The cofounders of the popular Ben and Jerry’s ice cream company were arrested Monday afternoon as part of a sit-in on the steps of the U.S. Capitol protesting big money in politics. Jerry Greenfield, 66, and Ben Cohen, 65, were arrested with about 300 others for “unlawful demonstration activities,” according to a statement from U.S. Capitol Police Monday. All demonstrators were processed and released the same day.

The former Miss New Jersey who was critically injured in a crash Monday night was not wearing her seat belt when her vehicle slid off an icy road, state police said. Cara McCollum, 24, of Margate, was headed northbound on state Route 55 at the time of the crash around 6:53 p.m. McCollum was driving a 2014 Ford Mustang convertible at milepost 38.4 when she ran off of the right side of the road and struck several trees, police said. The driver's side front airbag in her car deployed in the crash.

Excerpt - Miss New Jersey has received a second threatening package from someone trying to blackmail her into relinquishing her crown, her attorney says. Anthony Caruso, an attorney for Amy Polumbo, said that he was notified about the package Saturday and that it contained a threatening letter and possibly new photographs of the 22-year-old woman. The reigning Miss New Jersey claims someone is using photographs she posted on the Internet to try to force her to give up her crown. Amy Polumbo and her attorney held a news conference at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park this afternoon to denounce the blackmail attempt. The 22-year-old Howell woman said she received copies of between six and 12 of her photos in the mail on June 25 with a letter threatening to make them public unless she gives up her crown to the pageant's first runner-up. ~ snip ~
