There are critical points about the 70th Emmy Awards to keep in mind, starting with this: The ceremony airs Monday. Typically held on a Sunday, it was punted one day so this year’s host network, NBC, could accommodate its “Sunday Night Football” franchise (New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys, for viewers inclined toward that spectacle). As for what the 8-11 p.m. EDT awards telecast will offer, the basics are 26 categories with nominees including defending drama champ “The Handmaid’s Tale.” It’s challenged by 2016 winner “Game of Thrones,” which aired outside the eligibility window for last year’s awards and wants...

C'mon, all you creative Freeper wordsmiths. Time for collaborative songwriting. There's a song just BEGGING to be written here. Add a few more rhyming lines, decide on the refrain, and then someone pick an existing tune that goes with it. Highlight Hillary's and SNL's silence, and their NY connection to Weinstein.

We talked yesterday about anti-gun David Michaels, Obama's pick to head the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. And we saw that a "public health" excuse for infringing on the right to keep and bear arms has been used in the past. Continuing from "Second Opinion: Measuring the Violence": A pilot project at CDC in the 1990s to monitor firearm fatalities drew ire from gun advocates and was stopped after three years. Now all money appropriated to CDC to study injuries comes with a stipulation from Congress that the funds cannot be used to advocate for gun control. Why was that?...

The controversial OSHA nominee and left-leaning public health advocate also seems to have strong views on firearms issues. That’s by no means irrelevant to the agenda of an agency like OSHA, because once you start viewing private gun ownership as a public health menace, it begins to seem logical to use the powers of government to urge or even require employers to forbid workers from possessing guns on company premises, up to and including parking lots, ostensibly for the protection of co-workers. In addition, OSHA has authority to regulate the working conditions of various job categories associated with firearms use...

Prof. Patrick Michaels steps down from position after controversy about global warming policies After years of receiving heat for his controversial theories about global warming, University Environmental Science Prof. Patrick Michaels has officially resigned as the Virginia state climatologist, a position to which he was appointed in 1980.
