In interviews with NBC News, many federal workers shared stories of overwhelming stress, personal crises, rapid weight loss, panic attacks and more. ...NBC News spoke with 20 federal employees across agencies. Spanning the country, these workers lost their jobs, watched co-workers lose them or endured what amounted to a Goliath joyously stomping on David. In interviews, federal workers — many of whom are veterans — told of overwhelming stress, personal crises, suicidal ideation, rapid weight loss, prolonged lack of sleep, panic attacks and visiting the emergency room after a mental breakdown. They’re facing bombardment from every angle, some showing screenshots...

They're scientists. Veterans. Park rangers. Lawyers. Researchers. Administrative staff. They work on fire safety. Safe drinking water. Veterans' health. Combating bird flu. They're from all over the country, in red states and blue. They're young and old. Thousands of federal workers have been fired in the last month. They're victims of efforts by President Donald Trump and his senior adviser, billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk, to cut the size of the government. And they want people to understand what they did and why they loved being public servants. Anna Conn, 35, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Asheville, N.C.:...

A foreign service worker whose pregnant wife allegedly was denied emergency medical transport while stationed abroad has filed an affidavit in federal court against the Trump administration, claiming its “rushed, haphazard and cruel” push to shut down the U.S. Agency for International Development has placed the mother and unborn daughter at grave risk. The worker, who identified themselves only as "Terry Doe" in a filing that's part of a larger case in federal court in Washington, D.C., charges that the U.S. government twice denied previously approved medical transport orders for the mother, who is 31-weeks pregnant. “Each day has brought...
  • 'The floodgates will open': Democratic donors energized by Kamala Harris' run

The Democratic money machine is back in business. Hours after President Joe Biden made the extraordinary decision to step aside in the presidential campaign and back Vice President Kamala Harris instead, large and small donors began digging back into their pockets. ActBlue, the leading Democratic online donation processor, reported that donors gave $46.7 million in small-dollar donations through the platform for the day by 9 p.m. Eastern. It was already ActBlue's biggest day of 2024 with hours left to go. But that isn't all. Much more is expected to flow in and is already being pledged by large-dollar donors, too....

President Joe Biden’s campaign has already suffered a major slowdown in donations and officials are bracing for a seismic fundraising hit, with the fallout from a debate nearly two weeks ago taking a sizable toll on operations, according to four sources close to the re-election effort. “It’s already disastrous,” one of the sources close to Biden’s re-election said of fundraising. "The money has absolutely shut off" to the Biden campaign, another source close to Biden's re-election said. Two of the sources said this month is on a path to be down by possibly half — “or much more,” one of...
  • Biden campaign on Trump verdict: 'No one is above the law'

President Joe Biden’s campaign declared “no one is above the law” just minutes after former President Donald Trump was convicted Thursday in a New York courtroom. “Donald Trump has always mistakenly believed he would never face consequences for breaking the law for his own personal gain,” Biden campaign spokesman Michael Tyler said in a statement. “But today’s verdict does not change the fact that the American people face a simple reality.” The president is not expected to hold a separate news availability to address the verdict, according to a person with knowledge of his plans
  • Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot is in danger of an early re-election knockout

CHICAGO — Mayor Lori Lightfoot is the first to admit her bid for re-election will be far from smooth. “There’s nine people on the ballot,” Lightfoot said in an interview with NBC News. “It’s impossible not to have a runoff.” What’s appearing increasingly possible, however, is that Lightfoot will fail to make it even that far. In Chicago’s municipal election, if a candidate fails to win a majority, then the top two vote-getters face off against each other in a second round of voting in April. But with less than two weeks to the Feb. 28 election, the firecracker Democratic...
  • Gov. Chris Sununu takes a major step toward running for president

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu has taken his most significant step yet in exploring a White House bid, launching a national political organization that’s a popular tool for prospective presidential candidates testing the waters. The governor first confirmed to NBC News on Wednesday that he had formed the "Live Free or Die" committee (borrowed from his state’s nickname), a 501(c)(4) organization where politicians can raise unlimited funds. The donations don't have to be disclosed, and prospective candidates often use these political nonprofits as a way to gauge interest from donors.
  • Democratic candidates are hesitant to campaign with Biden despite recent win streak

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden’s recent political revitalization hasn’t stopped some Democrats in competitive midterm races from treating him like an in-law: always welcome but seldom wanted. Democratic candidates are tiptoeing around his official visits, making case-by-case decisions about whether to appear with him. They're also speaking out against him on certain issues. One campaign outright said it wasn't interested in a Biden visit, while a veteran House Democrat told voters she is “fighting back” against the president. Democrats are walking a tightrope in characterizing their ties to Biden, which might seem counterintuitive considering the streak of legislative victories that...
  • Twitter bans over 100 accounts that pushed #IStandWithPutin

Twitter has banned more than 100 accounts that pushed the pro-Russian hashtag #IStandWithPutin for participating in “coordinated inauthentic behavior,” days after the hashtag trended on Twitter amid the invasion in Ukraine. A Twitter spokesperson said on Friday that it is still investigating the origins and links between the accounts, and that it banned the accounts for violating its “platform manipulation and spam policy." The accounts with the most retweets about the hashtag on Wednesday only had a few dozen followers and used stock photos as profile pictures, which led disinformation researchers to question how the tweets went viral. It’s an...
  • 'For Christ’s sake, watch yourself': Biden warns family over business dealings

Still, one brother discussed new venture with major donor before Biden entered the White House. In the midst of his campaign for president, Joe Biden took his younger brother, Frank, aside to issue a warning. “For Christ’s sake, watch yourself,” Biden said of his brother’s potential business dealings, according to a person with knowledge of the conversation. “Don’t get sucked into something that would, first of all, hurt you.” Biden, whose tone was both “jocular and serious,” according to the person, seemed to know then what is becoming plainly obvious now: His family’s business ties threatened to undermine an administration...
  • Politico Relays Excuses for Joe Biden's Small Crowd Sizes

Joe Biden is a BILLION points ahead of Bernie Sanders in the polls! Okay, that is a bit of exaggeration but it somewhat reflects the Biden hype the mainstream media has been reporting recently about the 2020 campaign. However, the big question is if Biden is so far above his primary opponents in the polls then why is the turnout of his campaign crowds so small? That is the question that Marc Caputo and Natasha Korecki of Politico tried to answer on Tuesday primarily by relaying lame excuses provided by Team Biden:

Cook County Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown's husband has been hit with a federal subpoena asking him to appear before a grand jury as part of an investigation into a state anti-violence program. It is the second, ongoing probe into Cook that is also looking into how monies were dispensed from the $54 million anti-violence program. Cook was paid more than $154,000.00 in salary and benefits from the grant funds.
