Two Brussels police officers have been stabbed in the notorious Belgium suburb of Molenbeek. The suspect has been arrested while police claim no serious injuries to either officer. Two police on routine foot patrol in Molenbeek were attacked Wednesday afternoon by an unknown assailant. The suspect, a male, is said to have attacked the officers with a knife before fleeing. The man was apprehended by another group of police who were close to the scene. Authorities have so far not released any information as to the motive of the attacker or his identity, but mentioned that the officers did not...

Teachers working in the predominantly Muslim districts of Molenbeek and Schaerbeek in Brussels have reported that “90 percent of their students, 17, 18 years old” called the Islamist terrorists who attacked Paris and Brussels “heroes”. The revelation came in an article in the New York Times, wherein Steven Erlanger spoke to a Belgian policymaker who relayed the information from Belgium.

BRUSSELS — Yves Goldstein makes no excuses for Belgium’s failure to find Salah Abdeslam and the other Islamic State recruits who attacked Paris and then bombed Brussels Airport and a subway station. The problem is not Islam, he insists, but the negligence of government officials like himself in allowing self-contained ethnic ghettos to grow unchallenged, breeding anger, crime and radicalism among youth — a soup of grievances that suits Islamist recruiters. “Our cities are facing a huge problem, maybe the largest since World War II,” Mr. Goldstein said. “How is it that people who were born here in Brussels, in...

With the city of Brussels still on edge after last week’s terror attacks, authorities have banned far-right extremists from holding a planned anti-Islam rally in the troubled neighborhood of Molenbeek. The French far-right youth group Generation Identitaire had posted a message on their website invoking members to march through the neighborhood Saturday under the banner “Let’s expel the Islamists!” Molenbeek, an impoverished and largely Muslim neighborhood in the Belgian capital has long been viewed as a hotbed of Islamist extremism. Earlier this month, Salah Abdeslam, the prime suspect in November’s Paris terror attacks, was arrested in the neighborhood near his...

Perhaps it’s not a body blow to ISIS itself, but the capture of Salah Abdeslam might do a great deal of damage to its operations in Europe. One question from his capture certainly remains unanswered at the moment — why was the mastermind of the Paris attacks still in Europe at all? And why did he stick around Molenbeek, which Belgian and other Western counterterrorism operatives kept under scrutiny? Salah Abdeslam, the top suspect in last year’s deadly Paris attacks, was discharged Saturday from a Brussels hospital along with a suspected accomplice and will now face official questioning and a...

Salah Abdeslam, the main fugitive from Islamic extremist attacks in Paris in November, was arrested in Belgium's capital Friday after four months at large, two French police officials told The Associated Press. They said he was arrested in a major police operation in the Brussels neighborhood of Molenbeek. Both officials are in contact with people involved in the operation and spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about an ongoing operation. Theo Francken, Belgium's secretary of state for asylum and migration, tweeted, "We hebben hem," which translates to English, "We got him." Francken later...

We are importing Islamic extremism, Arab anti-Semitism, national and ethnic conflicts of other peoples, as well as a different understanding of society and law. - From a leaked German intelligence document. The mayor of Molenbeek, Belgium ignored a list she received, one month prior to the Paris attacks, "with the names and addresses of more than 80 people suspected as Islamic militants living in her area," according to the New York Times. "What was I supposed to do about them? It is not my job to track possible terrorists," Mayor Schepmans said. In October 2015, Andrew Parker, director general of...
