani. But the platform on which GOP candidates will run this fall is shaping up to look decidedly conservative, reflecting the views of President Bush (news - web sites) and the party's base. Efforts to insert more moderate language on controversial issues such as abortion and same-sex marriage into the 95-page statement of party principles begin Wednesday when the Republican Platform Committee opens two days of hearings...

This was my fifth state convention, and the worst that I ever attended! The creeping tendency to "handle" the delegates I noted at the 2002 convention has become full fledged control from the top, the only question remaining is just how high, national or state, this effort originates. Once again the platform was very limited, only 28 planks. I think this is a deliberate effort to keep the deep conservatives in the party from proposing any planks that might make GW or the RINO's unhappy in any way. Despite this manipulation we did get a few very good planks adopted....

I am off to the Nevada State Republican Convention as a delegate. I will try to get on the platform committee again if I can. I have attended several previous conventions, it will be interesting to see how this one goes as I have noticed a disturbing tendency of our conventions becoming more "Top-Down" and less "Grass-Roots" oriented. As always I will be far more interested in the Platform and the process followed to craft it than the varied congratulatory dinners, awards, and "Centrist" speeches. Will anyone else from this board be there? I will post a short report here...
