The exposed nightmare in Ukraine-controlled Severodonetsk shocked the inhabitants of Donbass. The fears of people aren't unfounded: the facts emerging on the surface about the events in UAF-controlled territory is only a small fragment of the criminal canvas that is the present Ukrainian reality. As was reported, the Kiev Armed Forces, together with the Ukrainian authorities of Severodonetsk, organized a children's brothel in the city's boarding school. The so-called administration of the Severodonetsk general education boarding school for orphaned children forces minor pupils on both genders to perform sexual acts with customer-pedophiles from among the military personnel, militants of national battalions,...

PETA is calling for the University of Georgia to be “a winner not only in football but also in its treatment of” animals. In the wake of its second straight National Championship, the animal rights organization wants the school to immediately halt its use of its live mascot, an English bulldog named Uga. The group claims that the school’s use of Uga “drives demand for breathing-impaired breeds (BIBs),” like pugs, boxers, and English and French bulldogs. “As the back-to-back national champion, can’t UGA find it in its heart to honestly examine the impact of its promotion of deformed dogs and...

The myth of America as the greatest nation on earth is at best outdated and at worst, wildly inaccurate. If you look at data, the U.S. is really just O.K.

Wednesday on Fox News Channel’s “The Daily Briefing,” Sen Marco Rubio (R-FL) said the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was “still a good idea,” but it has to be “modernized.” When asked about President Donald Trump’s criticism of the alliance, Rubio said, “First of all, NATO is still a good idea. It has to be modernized, so it has a new purpose and a new meaning in the 21st century. I continue to believe and support NATO.”

NOTE: I wrote the following immediately after Melania Trump's speech last night but pulled it from publication when I learned of the allegations of plagiarism by her (and/or her writer) from passages in Michelle Obama's 2008 speech. As a professional writer for decades, plagiarism does not sit well with me to say the least, even though I realize many -- including Joe Biden (more than once) and Obama himself -- have done it. This was a bush league play and does not speak well of the vetting process within the Trump campaign. Something's seriously amiss that should be investigated thoroughly....

According to London’s Sunday Telegraph, the president’s decision to not welcome British Prime Minister Gordon Brown last March with the customary press conference and State Dinner was not a result of a deliberate slight, rather POTUS was tired. The president was open in explaining his pooped-out appearance. "You have a convergence of factors that have made this a difficult year not so much for me but for the American people…Absolutely that weighs on me," the fatigued commander-in-collapse sighed. And according to London’s Sunday Telegraph, the president’s decision to not welcome British Prime Minister Gordon Brown last March with the customary press conference...

This may, in fact, be a stupid question. What's the easiest way to delete a whole hard drive of files with Windows 98. And is there a way to do it without wiping out Windows 98 itself. I'm afraid I don't know the specifics. My mom's neighbor wants to get rid of her old machine, but she doesn't want the new people to have any of her old files. What's the quickest and easiest way to do that? Thanks Freepers!

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Dalai Lama told 36,000 people at Rutgers Stadium that the concept of war was outdated and young people have a responsibility to make this century one of peace. "This whole planet is just us," the 70-year-old exiled monk said Sunday. "Therefore, destruction of another area essentially is destruction of yourself." Tibet's spiritual leader also urged the audience to develop a wider world perspective, not just focus on "America, America, America." "His quiet mind is the kind of serenity New Jersey, home of strip malls, could use," Arielle Gomberg said. The speech was the largest nonathletic event...

The growing controversy over the Bush administration’s attempts to alter the perceived liberal bias in PBS programming has led one media insider to urge: Consider pulling the plug on the network. In his Media Matters column in the Los Angeles Times, David Shaw asks, "Do we really want or need PBS anymore?" Shaw points out that when PBS’s parent, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, was created in 1967, television was largely dominated by three commercial networks, while today we live in a "500-channel universe." "But politics, not the availability of more alternatives, is the primary reason to question the continued...

The year is 2014. The press as we know it no longer exists. Traditional reporting has collapsed. News is churned out by the media giant Googlezon (Google has taken over many companies and joined forces with Amazon). The news consists of blogs, attitudes, discoveries, preferences, claims and random thoughts, gathered and shaped by computers and human editors, and fed back to ordinary people. The New York Times has become a newsletter read only by the elite and the elderly. This is the finding of a clever eight-minute mock documentary, "Epic 2014," produced by the fictional Museum of Media History (in...

THE Austrian army - fed up with enemy troops being able to listen in on its radio communications - has decided to reactivate its corps of carrier pigeons. Years after armies across the world sent their faithful pigeon brigades into a well-deserved retirement, the Austrians have decided a more traditional way of getting messages back from the frontline has a place in modern warfare. They are expected to be used when satellite communications go down, computer links are broken or the enemy is thought to be intercepting radio conversations. "Pigeons never stop working when there’s a power cut, can’t be...

* COMMENT: Unpatriotic Underwear. Dear A-Letter Reader: Odds are you've never heard of alternative girl punk band 'L-7.' Their 1997 album 'The Beauty Process: Triple Platinum' contains a song that I nominate for the attitude anthem of the current US Congress: "The Masses Are Asses." That sums up the congressional view of you and me; that we're ignorant rubes likely to fall for their posturing that passes for lawmaking. My problem is that I've been there, so I know how Capitol Hill pols think and operate, especially in an election year marked by scandal and economic uncertainty. I smell the...
